Chapter 54
The moment she opened the door and saw who was standing outside, her face changed dramatically.
"William, why is it you?"
William strode inside. "Who else would it be?"
Sarah said nothing. William could tell she was nervous.
She pulled her robe tighter, covering the red marks on her chest—left by that lunatic last night. She was afraid William would misunderstand.
William had already noticed these little movements.
"You won't be seeing that man anymore."
Sarah suddenly felt her scalp tingle. "What man?"
She wasn't sure what William knew. She'd always been careful, usually only calling that man over late at night or early in the morning. Had she been discovered?
William didn't answer her question. He walked straight to the door and registered his fingerprint on the lock, changing the password back to the original one.
"Don't change the password again!"
It was almost an order.
Sarah was too scared to speak.
"William, I..."
William glanced at her. "From now on, call me Mr. Morgan."
Sarah's heart suddenly contracted. Did this mean he was drawing a line between them? She didn't know which man had made him angry.
"William, what did I do wrong? Tell me?"
William looked at her with extreme disgust.
"Sarah, you're a girl I've known since childhood. In my mind, you were so kind and innocent. Why would you do something like that? She's your sister—can't you stand to see her happy?"
After his barrage of questions, Sarah had a better idea of the situation.
As long as he hadn't discovered that man, things wouldn't reach the worst point.
So what if she had someone mess with Ava a little? He used to indulge her in everything. As long as she acted cute, he'd soften. This time would be no different.
Sarah pouted, and immediately two large tears rolled down from the corners of her eyes.
"William, it's only because I love you so much and want to be with you that I got confused and did something stupid. Please don't be angry with me, okay? I'll go apologize to Ava. As long as she'll forgive me, I'll do anything."
William pushed away the hand resting on his arm with disgust.
"Sarah, she's your sister and also Mrs. Morgan. You used such vicious methods against her—do you think I don't exist?"
Sarah started crying pitifully.
"William, I was wrong. I just wanted to marry you. From the first moment I met you, I wanted to be your one and only wife. And when I was twelve, didn't you promise to marry me?"
William rubbed his temples. He even regretted saying those words in his youth, which had led her to develop such vicious thoughts.
"Keep what's yours and don't covet what you shouldn't."
Sarah froze for a moment, then collapsed into a chair as if her soul had been drained.
"William, are you saying you don't want me anymore? You're going to ignore our relationship of over ten years?"
"If not for our relationship of over ten years, do you think you'd still be sitting here safely? I hope last night was the last time."
He left those words and walked out.
Today, the entire Morgan Group building was shrouded in gloom.
All employees worked carefully, and James was especially on edge.
"Mr. Morgan, I heard Lolly has a strange hobby—she likes collecting all kinds of jewelry. From high-end auctions to street stalls, she's everywhere looking for treasures. She'll definitely come to our charity jewelry auction."
James was confident about the event they were planning.
This reminded William of that woman at home. She loved collecting all sorts of things. Once when they went out—it was a business trip—Howard had insisted on putting her on the plane too.
He had no choice but to bring her along.
After finishing his business, she clung to him, wanting to go out for local specialties. Walking past a street stall, she insisted on buying a bracelet for a few dozen dollars, and when they got back, she put those cheap beads in the same cabinet as the luxury jewelry he'd given her.
It disgusted him to death.
Coming back to his senses, William made a sound of acknowledgment, then instructed James:
"Release the news now, make it as big as possible. Then compare the guest list with the attendee list from that jewelry exhibition in the west district a few days ago. Anyone who appears on both lists is most suspicious."
James immediately went to carry out the order.
In her hospital room, Ava saw the Morgan Group's news—a charity jewelry auction would be held in three days, with all proceeds donated to educational institutions in remote mountain areas. The charity auction would be held at the Emerald City International Auction Center.
She opened Weibo and saw that the Morgan Group's official account had also posted an announcement.
Ava couldn't help but like it.
That jerk wanted to use her jewelry for charity, but hadn't bothered to tell her until the last minute. She suddenly remembered the black card William had given her.
It was time to make him bleed a little.
In the blink of an eye, three days passed.
Ava logged into her private work email and received several emails from the Morgan Group's official account, all inviting her to attend the charity gala in the form of a jewelry auction.
She didn't reply. There was no way she would attend his charity auction as Lolly.
She didn't care where the charity auction was held. What she cared about was that jerk using her jewelry for charity. Those pieces were all collected by her from different occasions, some acquired at high prices—they were all her heart and soul.
She'd never been particularly materialistic. Her only hobby was collecting jewelry.
William was taking away her beloved treasures without a word—this was too underhanded. If he was going to be unreasonable, she wouldn't be polite either.
He wanted to do charity? Well, this time she'd let him do plenty of it.
It happened to be the weekend, so she planned to go to the mall first to get an outfit. She couldn't dress too casually for that kind of occasion—she needed to buy an evening gown.
Lucas was best at coordinating outfits. He knew every high-end mall in Emerald City like the back of his hand, including which brand counters were where.
Ava called him out to go shopping together.
Following Lucas's suggestion, they first went to a mall in the city center.
Talk about enemies crossing paths—as soon as they entered, they saw Sarah and Emily looking at jewelry on the first floor, at the Morgan Group's counter no less.
Emily spotted Ava first. She nudged Sarah with her elbow.
"Sarah, look, why is she here?"
Sarah was stunned to see Ava but quickly recovered.
"Shopping? Need to buy jewelry? I can tell William to give you a discount."
Emily rolled her eyes beside her.
"What discount? She's spending my brother's money anyway!"
Sarah was a bit unhappy, but Emily didn't get her meaning and kept complaining about Ava spending a man's money.
"Ava, do you want to come take a look? Don't worry, we'll definitely give you a discount."
Ava had to admire Sarah's acting skills. Even after their falling out, she could still keep up the pretense so seriously without getting tired.
She was inviting her to look at jewelry and claiming she'd give her a discount, acting like Mrs. Morgan.
Ava smiled and played along.
"No need. I already have every piece in this counter. The first sample of each design is at my place. If you need them, I can lend them to you for photos."
