Chapter 12 Ex-Boyfriend
Quinn's POV
I left Grayson's penthouse building with mixed emotions.
At first my heart hurt. But then I felt regret because... where am I gonna find such a massive amount of money to pay Grayson back? Even saving up for a year wouldn't guarantee the 26 thousand dollars I've spent.
The contract also states that if I cancel the contract one-sided, then I have to pay a penalty. Not to mention the bonus I received must be returned, it only makes my balance more minus.
Oh goodness, what should I do now?
I'm so frustrated. I messed up everything with my temporary emotion. What Grayson had said about my home and my salary was actually true. It was just that I took offense to his cold, piercing tone like he was mocking me.
But that doesn't mean Grayson is completely innocent. He's wrong on some of the words he said.
As if to support my gloom, it suddenly started raining. On this sunny day, it seems like only my heart is longing.
Heck, I quickly ran to the nearest bus stop to avoid my clothes being soaked. I also had to go to the S-T arena to do my job, and cancel my part-time job because it was too late.
And so, I sat all alone while waiting for a bus to arrive. To burn time, I checked the latest news.
In some of the news, it talked about the Frost Maple team's game this week. It would be their second game this month. And this week, there were two games in total, on Thursday and Sunday.
Which means, I have to do my job to fulfill Grayson's superstition. I have to get back at him. Since I still do not own the 26 thousand dollars.
But the problem is, how do I have any face to meet Grayson again after I told him not to beg me?
It's like I'm the one who rejected him but I'm also the one who came to him in the end.
I yelled inwardly. It had been the second time my emotions had gotten me into such a situation. And now I was repeating it again.
I can even imagine Grayson's expression if I came to tell him that everything I said was just a short temper and I didn't really want to terminate the contract. He will definitely laugh his ass off with a crooked smile and say: you can't live without me because now I'm your financial resource.
Ugh. Just imagining it makes me sick.
"Quinnderella?"
I suddenly stopped stomping and looked around to find the owner of the voice.
Turns out, there's a very familiar black car in front of me as well as the driver.
"It's really you, Quinnderella."
And only one person called me like that. It had to be Owen Willow Drew, an Alpha werewolf and also my ex-boyfriend.
Seeing him about to get off, I hurriedly moved from my seat and walked away from the bus stop.
I kept walking without looking to the side even though he's following me in his car.
Of all the places in this world and of all the people I could meet, why did I have to see him again, though!
I've been sick of him ever since that moment where he dumped me when he finally met his fated mate. He'd even lied since our first meeting that I was his fated mate but then when he met his real fated mate, he just cut me off as if I never existed in his life.
He's such an asshole. That's why I didn't want to deal with him anymore and cut off all contact with him. And for the sake of it, he popped up again in a situation like this.
I'm so unlucky today as I have to deal with two unpleasant men.
"Where are you going?" he asked quite loudly.
I ignored him. I kept walking straight.
"I'll drive you."
I still didn't answer him.
"You'll get sick from the rain. Get in the car. I just wanna help you, seriously. There's no other motive."
I finally stop because I have to cross the street.
I gave Owen a flat look. "I also seriously don't want to deal with you anymore."
"I was wrong that time. I was a real jerk. That's why I kept looking for you to apologize. Honestly, it was hard to see you again even though we live in the same city. But this day finally came." He then opened his car door, came out with an umbrella, and stopped in front of me.
"Quinn, I sincerely apologized for everything."
I gave a bitter chuckle. "After ditching me out of the blue for that fated mate of yours? I don't even know if it's really your fated mate or not."
"Yes, everything you said is true. I won't argue."
He suddenly kneels in front of me. That made me reflexively turn around, checking whether there were people watching us or not. And it turned out to be a lot.
So I hurriedly pulled Owen to stand up again. "You're just going to embarrass me. If you have something to say, let's talk about it in your car."
"Sure. I'll carry your bag." Without my consent, Owen took over my bag and my umbrella. Now we only shared one umbrella and he tilted it more towards me.
"Be careful," he said, putting his hand on the car door as I was about to get in.
After that he ran, rolling over to the driver's seat.
Meanwhile I just looked straight ahead while wiping excess rainwater off my shirt when suddenly a hand reached out in front of me.
For a moment, I froze.
Owen's face is now so close to mine with his hands on the right and left side of my body, like someone about to kiss.
I even held my breath until he moved back to his place.
"You forgot the seatbelt," he said later, clarifying.
I finally breathe a sigh of relief.
I honestly thought Owen was going to kiss me. And I prepared to hit him if he did, for real.
"You've moved in now?"
"Huh?" I asked dryly.
Owen rubbed the back of his neck. "Because for all I know it's not your neighborhood or where you work. So I guess you live there now."
I hurriedly shook my head. "I only have a few things to do around there. I don't live there."
"So where exactly are you going?"
I sighed and turned my face to the side, staring out the window. "Going to work."
"Where?"
"S-T Arena."
"Frost Maple team's homebase?"
"Why are you surprised?" I asked probingly. Because Owen suddenly rounded his eyes, as he always did when something surprised him.
"Today is my first day working there as Chief Legal Officer."
Now I was the one shocked.
I wasn't surprised by his job, but I was surprised why it had to be Frost Maple of all teams!
Owen did come from a family with a law background. He also majored in law in high school until he earned his doctorate. But just why must he be on the same team as me?
That's what I was complaining about.
"So you work as a therapist for the Frost Maple team?"
It was honestly a difficult question.
If I answered that I didn't work for the team but for one player only, and then Owen found out about the player who hired me, Owen would probably assume that I had more than just a coworker relationship with Grayson. Especially since Owen has already seen me around Grayson's place.
But if I lied, it wouldn't take long for Owen to find out. If it wasn't Grayson who told him, it would probably be the general manager or the staff and players.
So I finally shook my head. "I work for Grayson, player number 17. That's why you saw me at the bus stop earlier. Because I was treating him."
Owen suddenly slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a sudden stop. He then looked at me in surprise. "That famous player? Grayson Talon? He called you to his house?"
I nodded assuredly and firmly. "He accidentally fell down after taking a shower. So he asked me to check on him. Luckily it wasn't a serious injury. I've also treated him. He's fine now."
