Chapter 140
Sarah narrowed her eyes and asked Ava,
"Ava, I have some private matters to discuss with William. Could you give us a moment?"
Ava didn't say anything. She looked up at William. Sarah said she had private matters to discuss with him, and now that everyone knew she was Mrs. Morgan, she wanted to see how he would react first.
Several women's eyes instantly focused on William.
The next second, William looked over at Ava. His gaze was plain and indifferent, as casual as eating or drinking water, but in Ava's heart it was like a raging storm. Before he could speak, Ava already knew the answer.
No matter when or where, choosing Sarah was his habit, as routine as eating or drinking water.
"Ava, you..."
Ava smiled bitterly and interrupted him,
"You two talk. I'll go get something to eat."
Ava turned and left, feeling bitter and uncomfortable inside. She hadn't walked far when Emily caught up with her,
"Ava."
She called out from behind.
Ava didn't even turn her head as she asked, "What is it?"
Emily jogged a few steps to catch up,
"Let's chat for a bit. I know some big news I want to tell you."
Ava knew she had no good intentions and kept walking faster, not wanting to talk to her at all. Emily's intelligence must have come from who knows where - she and William were clearly siblings, but she didn't have half his smarts. She just let people use her.
Emily caught up and walked beside Ava. She wouldn't miss any chance to upset Ava.
"Ava, tell me, when exactly are you and my brother getting divorced? What's the point of you two going on like this? Look, my brother only has eyes for Sarah. They've loved each other, slept together, and have had feelings for each other since childhood. Now they even have a child. How long are you going to keep being a homewrecker?"
Ava suddenly stopped. Emily called her a homewrecker? That word stung every nerve.
"Emily, what's wrong with your brain?"
Emily wasn't angry at being scolded - instead, she felt rather pleased. Ava was finally annoyed by her, which meant her words had really gotten to her.
"I'm trying to have a nice chat with you, but why are you cursing at me? Let's talk about girl stuff. My brother doesn't even want to touch you, right? I bet he saves all his desire for Sarah. Otherwise, how did she get pregnant so soon after coming back to the country, while you two have lived together for three years with nothing to show for it?"
Her words were quite sarcastic.
Ava looked at Emily with disbelief in her eyes,
"You're supposed to be a wealthy young lady. Your parents are reasonable people. How can you speak and act so rudely?"
Wealthy young ladies hated most being told they had no manners. After all, the money spent on their education from childhood could be more than what ordinary people earn in a lifetime. Being told they had no manners was an insult to their entire family.
Emily was provoked,
"How can you talk like that? You can't keep your man, and you're taking it out on me. No wonder you're the other woman."
Ava was already angry, and Emily had to chase after her to make trouble. She wasn't going to hold back anymore,
"Emily, I'd advise you to spend the money you'd use on plastic surgery on learning something instead. Your brain is just for show. Do you know how many men Sarah has slept with? And you're saying the child in her belly is your brother's?"
So stupid. Ava felt like talking to her was lowering her own intelligence.
Emily's face visibly turned red, looking like she was about to hit someone,
"What nonsense are you spouting? Sarah is devoted to my brother. How could she have other men? You're the one who flirts around, even going after men who are engaged. You throw yourself at anyone with money. Shameless!"
Just as she said this, Lewis walked over. He stood right next to Ava and asked,
"Mrs. Ava Morgan, are you having some trouble?"
Ava smiled slightly, "Mr. Jones, you explain it to her. I'm tired."
Emily immediately changed her expression when she saw Lewis, becoming sweet and pitiful, like she'd been bullied,
"Lewis, Ava cursed at me. You don't know how mean she was. I couldn't argue with her."
Emily looked like she was about to cry.
Ava saw this same routine as Sarah's, and a flash of disgust crossed her eyes. She left the two of them and walked away.
When Lewis saw Emily and Ava arguing here, he vaguely heard a few sentences. Emily's words were sharp and mean, but now she was playing the victim first. He couldn't help but feel disgusted.
Looking at Ava's lonely figure, his heart felt desolate too, and once again, he felt the Morgan Family had no good people.
He wasn't in the mood to listen to a woman cry here, especially Emily, a woman he didn't like.
After Ava left, Lewis also turned to leave. Emily anxiously chased after him,
"Lewis, why are you ignoring me? My grandfather said to come over for dinner this weekend. When you come, can you bring me flowers? I like white roses."
Lewis was annoyed. He stopped,
"Miss Morgan, our values don't match. We're not suitable together. You shouldn't waste your time on me. There are plenty of unmarried wealthy young men in Emerald City. With the Morgan Family's influence, you should be able to pick anyone."
Emily's face turned dark. His soul had been stolen by Ava. Damn Ava.
She bit her lower lip and said pitifully,
"Lewis, how do you know our values don't match if you don't try with me? We come from similar families, have received equal education, we're well-matched in every way, our conditions are perfectly compatible. Why would you say our values don't match?"
Lewis's intolerance for stupidity kicked in. He looked around and, seeing no one nearby, he boldly argued with her, "Miss Morgan, do you really think Ava is the homewrecker?"
Emily answered with certainty,
"Isn't she? Sarah knew my brother first. She's even pregnant with my brother's child now. Shouldn't Ava step aside?"
Her words shocked Lewis,
"Miss Morgan, is this just what you think, or does your whole family think this way? William and Ava are a legally married couple. William being involved with another woman outside is called cheating. Sarah is trying to take her place by getting pregnant to force Ava to step aside - it's a typical cheating scenario. How is it that in your mouth, the most innocent person becomes the worst villain? Does the whole Morgan Family have these kinds of values?"
Emily didn't think there was anything wrong with her thinking,
"Ava took advantage of the situation. She latched onto the Morgan Family when Sarah went abroad. She's the homewrecker."
Lewis felt heartbroken for Ava. How did she end up with such a family of weirdos?
"Did the Morgan Family get blackmailed by her, so you married her?"
Emily didn't understand what Lewis meant and scoffed,
"She doesn't have that kind of ability to blackmail the Morgan Family. My brother can easily control her."
"Exactly. William had the power to choose. Since William married her, it was his choice. Once married, he should treat her well, be consistent, and not think about other women. No matter how powerful the Morgan Family is, you can't be above the law. You still have to follow the one-husband-one-wife system. Having multiple wives is impossible."
Emily couldn't argue back and stomped her feet in anger.
Lewis felt that staying with her even one more minute was torture. He went straight to the deck to smoke.
This marriage arrangement needed to be called off as soon as possible.
