Chapter 52 Pulling Out the Handgun to Threaten
Chapter 52 Pulling Out the Handgun to Threaten
Elodie's POV
The bodyguard immediately stepped back, as if nothing had just happened.
"Whatever you say," Ethan said. "Your word is final."
He seemed to be saying that as long as I behaved, he could give me everything, including power over others.
I ignored him and turned toward the academic building.
He followed close behind me like a shadow I couldn't shake off.
Wherever we went, the crowd automatically parted to make way. In those stares, there was no longer the frivolous curiosity of spectators—only awe and fear.
I walked straight into the classroom and found a seat in the corner.
Ethan brazenly sat down beside me and even pulled out an original edition book from his briefcase, looking as relaxed as if he were the student here.
Just as I was about to tell him to get lost, a commotion erupted at the classroom door.
Several tall guys blocked the doorway. I recognized the one in front—Jack, a friend from Alex's basketball team.
They were clearly coming for us.
Jack and his friends strode over and surrounded us, their faces showing undisguised hostility.
"So you're the new sugar daddy Elodie's latched onto?" Jack looked down at Ethan, his tone full of provocation.
My heart tightened as I grabbed Ethan's arm. I knew his methods well - these fools weren't worth his effort.
"This has nothing to do with you. Leave now," I commanded coldly.
"Oh, protecting him already?" A guy behind Jack laughed mockingly. "Elodie, you're really something—stringing Alex along while messing around with other guys, and now flirting right in front of us. How does a slut like you still have the nerve to stay at this school?"
The filthy words hit me hard.
Before I could react, I felt the muscles in Ethan's arm tense up instantly under my grip.
A dangerous aura began radiating from him.
"Don't," I said in a low voice, using all my strength to hold him back. "Ethan, I said no causing trouble at school."
I met the eyes of Jack and his friends, filled with their stupid sense of righteous "standing up for their bro," and warned them patiently, word by word, "You can still leave now. He's not someone you can afford to mess with."
But my warning sounded like something else entirely to them.
"Can't afford to mess with?" Jack laughed and pointed at us both. "What, you think we're like Alex, not good enough for you? Well, I'm messing with him today. Let's see just how impressive he really is!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, he grabbed a thick textbook from the desk and hurled it straight at Ethan's face without a second thought!
"You're asking for it!" I tried to intervene, but it was too late.
Ethan simply tilted his head slightly and easily dodged the book.
The spine grazed past his cheek and hit the wall behind him with a dull thud.
He slowly, methodically removed his glasses and carefully wiped the lenses with a silk handkerchief.
The surrounding students let out suppressed gasps, and troublemakers even started egging them on.
"Fight! Fight!"
Seeing his attack miss, Jack became even more furious. He tugged at his collar and assumed a fighting stance. "If you've got the guts, come outside and fight me one-on-one!"
Ethan put his glasses back on, stood up, and adjusted his immaculate cuffs.
"Sure."
Jack and his friends acted like they'd already won, jeering triumphantly as they crowded around Ethan to head outside.
The atmosphere in the classroom reached a fever pitch as everyone excitedly waited for the show.
Watching Ethan's back, I felt a chill run from my feet straight to the top of my head.
He wasn't going to fight. He was going to kill.
Just as Jack's hand was about to touch the door handle, Ethan suddenly stopped.
He turned around and, under everyone's stunned gaze, slowly and calmly pulled something from his inside jacket pocket.
It was a black Beretta pistol, gleaming with cold metallic light.
All the noise in the classroom stopped dead in that instant.
Everyone's faces froze with disbelief and terror, as if someone had hit pause.
Ethan ignored the deathly silence around him. He raised his hand, and before Jack could react, the cold barrel was pressed firmly against his forehead.
Time seemed to freeze in that moment.
Jack's arrogant face drained of all color the second the gun touched it, leaving only a corpse-like pallor.
His legs gave out, and he collapsed to the floor. His crotch quickly became soaked, giving off a foul stench.
His friends scattered even faster, crawling and tumbling out of the classroom as if demons were chasing them.
The entire classroom fell silent except for the sounds of chattering teeth and sharp intakes of breath.
Ethan shrugged, put the gun away, and methodically slipped it back into his inside pocket.
He didn't even glance at Jack, who had wet himself on the floor. He simply turned around and fixed his gaze back on me.
He reached out and pulled me into his arms, lowering his head to whisper in my ear in a voice only we could hear, "What classes do you have this afternoon? I'll go with you."
I stood frozen in his embrace, my blood feeling like it had turned to ice. I couldn't say a word.
He seemed satisfied with my reaction. The smile at the corner of his mouth deepened, and the arm around my shoulder tightened, as if declaring ownership.
The students around us didn't dare breathe, each one wishing they could shrink into a ball to avoid catching this devil's attention.
Looking at the undisguised fear on their faces, I realized for the first time with such clarity that Ethan's presence had completely severed me from this world.
I had to escape.
The thought screamed frantically in my mind.
