Chapter 13

AUDREY POV

Over the next full days, I literally had to babysit Prince Luke. And by babysit, I mean go everywhere with him. He was on an extended stay with his father and that meant he had to go with me on all visits.

“Could you stop following me for one second?” I said as he flopped on the chair beside me.

“No, I won’t. I like following you. Why are you making a big deal out of this?” He said crossing his leg.

I rolled my eyes in disgust and said,

“Don’t you have something better to do? Why are you being a big jerk to me. I can’t believe that my father would think it proper for you to marry me.”

“You don’t want to marry me?” He asked as if he was stunned. What did he think he was? Prince Loyalty? All the girls love him?

“Of course I don’t want to marry you. What did you think? That I love you? Eww. It will never happen.” I said closing my book shut as I stood up from the chair and paced around.

“But your parents are good friends, and we are both loyalty. What more do you need in a guy? Are you in love with someone else? A commoner? You know you can’t do that? It is against the rules.” He said as I turned around and faced him.

“Do you really think you can change my mind with this words. First of all, it doesn’t matter to you who I love or not. I can be in love with a commoner and nothing will ever change. You aree not the only prince left on earth. Do you even know why I don’t even want to marry you?” I asked as he shook his head.

“No I don’t. I never really thought about that.” He said as I slapped my forehead. Not only was he proud, he was dumb too.

“So why do you want to marry me? Do you even know anything about me?” I said as he replied,

“You are beautiful. Any man would be lucky to have you as a wife. Your beauty spreads more than this kingdom. People far and near have talked about you. That is why I want to marry you.” He said as if he was pleased with himself.

“Oh my God?” I said leaving my mouth wide open.

“Are you surprised?” He asked as I nodded my head slowly. He smiled and said,

“You shouldn’t be. You should know that you are very beautioful…

“No, I am surprised at the fact that this is all you think about? My beauty? You don’t even know my last name? Or what I want to do? Or my hobbies? Or my opions on things? All you care about is I have a pretty face. I am not a property to be bought and displayed for people to admire. I am a person with feelings.” I said as he shook his head.

“Those things doesn’t matter. You are a princess. You need to be known everywhere. You need wealth and trinkets to adore your body, Don’t forget you need a powerful King by your side who will help you rule this kingdom. This is a matter of politics. No one especially the royalty have time for such fanatics such as love. If you think you can get away from this agreement, I would like to see you try. Do not anger my father. You may not like his results.” He said standing up too.

I stood in front of him, hands balled into a fist and I unclenched it. There was no need getting angry, what he was saying was true. I needed to get out of here.

I turned to leave but he held my hand and said.

“Where do you think you are going? We are not done with this conversation. My father said we should get to know each other. Don’t put up a fuss about this already.” He said as I pulled my hand away from him and said,

“I don’t want to spend time with someone who just thinks I am a pretty face and nothing more. That is an insult to my dignity. We are getting married whether I like it or not. But I would like it if I can be left alone till that marriage day. Is that a problem for you?” I asked as he shook his head slowly.

“No, but I don’t want any future wife of mine to hate me especially when I know I will be spending the rest of my life with her. I will do my best to get on your good side an make you see that I am a good guy. You are just misunderstanding me.” He said as I rolled my eyes.

“Oh please, there is nothing that you can do to impress me, or make me change my mind. All you have done since you came here is look pretty and flirt with the maids or annoy the hell out of me. And the only person you are snagging up to is my father; that is when you behave maturedly. But this won’t move me one bit. So excuse me please. I have to be somewhere. Anywhere but here.” I said as I pulled my hand away and left him there.

I tried not to feel bad because I know I had hurt his feelings but I couldn’t care less anymore. My parents never cared about my feelings either. It was all business and pleasure, an whon was going to rule. Well I guess I better start being heartless, that is what he wants after all. A strong woman to rule after his death. People with emotions aren’t strong enough to do the things that they don’t want to do.

But deep down, all I wanted was to check up on that beast in the cave. Despite the fact that he almost killed me, I was still worried about him. I guess I would have to find a way to get to him.
