Chapter 169 Epilogue: Reborn to Reclaim My Voice.
Epilogue: Reborn to Reclaim My Voice.

Qiara’s POV

Three Years Later

The final note faded beneath my fingertips. For one breathless second, I heard nothing.

Then...

The world erupted.

Thousands of voices thundered through the Summer Festival arena as I slowly rose from the piano. Lights swept over an endless sea of faces. Hands clapped above heads. People screamed my name while others held signs high enough for me to read from the stage.

ARI PHOENIX SAVED MUSIC!

THE AVIANS FOREVER!

OUR SONGBIRD!

ARI + JULEZ = TRUE LOVE!

That last one made me smile. My chest rose and fell as I tried to catch my breath.

Three years.

It had been exactly three years since I stood beneath an arch in the middle of a city Julius Pierre had actually rented for our wedding and promised to find him in every lifetime.

Three years since I became his wife. Three years of waking beside the boy I had once held onto in the darkness. And somehow, life had only become more beautiful.

I looked around at my band. Jackie was wiping sweat from her forehead, grinning. Raymond lifted his guitar toward the crowd. Felix twirled his drumsticks. While Milo and Mickie were ready to work the keys. Shelly and Keena waved toward the screaming fans while the others moved around the stage preparing for our next number.

My family. My Avians.

We had performed on nearly every continent now. Sold out arenas. Broken records. Won awards I once couldn't have imagined touching.

But standing there tonight, none of that was what filled my heart. What overwhelmed me was everything that had happened between the performances.

Life. Real life.

The kind I once thought had been stolen from me forever.

Gretchen and David had welcomed twins into the world the year after Julius and I married. Two tiny bundles of chaos who somehow possessed Gretchen's stubbornness and David's talent for getting away with absolutely anything.

The Pierre family continued growing too.

Julius's brothers and their wives had added more babies to an already enormous family, turning every Pierre holiday into a beautiful disaster of children running through hallways, grandparents giving entirely too much sugar, and someone inevitably crying because another child had stolen their toy.

Charlese adored every second of it. So did I. There had been a time when the word family made something inside me hurt. Now? Family dinners required several tables.

Christian and Veronica had welcomed their first child safely and were now expecting another. Watching my brother become a father had healed something in me I never knew still needed healing. He wasn't perfect. Neither was I. But he was present. Patient. Gentle.

And every time I watched him crouch down to kiss his child or place his hand over Veronica's growing stomach, I saw the man he had decided to become instead of the boy our family had trained him to be.

Alex and Kimberly had gotten married only months ago.

That wedding had been considerably smaller than mine—which Kimberly repeatedly blamed on Julius for “destroying realistic wedding expectations for the entire Western Continent.”

Their happiness had been quieter than ours. But no less beautiful.

And Jack...Jack surprised everyone.

After expanding Galaxy's experimental music-video division into a full global entertainment company, he moved back to Novell. Later he told us he really wanted to rebuild a relationship with his brother.

Something I understood more than anyone.

Galaxy Music Visuals was now the highest-rated music-video production company in the world.

What started as an idea had transformed the industry. Artists didn't simply release songs anymore. They built worlds around them. Short films. Musical stories. Visual albums.

And because Jack had never forgotten why we'd started fighting in the first place, young musicians retained more ownership, creative freedom, and control than artists from my previous life would have believed possible.

Music itself had changed. After HOC acquired ICOH, our music house became the largest label in the world. But strangely enough, that wasn't the part that made me proudest. The others flourished too.

Starlight. The smaller regional houses. Independent labels. New houses built by musicians who had once been ignored.

For the first time, the music industry stopped behaving like success belonged to one family, one company, or one region.

We competed. Of course we did. Sometimes viciously. But we also collaborated. Shared artists. Supported tours. Cross-promoted young musicians.

And when one label discovered a voice that didn't fit its own style, instead of burying them...they sent that artist somewhere they could flourish. We had built something music had never truly possessed before.

Community.

The BMH Awards expanded into a worldwide event. Soon, other continents followed with awards of their own.

Classical. Opera. Contemporary. Alternative. Instrumental. Songwriting. Production. Every corner of music finally had somewhere to belong.

And Ari Phoenix & The Avians?

We were still here. Still performing. Still creating. Still somehow breaking records. And now, when I looked at the charts and saw HOC artists dominating beside musicians from competing houses, I didn't feel threatened.

