Chapter 54 Should I Trust Him?
Quinn's POV
I stepped on Grayson’s foot to make him let go of me, but it had no effect on him. “Signed or not, I'm sticking to my decision to stop being your therapist.”
“The document isn’t valid without both parties’ consent. You’re not at fault. So why quit?”
"Because you asked me to, Grayson! You said you no longer needed me as your therapist and you asked me to leave consciously. And now I'm gonna do it. Why are you stopping me? You've even met your fated mate, so go ahead and fulfill your superstition with her. I'm sure she'll satisfy you many times more than I ever could."
“Oh, so this is about Kelly? She’s not my fated mate.”
I couldn't hold back my laughter. Now even Grayson was denying reality. "It's not about Kelly or anyone else. It's about you, your words, and your own decisions, not about anyone else."
"No. I won't let you go." Grayson just hugged me. He completely engulfed my body in his big body, making it difficult for me to move.
"What are you doing! Do you want to hurt your fated mate's feelings if she sees us? Please, Grayson, I don't want to hurt another woman's feelings because I don't want to receive karma," I explained in frustration. I was really tired of dealing with this drama. I just wanted this problem to be over quickly so I could live peacefully again with Dylan. Even if I had to work at multiple places and take out loans, at least I wouldn't be haunted by guilt for sleeping with someone else's partner.
“What’s this ‘fated mate’ nonsense? I’ve told you Kelly isn’t my fated mate. She’s just my childhood friend.”
“But she was your first love, right?”
“Yes, that’s true!”
I closed my eyes. Even if what Grayson said was true about Kelly not being his fated mate, Kelly was still the first woman he ever loved. And that reality was hard for me to accept.
"Then consider it my reason for resignation. Because I don't want to hurt the woman who was your first love. Meet her, and also, if you meet your fated mate later, apologize to her because you made her wait until you had to stop at several women first."
“Alright, if you’re really curious about who my fated mate is, I’ll tell you.”
Oh, so Grayson already knew? So, even though he knew where his true partner was, he was still chasing me and Kelly? What a playboy!
Grayson, you’re such a jerk!
"Let me go or I'll scream!" I dare him. I hoped he would let me go because I was serious this time. I didn't care what everyone who heard my scream would think, as long as I could get away from this man who couldn't appreciate his partner.
“She’s here, very close to me and knows all my activities.”
So does that mean the woman has been watching him all this time? Crazy, Grayson has completely lost his mind. How could he still ask me to do 'service' to him and also flaunt his intimacy in public with Kelly? Doesn't he think about that woman's feelings? I'm really disappointed.
"Then what you have to do is stop her from leaving you. Because sooner or later, she will find out about what you did with me or with Kelly. And when that time comes, it may be too late to stop her from leaving."
I thought that after my long explanation, Grayson would finally understand. But it turned out he didn't. He only tightened his hug and buried his face in my shoulder.
“She already knows.”
“What the hell!”
“Watch your language.”
“Screw that. Do you even realize you’re really going to be finished, Grayson? You’ll regret it so much after she’s really gone from your life.”
“I won’t let that happen, Quinn,” he said. And he’s still hugging me? Are you kidding me!
“It’s impossible to stop someone who’s already broken-hearted from leaving. It’ll be pointless.”
“I don’t think it’s impossible because I can still hug her to stop her from leaving me.”
Huh? What did he mean? Who else was here besides us? And who else he’s hugging besides me—oh, don't tell me...
"She won't leave because I'm gonna apologize to her and I'm gonna beg her to stay by my side." Grayson moved his hand from around my shoulders to my waist. He placed his head, which had been on my shoulder, on top of my head.
"Quinn Blair Roux, you are the fated mate I meant. And I, your fated mate, apologize for all my mistakes and please, don't leave me because I could go crazy."
What I just heard wasn't a mistake? Then why, if it's true, he hides the truth and only tells me now? Why did he only admit it when I decided to leave his life?
Honestly, it seems even more obvious that Grayson is lying. That he only said it so I wouldn't leave and so I would be deceived like I was in the past.
Unfortunately, this time I'm not stupid anymore. I won't just believe what he says. I'm no longer the Quinn who was easily deceived and who easily believed someone who claimed that I was their true partner. So instead of being happy, I'm even more upset.
It seemed like Grayson was taking me for granted. It seemed like he thought that if he said that, I would immediately soften and forgive all his mistakes. In fact, he should know that was wrong. His thinking was wrong!
“Oh really? Wow! I’m so surprised.” That was my reaction. I didn’t want to take it too seriously.
“You don’t trust me, Quinn?”
“You see my face now? Do I look like someone who trusts you?”
"I'm not lying. From the first time I met you, I already knew. That's why I ended up trapping you as my therapist because I wanted to stay close to you. But I'm not lying about my superstition."
“Then why did I only tell you now? It’s because I was looking for the right moment. I waited until my power was greater than my parents’ so they couldn’t touch you. I hid you from the public because I wanted everyone to know at the right time. And when that time came, no one could touch our relationship. Not my parents or anyone else.”
I was forced to bite Grayson's chest as hard as I could so I could break free. Fortunately, this time I succeeded. Now Grayson was a few steps away from me. "You know, Grayson? What you said is the same as what Owen said in the past. When I first saw you, blah blah blah, he said the same thing. So don't expect me to believe you."
I bumped into Grayson’s shoulder because he wouldn’t move out of my way. Then I walked as fast as I could so he couldn’t stop me from leaving again.
