Chapter 139
After throwing up, Sarah looked a bit tired, but that couldn't hide her burning heart - she now had a trump card in her hand.
In the distance, William was making rounds with Ava, greeting guests, when he unexpectedly spotted a mysterious big shot attending the Morgan Group's celebration party.
Robert Davis was a famous real estate tycoon in Harmony City. Even more famous than his properties were his ruthless business tactics. When SylvaLand Realty came into his hands, it was just a mid-sized company, but under his management, it had dominated the region in just five years.
Through land acquisition and development, no company in Harmony City could compete with him anymore. SylvaLand Realty could be seen everywhere south of the Viranda River, clearly showing its monopolistic position.
People in wealthy circles had discussed how Robert Davis in the south and William Morgan in the north were both business sharks not to be messed with lightly.
He had no idea why this big shot had shown up in Emerald City, let alone on the Morgan Group's yacht. That face appeared frequently in financial magazines - while others might not recognize him, William, having grown up in this wealthy circle, spotted him immediately.
William hadn't invited this big shot himself. Though he didn't know why he was here, a guest was a guest, and there was no reason to be rude.
He grabbed a fresh glass of wine and walked over with Ava.
"I didn't know Mr. Davis would grace us with his presence. Please forgive any lack of hospitality."
Robert raised his glass and clinked it lightly with William's. His eyes were deep, and when he looked at William, there seemed to be a barely noticeable trace of anger.
"The Morgan Group made such a big splash - a press conference followed by a celebration party. I happened to be in Emerald City, would've been a shame not to join the fun."
William raised an eyebrow, then returned to his usual cold expression.
"Mr. Davis, you should have given me a heads-up. I would've had my assistant arrange the best suite."
Robert replied without hesitation, "That would be very kind of you. How about arranging it now?"
William had already said it, so he wasn't going to be stingy about one suite. This yacht was Morgan Group property - you couldn't find a bigger one in the whole country. There were plenty of rooms inside.
He called James over to make arrangements.
Robert's gaze fell on Ava beside William, his eyes softening considerably.
"Mrs. Ava Morgan, impressive. I've seen your work - very excellent. Mr. Morgan should know to treasure such a wife."
William's brow furrowed. He hated people discussing his private affairs, and now someone was bringing it up to his face. A wave of displeasure rose in his heart.
"Naturally."
Robert suddenly laughed, though the smile didn't reach his eyes.
"What does Mr. Morgan think counts as treasuring someone?"
"Every couple has its own way of getting along. This kind of thing is like drinking water - only you know if it's hot or cold. As for how to treasure someone, there shouldn't be one standard answer, right? Is Mr. Davis very interested in my family affairs?"
Robert took a sip of wine and said, "Not really. Just meeting Mrs. Ava Morgan for the first time and seeing her design work, I felt moved to comment."
William's displeasure reached its peak. This old fox seemed to be coming for his wife. He tightened his grip on Ava.
"Mr. Davis, I saw last month's headline news. You should go home and explain things clearly to your wife; don't let there be any misunderstandings. Women these days are very good at making a fuss. Having a few drinks and making a mistake is understandable."
He spoke about Robert's affairs in a scumbag's tone. Last month, Robert's scandal with a popular young star from the entertainment industry had caused quite a stir. He had his own mess to deal with and still had the nerve to talk about others?
Robert laughed a few times.
"What's real can't be fake, what's fake can't be real. Mr. Morgan should be careful not to play with fire. Women these days are scheming - you're after their bodies, but they're after your status. They won't even take money; they'll cling to you for dear life. Don't end up with everything falling apart, losing both people and money, and dragging down such a good wife in the process."
After Robert finished speaking, his eyes fell on Ava again.
This made William very uncomfortable. He moved Ava behind him, blocking that annoying gaze.
"Mr. Davis, you should handle your own family affairs first. When women get ruthless, they can do anything. Don't push Mrs. Davis too far."
Ava stood to the side without saying a word, feeling somewhat awkward. She didn't understand why these two men had suddenly developed this hostile atmosphere while talking. She thought it over but couldn't figure out what went wrong.
Just then, James came over with a room card. "Mr. Davis, this is the key card for the suite on the second floor. If you need anything, just call the service desk, and we'll serve you right away."
William grabbed the room card before Robert could. With a stern face, he asked, "Mr. Davis is my honored guest. Why didn't you arrange for Mr. Davis to stay on the top floor?"
James was confused for a few seconds. There were only two luxury suites on the top floor - one was occupied by their own CEO, and the other had a broken water pipe this morning. You couldn't shower, couldn't use the bathroom, and had to use the public restroom in the hallway.
Did he hear that right? Was Mr. Morgan suggesting they put this big shot in that room without water?
James looked at William's expression and froze for a moment, then quickly caught on. After working with him for so many years, they had that kind of understanding.
James immediately changed his tune.
"Look at my memory! There's another suite available on the top floor - how could I forget? Mr. Davis, Mr. Morgan, you two keep chatting. I'll go arrange it right now."
William drained his glass and took Ava's hand.
"Mr. Davis, please make yourself at home. I'll take my wife to greet some other guests."
Robert nodded, watching William and Ava's retreating figures, his eyes covered with a layer of complex emotions.
William had been holding back, and only when he reached a place with no one around did he ask, "Do you know Robert?"
Ava was stunned. "His name is Robert? I don't know him."
William didn't think she was lying. When she lied, her expression wasn't this relaxed - it was easy to tell. But he was certain in his heart that Robert, that old fox, had come specifically for her.
"Think carefully again. Have you met him somewhere and forgotten, or had some interaction somewhere?"
Ava glared at him, thinking to herself that this dog of a man was being passive-aggressive about what exactly - getting jealous even over someone she didn't know.
"I really don't know him!"
There was some impatience in her tone.
Seeing her firm attitude, William didn't press further.
"William, I finally found you."
As the two stood in silence, a voice called out. Ava already had PTSD from that voice. Hearing Sarah's call, she couldn't help but tense up all her muscles; her heart gripped tightly.
William turned around to see Sarah and Emily walking over hand in hand.
"William."
Sarah called out again, looking at him with sparkling eyes full of light.
William hadn't seen Sarah for several days. Seeing that she'd lost quite a bit of weight, he felt some sympathy.
He'd seen all the online attacks against her. During those busy days at the company, he hadn't been able to help her much, only telling her not to go out or go online.
"Sarah, what do you need?"
