Chapter 48 Follow Your Heart
Chapter 48 Follow Your Heart
Morris washed his hands and sat down at the dining table. "Yes, I have time."
Emily placed a bowl of pasta in front of him. "Then I'll bring her to the company tomorrow. You must be busy though, so perhaps I should just contact Otis instead."
"I'm not busy," his voice sounded somewhat muffled. "Tomorrow, bring her directly to my office. I'll have my secretary send over the contract."
"OK."
"By the way, what's your sister's name?"
"Her name is Rebecca Collins."
Morris looked surprised. "Aren't you biological sisters? You don't even share the same last name."
"No, she is my biological sister. She was sold to another family shortly after birth, so she has a different surname." Emily explained with a smile.
"I see." Morris paused for a moment, clearly troubled by this revelation. Emily's family situation seemed far more complicated than he had imagined, and he felt even more sympathy for her.
"I'm full." Morris barely touched his dinner before leaving the table. He hadn't been eating properly since Emily announced she would be leaving.
Emily watched his retreating figure while biting her spoon, feeling a dull ache in her chest.
Only about two weeks remained before her contract with Morris expired.
The next day, Emily brought Rebecca to Sparkle Stone Entertainment. Otis led them directly to Morris's office.
Rebecca seemed uneasy. "Emily, aren't we being a bit too conspicuous? People will call me a nepotism hire and question my abilities."
"What are you afraid of?" Emily dismissed her concern. "Your abilities aren't determined by what others say. Being visible is good—it means no one will dare mess with you later."
Remembering how Rebecca had been publicly humiliated and abandoned by everyone in her previous life, Emily didn't see anything wrong with using connections. Only a fool wouldn't use the advantages they had.
With Morris and Sophia at Sparkle Stone Entertainment, Rebecca's career path would be much smoother.
When they entered the office, Morris was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window looking outside. He turned when he heard them come in.
Emily heard Rebecca gasp beside her. "Oh my god, he's gorgeous!"
Morris cleared his throat, his fist covering his mouth. "You're here. Please, have a seat."
After everyone was seated, his secretary brought in the contract. Morris placed it in front of Rebecca. "I looked at your account yesterday. You're doing well."
Rebecca was flattered. "You checked my account? I'm honored! So, Mr. Anderson, what do you think? Is there room for improvement?"
"Let me share my thoughts. Your video quality is good, but your style is too varied, which makes it hard to attract and keep followers. I suggest defining a clear style and sticking to it—that's the best way to grow your audience and build a loyal fanbase."
"Exactly!" Rebecca rushed over to Morris's side, excited. "You're absolutely right, Mr. Anderson! But I've been struggling to find the right style for myself. Maybe you could help me figure it out?"
Morris found Rebecca's enthusiasm charming. "Once you join the company, we'll have people analyze your style and assist with your shoots. I'm confident your account will grow significantly."
Rebecca was filled with determination. "Mr. Anderson, I'll work really hard!"
Emily smiled affectionately at her sister's enthusiasm, and Morris, watching Emily's smile, found his own lips curving upward.
Their eyes met briefly before both looked away.
Rebecca caught this exchange and noticed the chemistry between them. Her eyes darted back and forth between the two, and she couldn't help commenting, "Handsome CEO and beautiful housekeeper—this is perfect!"
Emily glared at her. "Don't be ridiculous."
"What do you know?" Rebecca turned to Morris. "Mr. Anderson doesn't mind, right?"
Morris raised an eyebrow but didn't answer her question.
Rebecca winked at him. "Mr. Anderson, I know everything about my sister. If you need any help or have any questions, just ask me."
"Good." Morris was secretly delighted, mentally deciding to boost Rebecca's compensation package.
After signing the contract, Emily left with Rebecca. To thank Emily, Rebecca offered to treat her to lunch, and they went to a Mexican restaurant.
"Emily, I think Mr. Anderson likes you," Rebecca said, sniffing at the spicy aroma of her food.
Emily's fork, which had just picked up a piece of grilled steak, dropped it back onto her plate. She then casually picked it up again and put it in her bowl. "You're overthinking it. That's appreciation, understand? It's perfectly normal for a boss to appreciate someone as excellent as me. When you become as good as I am, Mr. Anderson will appreciate you too."
"You're in denial. I think you like him too. Why don't you give it a try?"
"Try what? We're not from the same world," Emily replied calmly.
Rebecca fanned her mouth from the spicy food, taking a big gulp of her lemonade. She then looked at Emily with exasperation. "Are you stupid? Men like Mr. Anderson are incredibly rare. Dating him would be a win regardless. Who cares if you're from different worlds? Date him first and worry about the rest later. You won't lose anything."
Rebecca's logic made sense, but Emily shook her head with a bitter smile. "But I'm a housekeeper. I have professional ethics. Dating an employer is absolutely, absolutely not allowed!"
"Oh, come on, don't be like that! Besides, isn't your contract ending soon? Once it expires, make your move."
Emily sat up straight and flicked Rebecca's forehead. "Stop watching so many romantic dramas. What are you even saying? Mr. Anderson would be horrified if he heard you."
Rebecca rubbed her forehead. "I'm just looking out for you. Emily, life is short; you should enjoy it while you can!"
She sighed. "Haven't you noticed? You're very resistant to intimate relationships and quite passive when it comes to feelings. If I hadn't been so persistent about being your friend, we wouldn't be this close. But not everyone is as thick-skinned as I am. If you keep pushing people away, they might never dare to approach you again."
At these words, Emily's heart skipped a beat, because Morris was indeed somewhat shy.
Seeing Emily lost in thought, Rebecca pressed on. "Emily, don't be afraid to gain, and don't be afraid to lose. The most important thing in life is to follow your heart."
"Follow my heart," Emily repeated the phrase.
On the way back to Crimson Leaf Villas, Rebecca's words kept echoing in her mind, making her wonder if there could be a romantic connection between her and Morris.
That evening, when Morris returned home, he tossed a contract in front of Emily.
"Take a look."
