Chapter 14 Pranks
Elodie's POV
I instinctively wanted to dodge, but I was holding a tray and couldn't react in time.
Everything on the tray spilled onto the floor.
Shit!
Samantha let out a short scream and immediately jumped back, pointing at the mess on the floor with a smug smile on her face. "Elodie, what kind of work is this? So clumsy!"
Her friends immediately chimed in, "Exactly! Can't even do such a simple thing. Do you know how much our table costs?"
Samantha crossed her arms, looking down at me from above, her red lips curling into a vicious arc. "You dirtied my shoes and spilled all this stuff. That's quite a loss. I don't think you can afford to pay for it, so how about this—get on your knees right now and bark like a dog three times, and I'll be the bigger person and let this go."
The private room instantly burst into laughter. Everyone was waiting to see me humiliated.
I knew Samantha was getting revenge for what happened at the party last time. This little bitch kept provoking me again and again. I really wanted to tear her mouth apart!
At that moment, Alex, who had been silent, stood up and walked over to me. "Elodie, stop this. Apologize to Samantha, then come beg me. As long as you admit your mistake, I can let today's incident and all the stupid things you've done before slide."
I just found it laughable. Were these two bitches addicted to their little act?
"Are you deaf? Alex is talking to you!" Samantha shrieked.
I ignored them and quickly cleaned up the mess.
I picked up the tray full of garbage and slowly stood up.
Under everyone's shocked gazes, I walked toward these two people.
"What... what are you doing?" Samantha was scared by the coldness in my eyes and took a step back.
I raised my hand, and the next second, accompanied by Samantha's out-of-control screaming, I poured all the mess from the tray over her head.
Brown liquid flowed down her carefully styled curls, covering her face, and her white dress was instantly stained with filth.
The entire private room fell deathly silent.
A few seconds later, Samantha suddenly snapped back to reality. "Ah! My hair! Elodie, you bitch! I'm going to kill you!"
The girls around Samantha finally reacted, screaming as they surrounded me, each one making moves to grab me.
"You're crazy! How dare you do this to Samantha!"
"Grab her! Don't let her get away!"
I calmly took a step back and held up my phone that I'd been hiding in my apron pocket. The screen clearly showed a recording in progress.
"I've recorded everything that just happened, including every word of Samantha telling me to bark like a dog." I met their gazes without fear. "If any of you dare touch me, this recording will be on the Columbia University forum and at the police station tomorrow."
The girls' movements instantly froze. They looked at each other, and no one dared to take another step forward.
This completely ignited Samantha's fury. She wiped the filth from her face, her features twisted with extreme anger, and screamed hysterically, "Call the police! I'm calling the police right now! I'm going to charge you with assault!"
As she spoke, she reached for her phone, but a hand firmly held her down.
It was Alex.
His face was dark as he stared at me intently.
"Enough, Samantha. Don't make this bigger than it needs to be."
"Alex, didn't you see what she did to me? And you're still protecting her?" Samantha looked at him in disbelief. "Are you still hung up on her?"
Alex suddenly shook off Samantha's hand. "Have you made enough of a scene? If you hadn't deliberately stuck your foot out to trip her, would any of this have happened? You think I didn't see that?"
This one sentence was essentially an admission that Samantha had deliberately caused trouble.
Samantha's face instantly lost all color. She hadn't expected Alex to expose her in front of everyone.
"I..." She opened her mouth but couldn't say a word.
"You what? Playing these cheap tricks right in front of me—you think that's fun?" Alex said. "Look at yourself right now, like a crazy woman. Disgusting."
"I'm disgusting?" Samantha's eyes widened.
Before she could speak, her lackeys had already jumped in. "Alex, how can you say that about Samantha? If you weren't still obsessed with this bitch, would she be like this? She's sacrificed so much for you, and she didn't do it on purpose. How can you blame Samantha!"
"Exactly! It was clearly Elodie who accidentally fell. How is that Samantha's fault?"
"I think you've been fooled by that little bitch Elodie!"
Samantha's lackeys, one after another, had already defended her.
I watched as Samantha put on a pitiful expression. She tugged at Alex's sleeve, her eyes reddening. "I really didn't do that. Please believe me..."
Alex snorted coldly and stormed out without a word.
"Alex!" Samantha hurried after him.
As she passed by me, she stopped, glaring at me with those bloodshot eyes full of venom, squeezing out a sentence through gritted teeth. "Elodie, you just wait!"
I watched her pathetic figure chasing after him and sneered.
Idiot. You think I'm scared?
I'm not that poor student Elodie anymore.
The farce finally ended. The manager rushed over, and seeing the mess on the floor and everyone standing there dumbfounded, his face went pale.
He didn't dare offend Alex and his group, so he took all his anger out on me. "Elodie, you're fired. Pack your things and leave now!"
I wasn't surprised. I took off my work uniform and left.
By the time I got back to the apartment, it was completely dark.
I tiredly pushed open the door. The light in the entryway was on, and the air was filled with an unfamiliar, sickeningly sweet perfume scent.
I was a bit surprised. Looking up, I saw a figure busy in the kitchen.
I walked closer and saw it was a strange woman.
She was wearing a silk slip dress that was obviously expensive, with a graceful figure. Her chestnut curls cascaded casually over her shoulders. Just from her back, you could tell she was alluring.
Hearing the noise, she turned around. When she saw me, she paused for a moment, then showed a perfect smile.
That smile carried a hint of the hostess's authority, exactly like Isabella's expression when I first met her.
"Hello, you must be Elodie, right?" She waved the ladle in her hand at me, her tone intimate. "I'm Vivian, Nelson's friend. He has a business dinner tonight, so I'm just making some late-night snacks while waiting for him to come back."
Friend? What kind of friend wears such a revealing slip dress and makes late-night snacks in a man's kitchen?
I forced a smile. She really knew how to make herself at home.
Just then, the bedroom door suddenly opened.
Nelson walked out. He seemed to have just showered, wearing only a loosely draped bathrobe, the collar wide open, revealing his solid chest and sexy collarbone. His hair was still dripping water, and that handsome face carried a hint of laziness and post-coital satisfaction.
When he saw me, his steps paused, and a flash of surprise crossed those deep blue eyes.
But my gaze fell on his neck, where there was a glaring lipstick mark.
Looks like they had quite an intense session just now.