I felt proud. Because that was the world I wanted.

A world where another little girl with a song in her heart wouldn't have to become invisible just because someone powerful decided another person deserved her dream more.

PST had transformed too.

The nano technology Julius and Alex helped develop changed medicine almost overnight. Successful nerve reconstruction led to breakthroughs neither of them had initially imagined.

Alex was eventually promoted to President of one of PST's medical technology branches, a title he pretended wasn't a big deal while Kimberly told anyone who would listen that her husband was changing modern medicine.

PST became bigger than even the Pierres anticipated.

And HOC remained firmly in the hands of the Pierre women. Charlese. Charlotte. Teresa. Maggie. Aunt Stacy. Gretchen. Kimberly.

The women who had welcomed me into their lives and somehow transformed a company into a family.

Charlese occasionally toured now. Not constantly. Only when she wanted. Whenever she sat behind a piano, audiences still went silent. Sometimes I joined her. Sometimes I stood in the wings and watched. Because watching Mama Char play again never stopped feeling miraculous.

Not everything became beautiful. Some endings were simply consequences.

Marcus remained in prison. Nearly a year ago, I received a letter from him. I almost threw it away. Instead, one night while Julius slept beside me, I opened it.

Qiara,

I have rewritten this letter more times than I can count because every version sounded like I was asking you to forgive me.

I'm not.

I don't deserve to ask that of you.

There is no apology large enough for what I did. I was supposed to be your brother. Instead, I became one of the people who taught you that home wasn't safe.

For years, I blamed everyone except myself. Dad. Mom. Angelina. You. I told myself I was protecting the family. That I was doing what needed to be done. The truth is uglier.

I liked being powerful.

I liked being needed.

And when protecting Angelina required hurting you, I chose the person who made me feel important over the sister who had never done anything except exist.

I don't know whether there is enough time in my life to understand how I became that person.

Maybe there isn't.

But there is one thing I need you to know.

What happened to you was never because you weren't worthy of love.

It happened because we were too selfish, too cowardly, and too broken to give you what you deserved.

You were always the talented one.

You were always the brave one.

You were always our sister.

We failed you.

I failed you.

I heard one of your songs on the radio here last week. Everyone knew the words.

For the first time, I didn't feel angry.

I cried.

Because I remembered that little girl who used to sing around the house before we taught her to stop.

I'm sorry, Qiara.

Not because I lost my freedom.

Because I helped steal yours.

I hope the rest of your life gives back everything we took.

Marcus.

I never responded. Maybe one day I would. Maybe I wouldn't. Healing didn't always require reopening every door. Nicholas found something resembling peace. Somehow, Tika found her way back to him. They married quietly. They now had a child. He and Christian were rebuilding their relationship slowly, and Nicholas had made attempts with me too.

I wasn't ready.

But I wasn't running anymore either. I had promised myself I would take forgiveness one step at a time. Some days I managed one. Some days I didn't. Both were okay.

Angelina remained incarcerated.

According to Christian, she was still angry. Still resentful. Still convinced that I had destroyed her life. Perhaps she always would. But her anger no longer belonged to me. That might have been the greatest freedom of all.

Lawrence moved to another part of the Western Continent after everything ended. Nobody heard much from him anymore. Selene went south. She wanted to be closer to Christian. Their relationship remained complicated, but she was trying. For once, I let that be their story.

Melinda and Marina expanded the Carrington company, transforming it into something far stronger than Derrick ever managed.

They were also raising Davian. Desmond and Angelina's son. An innocent child born into a legacy of mistakes that had nothing to do with him. Melinda adored him. So did Marina.

Derrick and Dylan were eventually arrested on fraud charges. After their release, they disappeared with Lorna to Derrick and Lorna's hometown. No one heard much from them afterward.

And then there was us.

Ari and Julez.

Three years of marriage. Three years of waking up and choosing each other. Three years of laughter in the kitchen. Arguments that ended in conversations instead of cruelty. Anniversaries. Late-night studio sessions where Julius fell asleep on the couch waiting for me. Business trips where I somehow ended up hidden beneath his jacket because neither of us wanted the cameras following us.

Sunday mornings. Family dinners. Quiet nights. Slow kisses. Long embraces after difficult days. Love. Not dramatic love. Not painful love. Not the kind that required suffering to prove itself. Just...love. Steady. Warm. Safe. The kind I once thought existed only in songs.

