Chapter 67 Jar of Hearts

Chapter 67 Jar of Hearts

Quinn's POV

"Quinn?"

"I'm just gonna pick up Dylan and then leave," I finally replied.

I saw Grayson smile through the side windows. He then put his phone back in his pants pocket. "No problem. The decision is all yours, Quinn."

Of course the decision was mine. Because, how could it be in his hands? I was the one with the right to manage myself and Dylan, not him. So without him emphasizing it, I already knew.

"I'm really, really, grateful to see you again," Grayson said after a moment of silence.

I gave him a quick glance through the glass in the window. From here I could see his reflection where his face now became sunny, different from the first time he saw me earlier.

What was he thinking? He thinks he’s managed to get an apology from me just because I go with him? He thinks he’s getting another chance from me? I haven't decided yet!

Even if he pays attention and remembers the little things I say instead of ignoring them, it doesn't mean it makes him special anymore. However, I still can't forgive him for what happened. I still can't get over how he took my feelings for granted by believing he could buy them with money.

He should know that not everything he can get with money. One of them is my trust. So he has to do something if he wants to get it back. And I'll make sure it won't be easy. So if he can get through it, then that means he deserves a second chance from me. But if he gives up and fails to complete my challenge, then he must be ready to give up his hopes to return to my life.

I told him that the current me is the new version of myself. The current me will not melt easily. And this new version is what Grayson has to deal with.

"I know you must be very angry and disappointed with me."

Of course I am. It's a good thing you realized, otherwise, I don't know, you might never see me again.

"That's why if you have something to say, you can say it now. Whatever it is, even if it's cursing at me, I'll accept it. Because I know I'm a jerk. But after that, I hope I can prove to you that what I said to you yesterday or just now was not an act, but indeed a reality."

Oh that hope again. In the end, this whole conversation led to that again. It's really annoying. He’s so insistent and over confident.

He thinks I believe that I'm his fated mate? He even hid me from the people closest to him.

If that's true, then he should have proven his words that were written in the news, right?

If I really am his fated mate, he should’ve introduced me to the public like he promised. But what is the reality? He just argued that his family wouldn't agree if his fated mate was a human.

Can't he fight for it? What a wonder!

If his fated mate is someone who is very precious to him, he should fight instead of being afraid. Because I don't need a scared man in my life as it would be troublesome.

I just need a man who is willing and able to weather all storms with me. That way I can call him a true partner because he is willing to grow together with me, instead of hiding me for absurd reasons like that.

Besides, with his current power and position, I don't think it would be difficult for him to do all that. Unless he was just lying to get two women at once!

"Oh, where are you planning to spend the night?"

This time I had to turn my body to face Grayson. "What do you have to do with that? Where I'll spend the night or where I'll stay is none of your business."

"Yeah right, it's really none of my business. I'm sorry if my questions made you uncomfortable."

Huh? What's with that defeatist attitude of his? So he wants to just accept my decision without trying anything else? Tsk. Does he actually intend to correct his mistakes or not? Just like that, he gave up!

Oh or could it be that he already has other plans? Could he be using Dylan to make me stay in his penthouse later?

"If you try-"

Suddenly, without warning, Grayson slammed on the brakes, making my body stagger forward until it almost hit the dashboard. Fortunately he moved quickly to lock my body back again with one hand and the other to control the steering wheel.

"Fuck! That shithead!"

The screeching sound of car tires could be heard from both Grayson's car and the car that suddenly stopped in front of us. Luckily Grayson stopped his car in time before hitting that damn car. And luckily again we survived unharmed.

But damn it, I recognized the car. It was Owen's car.

And sure enough, it turns out that a few seconds after our cars stopped, Owen got out of his car. Then Grayson followed. I ended up getting out and even ran after Grayson.

"Fuck you, Grayson! Where are you taking Quinn? You want to kidnap her, huh!"

"Owen, stop making noise!" I yelled even when I hadn't gotten between them yet. Then after I arrived, I pushed Owen. I didn't do that because I was trying to protect Grayson, no. It was the opposite. It was the other way around. I just wanted Owen to stop acting stupid before Grayson lost his temper. I wanted to save him from the mess he was looking for.

"I have to come with you, Quinn. I have to make sure that he won't hurt you."

I looked back, seeing Grayson's ragged breathing and clenched hands. Then I saw Owen again. "Don't be crazy. I'm not a kid after all. I can call the police if he messes up. So stop being stupid and go home. Go back to your mansion and don't forget to lock the door if you don't want to get robbed."

After that I intended to take Grayson back to his car, however, he moved faster than I expected towards Owen, so by now he had grabbed Owen by the collar.

"If you are still trying to get in my way, don't blame me if I use a harsher method to stop you. And don't blame me if it affects your family business."

After saying that, Grayson took my hand gently and led me back to his car.

"I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable," he said later.

Not only that, he also made sure my seatbelt was fastened properly. And before he returned to his seat, his face stopped in front of mine. "After this I'm sure your trip to pick up Dylan will be smooth and safe."

I could only swallow my saliva without being able to reply again because my voice didn't come out.
