Chapter 15
William froze with his phone in hand.
"What's she doing at the maternity hospital?"
The person on the other end had received orders from James earlier to secretly follow Ava, making it convenient for William to know her whereabouts.
James had figured it out from his own relationship experience - William was just being stubborn. He clearly didn't want the divorce and was hiding away, but wouldn't admit it, asking eight hundred times a day what Ava was doing at home.
To make reporting easier, James had people observe Ava's movements. The person arranged in Emerald City watched Ava enter the clinic, but didn't know what happened inside. Hearing William's bad mood over the phone, he answered carefully,
"Mr. Morgan, could Mrs. Ava Morgan be pregnant?"
William said nothing and hung up, telling James to buy a return ticket.
When Ava returned to the Morgan Mansion, William's gleaming Bentley was parked in the courtyard.
He was back.
Ava parked her car and went inside. William was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window on the phone, his back straight and distinguished, the sunset coating him in a layer of light.
She stared for a few seconds, her heart inevitably stirring.
Even though she'd built up defenses in her heart and forced herself to let him go, just his silhouette alone nearly broke through her walls.
William sensed the gaze behind him and turned around, quickly wrapping up his phone call and pulling her upstairs.
On the bed in the room sat a beautifully wrapped box with a gold-embossed logo that wasn't subtle at all - a limited edition Hermès that was currently super popular and hard for most people to get.
Ava looked back at him questioningly.
"New bag, what I owed you from last time."
Ava couldn't help but blush, remembering the scene from when they spent the night together and she was forced to call him "Honey."
"I don't need it, keep it for Sarah."
William thought she'd be at least a little happy receiving the gift, but this usually docile little lamb came at him with sarcasm.
"If you don't want it, throw it away. Sarah doesn't need bags."
Ava laughed bitterly,
"Right, how could Mr. Morgan's precious person lack bags? If she wanted the stars from the sky, Mr. Morgan would pluck them down for her."
Ava calling him "Mr. Morgan" over and over made William's insides twist.
William grabbed her wrist and pulled her close, their bodies almost touching, his dark eyes looking down at her,
"I'm your husband!"
He emphasized again.
Ava looked at his furrowed brows, feeling a bit satisfied,
"You're my future brother-in-law. When are we getting divorced? I don't want to keep acting with you."
Ava kept poking at his sore spot. She wanted to provoke him so they could hurry up and process the divorce.
But he wasn't so easily fooled. His temper didn't flare up. Instead, he let her go and loosened his tie, his fingers slender.
"We agreed to wait until after the press conference. Do you know how many people are watching the Morgan Group right now? Have you forgotten how Howard treated you? Are you that eager to go find your Joseph?"
Those rival companies had sent countless people to secretly watch him. Once news of the Morgan Group president's divorce got out, it would definitely be sensationalized and make headlines.
Not only would the company's stock price drop, but the new quarter's products would inevitably be affected - that was the result of the entire team's hard work for a whole quarter.
He brought up Howard, and Ava softened a bit, making a final compromise,
"Then we sleep in separate rooms."
William's mind flashed to what his subordinate had said on the phone, his brow twitching as he asked,
"Are you pregnant?"
Ava's heart jumped, but fortunately, she reacted quickly,
"No, I'm not?"
"Then what were you doing at the maternity hospital?"
Ava realized he'd been checking on her,
"I was delivering something to Olivia!"
She emphasized again, "I'm sleeping in the guest room!"
William snorted lightly, his eyes looking her up and down with disdain,
"With your flat figure, you think you need to guard against me?"
After that sarcastic remark, he slammed the door and left. It took Ava a while to process what he meant.
That jerk!
She was a B cup, okay?!!!
"You have a tiny cock!"
Ava cursed at the door, not caring whether he could hear or not.
William didn't come back that night. The next morning, Ava received a call from an unknown number,
"Hello, I'm from JadeDragon Bay Residences property management. Are you Ms. Ava Davis, the owner of Unit 1301, Building 14, Unit 7 at JadeDragon Bay Residences?"
Ava thought for a moment - JadeDragon Bay Residences was the luxury apartment Howard had given them as a wedding gift, now occupied by Sarah. When registering with property management, they'd used Ava's number. William found it troublesome and didn't want to leave his private number.
"Yes, what's the matter?"
The property manager organized their words and spoke with difficulty,
"The neighbor downstairs complained that your place was too loud last night, disturbing others' rest. We're all adults, I'm sure you understand what I mean? We hope you and your husband will be more considerate in the future. It's good for everyone."
Ava's heart trembled, her throat feeling like it was blocked by a stone. She wondered if she'd dug up William's ancestral grave in a past life to deserve this treatment in this one.
So he went to JadeDragon Bay Residences last night.
He and Sarah had sex.
That luxury apartment should have good soundproofing - how much noise did they make to get complaints from downstairs?
He really couldn't wait, not even for the divorce. Even with Sarah heavily pregnant, he still had to have sex with her, not worried about any mishaps with the baby.
Thinking about this, she felt nauseous - or maybe it was morning sickness again.
Ava threw up in the bathroom for a long time. When she came out, she sent William a message:
[Can you remove me from the owner list of that JadeDragon Bay Residences property?]
She didn't want to be this damn owner anymore, with his mistress living there, having to receive complaints from neighbors from time to time, forced to witness the affair of these cheaters.
William received the message while listening to James report on work.
"Mr. Morgan, the thugs who robbed Mrs. Ava Morgan that night have been released. There were three of them in total, and our men have them under control now. Do you want to go see them?"
"Let's go."
William's face was grim. He wanted to see who dared to offend the Morgan Family.
In the dark warehouse, three thugs were tied to abandoned oil drums, their mouths gagged, making muffled grunting sounds.
William pushed the door open, backlit, his tall figure casting a shadow on the ground like the grim reaper coming to pronounce a death sentence.
His presence was so powerful that the three thugs were scared into silence.
"Who's the leader?"
The bodyguard pointed to one of the thugs, "Mr. Morgan, this one, Kai, is the head of the three."
"Remove his gag."
At William's command, the bodyguard immediately pulled out the stinking sock stuffed in Kai's mouth and threw it away, wiping his hand on his thigh in disgust.
Kai dry-heaved a few times but couldn't vomit.
William strode over and kicked him in the face. With his hands and feet bound, Kai was completely a sitting duck. William's kick knocked him to the ground, his head hitting the cement floor with a thud.
He screamed once, then glanced at William's grim face and didn't dare make another sound, not even daring to meet his eyes.
"Who put you up to this?"
Kai stubbornly said, "No one. I acted on lust."
This statement only fueled William's rage more.
What was he to dare covet a Morgan Family woman? He must have a death wish.
William went up and kicked him hard again, right in his vital parts. The warehouse filled with agonized screams, and the other two thugs were so scared they wet themselves.
"You think you're worthy? Who put you up to this? Talk or not?"
Kai curled up on the ground in pain, shaking his head. That kick probably ruined him completely.
James stepped forward to remind him,
"Mr. Morgan, this Kai is probably being blackmailed."
William turned his gaze to the other two. Those thugs immediately made muffled sounds, indicating they had something to say. James also removed the gag from one of them - it turned out to be men's underwear. He threw it on the ground in disgust and glared at the bodyguard.
The thug whose mouth was freed immediately confessed, crying,
"I'll talk, I'll talk! I saw the woman who ordered this. Don't hit me, I'm the only man in my family, I haven't married yet, haven't had a son..."