And tonight was our anniversary.

My eyes moved toward the family skybox. There he was. Julius stood at the front railing. My husband. My Julez. Three years hadn't changed the way he looked at me. If anything, it had gotten worse.

His brothers surrounded him. Charlese and Jamerson were there. My grandparents. Alex and Kimberly. Jack. Gretchen and David. Victor. Christian stood beside Veronica with one hand resting against her stomach.

Everyone I loved. Everyone who stayed. Everyone who became part of the life I never knew I would have. The opening notes of our next song began.

I lifted my microphone.

“Before we do this next one...” The audience screamed. I smiled. “This is a special night for me.”

More cheers.

“Three years ago tonight, I married my best friend.”

The camera immediately found Julius. His face appeared across the enormous screens. The arena exploded. He laughed and shook his head. My eyes burned.

“This song is for the man who loved me before either of us understood what love meant.”

Julius became still.

“For the boy who remembered my voice long after the world tried to silence it.”

My throat tightened.

“And for my husband...who has spent every day since reminding me that I never have to fight for his love.”

I looked directly at him.

“Happy anniversary, baby.”

His hand pressed over his heart. The music swelled. And I sang. I sang for the boy in the cave. For the man at the audition. For the impossible marriage proposal. For every night he held me. For every morning I woke beside him.

For us.

The Avians joined me, and together we gave the crowd everything we had. When the final note faded, the arena roared. I stood there breathing heavily.

Smiling.

Then I remembered the little secret hidden beneath the loose fabric of my stage costume. My heart began pounding. Jackie looked at me. She knew. Her smile trembled.

I lifted the microphone again.

“One more thing.” The crowd slowly quieted. I looked toward Julius. “Julez...?”

His eyebrows rose. I smiled through tears.

“Ready to share our anniversay present?”

The audience laughed softly.

Julius mouthed:

I love you!

My hand moved to my stomach. For a second...the entire arena fell silent.

And then...my jacket opened.

The entire skybox erupted. And then the arena realized. The sound was deafening. I laughed as tears poured down my cheeks.

“Baby Pierre is on the way!”

Julius's face crumpled. He was crying. My beautiful, impossible husband stood surrounded by our family, staring at me like the entire universe had just been placed into his hands.

And suddenly, I remembered another version of myself.

Twenty years old. Sitting in a bedroom. Terrified. Confused. Alive when she should have been dead.

I remembered staring at my phone.

February 19th, 2025.

I remembered realizing I had been given another chance. Back then, I thought I knew why. Revenge. Justice. Freedom. I wanted to reclaim everything they took. And I did.

But standing beneath those lights, one hand over the life growing inside me, I finally understood something.

My rebirth was never only about reclaiming what belonged to me. It was about discovering what could still become mine.

A career. A family. Friendship. Forgiveness. Peace. A husband who had loved me across years, distance, darkness, and two lifetimes.

And now...

A child. My child would never wonder whether they were wanted. Never have to earn their place at our table. Never have to shrink so someone else could shine. They would grow up surrounded by music.

By laughter. By grandparents and cousins and aunties and uncles. By a father who would undoubtedly spoil them senseless. And by a mother who knew exactly how precious it was to be heard.

I looked around at the crowd. Thousands of people were chanting my name. Once, I had died believing my voice didn't matter. Now the world was singing it back to me.

Ari.

Ari.

Ari.

I lifted my face toward the lights and closed my eyes. For just a moment, I imagined my mom and dad.

Queenie and Oliver Stone. Somewhere beyond this life, smiling with the very Gods that blessed me with this second chance.

Look, Mama. Look, Daddy...I made it.

I had been the unwanted daughter. The forgotten sister. The stolen songwriter. The hidden heiress. The dead songbird.

But those were chapters. They were never the whole story. Because death had returned me to the beginning.

And when life gave me another chance...

I chose myself. I reclaimed my name. I reclaimed my future. I reclaimed my family. I reclaimed my heart.

But most importantly...I reclaimed my voice.

I opened my eyes. Julius was already running toward the stage. My laughter blended with the roar of the crowd. And as my Julez came for me once again, I smiled.

Because this time...

I wasn't being reborn. I was simply living.

And Gods...

What a beautiful life it had become.

REBORN TO RECLAIM MY VOICE.

THE END.
