Chapter 159
Zairiel
It may have been *the* night, but I knew tonight wasn’t **my** night…. I don’t know how, but the feeling of the mate bond told me that my mate was somewhere else. Ste lives, but off world…. Somewhere.
I’ve looked too however it didn’t bear any fruit. Once the connection turns gray, I can’t see where it leads.
So I’m the one who’s not ready…damn.
When will I be? I thought I was *enough.*
“Your mate is either very much above you, or very much below.” Said father. “Either way, you must wait until the time is right.”
“…. I hate this.” I admitted.
“I know. I felt the same way waiting for your mother.” He said shaking his horns. “We’re here.”
The heat from this world as we floated above it would have Melted any other. The mortals here are made of fire and magic.
They exist through impossibility, and should they land on a magicless world… They would be extinguished unless they resided in an active volcano or something.
I felt my body relax…. Power is a bit intoxicating. I need to be careful so I don’t smoosh anybody.
“How do I do this?” I asked.
“Figure it out.” He said with a grin, the one he does when he’s up to no good!
Asshole!
“Please master, I beg your forgiveness!” Bowed Apolis, Eternya’s father. “The little ones on my world thought I not fair.. and trried to summon you… They Summoned…. *Her*…. How *Furious* she was…”
His begging was stupid.
I read his mind.
Zohlliba was gonna kill them all over a damn book, oh gods damn it….
“Ok… Ok… So first, I need to warm the planet, fix its rotation, And warm the core right?”
I also need to spin the core because everything is fucking spinning all the time at Different rates to keep the balance… I shook my horns.
“And?” Said father. Apolis was Ignored.
“Oh and the atmosphere.” I double checked the console to look at any other alerts.
To fix it too fast will sunder the world with an earthquake… So that’s out…
Warming it with my fire may melt them. They may be heat and magic, but they are still mortal… there will be a limit on how hot even they can get.
Cheats are disabled with Alexis.
“Ha, nice try kid.” Chuckled dad.
“…Uh… it’ll take a few thousand years, but I fixed the rotation…. Your lava world’s gonna have an ice age, but I undid her curse.” I said as he looked honestly grateful.
“Thank you young master! Not only did my little ones learn a lesson, but they won’t all die for it.” He bowed and left…. He was terrified I came to rub salt in the proverbial wound.
“Don’t thank me just yet.” I said with crossed arms.
\[Alignment Success! Threat removed.\] Beamed Alexis. \[Loss of life: 0.00001%\]
At least she didn’t harm the actual planet, or this would have been Really hard.
“I doubt this world will summon any Night Court, being a Light owned planet. Good work. Father’s already pissed that he lost his hold on this one, but there are plenty of magic, elemental worlds.” Said dad casually, but I wasn’t…
“Yeah, but I don’t want to short grandfather. It’s twice now that I’ve ruined his plans.” I mumbled…. “Apolis this world now belongs to the Night Court. Tribute to my grandfather, for his wrath is kindled.”
“That is more than fair. They kindled the Night’s ire; nobody had to save them.” He summoned the deed. “Through my inaction, they offended the Night Court… by my hubris I made their situation worse when I tried fixing it… I will miss them, but you are noble.”
I dismissed him.
I teleported to grandfather’s throne room.
Instead of yelling at me, he clapped.
“I would have never thought to justly claim that world. Honestly, saving them in the first place didn’t cross my mind.” He said as the deed floated to him. “You have done what my influence has not. For that, I will offer a crumb when the time has passed that you must seek out your little butterfly. She flutters somewhere beyond these old eyes… but that the thread is vibrant, means she is well.”
I bowed. “If there be a single crumb master, I will follow.” I vowed this…
“For now, you do enough. Go have your party my blood.” He waved me away.
To be honest, I did go to my territory. On my planet, the fields were deep in the dead of winter. It looked like a postcard out there… and from the inside of my cozy log cabin, all decorated nicely because of my sisters, I almost felt nostalgic.
This place reminds me of grandpa Time’s place.
Mom and dad by now were likely celebrating the fact that all their children are out the nest. Zohlliba will live in Arviel’s castle, and Zulliba will live in father’s…. Nothing will change for them.
For me, I chose to live off world on my unnamed planet… Everyone names their planet after themselves, and the suffix matters….
I like the idea of magic on my planet… Zaipiter. Stupid, but about the best I can do. I don’t *want* to cultivate it after all. I put it into the console, and put on Nightflix. Dezster is pretty fucking good. This version of it doesn’t peter out after 3 or 4 seasons.
In this one, he’s a fucking shark shifter! He was raised by his headhunter father, who trained him to go after evil humans.
I went to the fridge and so far I know how to pan fry my meat now, so at least I didn’t salt bomb myself… I had a nice shot of Tarteron Blackoak aged Burbon AND Haven White Whiskey. The Haven wine and burvon would probably taste bad…
Mixing the two looked Cool as Fuck. The Tartaron Burbon sinks to the bottom, black as night, while the White floats, and smells like marshmallows. It’s crystal clear.
Oh… this is what ‘drunk’ feels like.
They did tell me to sit down after doing my plan… and I did. I watched Nightflix and had venison, alone and missing my mate, but… at least it was interesting. Seeing the abundance of game in the winter made me proud… I picked a really good world. There will be no want for anything come time to have my own kids….
Damn.
Someone knocked.
“There is no lock..” I shouted, and grandfather time came as an old man. He doesn’t turn blue unless he’s home. I never asked why; I just assumed it’s because he’s also a dragon.
“I heard about your actions.” He said with a soft smile. “I also brought cookies to warm your home, but you already look a little flushed.”
“I’ll take the cookies And the company.” I said honestly.
He put the cardboard box on the dining table, and we shared some cookies and he summoned, and poured himself the same shot I made.
“I knew you’d be here alone while everyone else is either asleep or drunk from the fest.” He chuckled. “Why didn’t you come to me?”
“Grandfather why would I bother you?” I asked seriously. “This is something I’m meant to do or whatever… I didn’t want to burden you with my melancholy mood.”
He gave me a ‘are you stupid’ look, but he sighed. “Son you try too hard to be a lone wolf, but lone wolves either find a pack, or lose their minds chasing a trail for one.”
“But most wolves are alone to seek their chance at something more…” I mumbled.
“Aye. But I’m here.” He said with a light smile.
I knew I wasn’t alone, but this is something meant for myself… And oddly enough I saw a red feathered velociraptor by himself in the snow. A young one, forging his own path, likely in between packs. That one had some cool ass tiger stripes…he was also pretty big for a male, and if he makes it, I bet he’ll lead that pack that runs around here come spring.
“That one looks unique.” He pointed. “But even he must walk the path all young bucks do.”
He was right… but most don’t get their patron’s blessing…. I gave him a little luck, just a 10% increase, but that should be enough for him to make it… Let him try and fail on his own merits… Let his fate be off his shoulders a *little* bit.
“That one is going to go places.” I mumbled.
“Then this winter on your planet, stay a while and watch the life here. Don’t go into this as a learning lesson either. Just enjoy yourself, the peace, and the quiet.” He patted my shoulder, and I did while we shared a meal and Nightflix.
