Chapter 52 052.
Alyssa

The car pulled up to the big hotel where the ceremony was being held as soon as the door opened the noise hit me.

Flashing lights.

Shouting voices.

A wall of paparazzi.

It made my stomach twist, I wasn’t used to this sort of attention and it was going to take a while before I get accustomed.

"Ms. White! Over here!"

"Alyssa! Are you back as CEO for good?"

"Is it true you're cutting affairs Damon Johnson's company?"

I froze for a second blinded by the lights but Ares strong arm wrapped firmly around my waist, he pulled me close tucking me against his side using his own body to shield me from the worst of the crowd to which I was greatful for.

What will I do without Ares these days?

"Keep walking," he murmured his voice a low command in my ear. "Don't stop and don’t answer them."

He pushed forward a solid force moving us through the pile of people as I kept my head down letting him guide me.

The questions kept coming but they sounded muffled and far away with his warmth it’s felt like everyone had blurred away.

We finally made it through the main doors after what felt like forever and into the quiet cool lobby as the noise from outside was instantly gone.

Ares loosened his grip but kept a hand on my back. "I'll be around the room if you need anything just I'm here." Then he melted into the crowd becoming just another guest.

I took a deep breath smoothing down my dress and almost immediately Marcus was at my side.

"Ms. White" he said looking relieved to see me. "There are several people here who have been waiting for your arrival, they’re very eager to discuss business now that you are back in charge."

"Of course," I said putting on a professional smile. "Lead the way."

For the next hour I talked business I shook hands and smiled mostly fake smiles that my cheeks were beginning to hurt.

We discusse about the future of White Enterprises but my mind kept drawing off, uninterested as I let Marcus do most of the talking.

I let out a breath deciding to get a glass of water to calm my nerves, I excused myself. "Please excuse me for a moment," I said to the group I was with.

Part of me felt like I needed to find Ares just to see him to feel that strange sense of calm he gave me.

I was walking towards the balcony when a voice stopped me.

"Alyssa."

I turned.

It was Rachel.

She was standing there her arms crossed her face a mask of the usual pure hate and anger she had always had towards me.

What now?

I was in no mood for drama.

"Can we talk? Over there in the corner?" she asked her voice sharp.

I was tired.

I didn't want to do this but I also didn't want to run from her or cause a scene here, "Fine," I said and followed her to a quieter corner of the room.

As soon as we were away from everyone she turned on me. "You need to stop," she hissed.

"Stop what exactly?" I asked my voice bored.

"You are getting in the way of my daddy and my mummy!" she said her voice getting louder sounding like a four year old "They were happy before you came in between the two of them, you’re a homewrecker and I don’t know why you’re trying to break up my family!"

I almost laughed. "I am a homewrecker? You were the one sleeping with my husband for years you even had a child with him. You are the one who wrecked my home."

"That was different!" she yelled. "Damon never loved you, he loved me! But my father... he loves my mother and you are standing in their way You are nothing but a gold-digging slut who can't let go of our family… so whatever it is that is going on between you and my father, I want you to end it”

Ares told me he was divorced and even though it didn’t matter cause my relationship with him had no strings attached.

We have fun fucking each other but we’ve never put a tag on it and although Ares claims me as his, there is still no romantic connection between the two of us.

She stepped closer her finger pointing at my face snapping me out of my train of thoughts "And again, you cut off Damon's company when there was no need for that and I know are trying to ruin him, You are a bitter evil woman that likes destroying peoples lives! You are not suppose to be mixing personal feeling with professional ones.”

I still didn’t say anything letting her talk.

She hissed in annoyance, “You are the only thing standing in the way of my parents getting back together, I don’t know what you’ve done to my father but whatever it is, please I beg of you just stop…”

Her words were like poison but they didn't hurt me anymore.

They just made me tired.

"Are you finished?" I asked my voice cold.

"I’m warning you Alyssa, stay away from my family… I don’t care that you have so much money now," she whispered , her eyes full of tears of hate. "I will make sure you regret ever coming back if you don’t stay out of my way."

She turned and stormed away leaving me standing alone in the corner I took a deep breath.

The annoyance was there a cold fire in my stomach but I tried as much to controlled it, pushing it down.

Her words kept ringing in my head.

I didn’t want to be a homewrecker and Ares had lied to me, if he still wanted his wife then why would he lie to me that he is divorced.

Maybe I am a homewrecker… and I needed to end whatever it is that is between Ares and I.
