Chapter 9
Hera's POV
My eyes widen in shock and so does his silver blue ones. I cannot help but marvel at how magical and mysterious his eyes are. They have a kind of depth that hold so much mystery. They are not as cold as they look from a distance.
"What the actual fuck?" Brianna's shocked cuss breaks me from my trance and I jump off Baek's body, getting on my feet. Baek mirrors my action and dusts invincible specks of dust off his body. He stares at me unbelievably.
"Oh my God. Did you just kiss the new transfer student, Hera?" Miranda, one of Brianna's minions chuckle behind me.
"You sly slut." Another girl backs her and laugh.
"I.. I'm sorry." I ignore the girls and apologize to Baek who doesn't reply. He keeps staring at me with a kind of expression on his face that I cannot decipher.
He obviously cannot believe he got kissed by a lame nerd like me. The whole students are staring at me, including Shawn who immediately looks away as our eyes lock, as if trying to unsee the whole scene. It isn't as though I expected some kind of jealousy reaction from him. He never cared about me anyway. I feel my cheeks heat pink in embarrassment and I gulp down dried saliva down my throat.
Makayla rushes towards me and checks my body for any sign of injury. Her forehead is creased with worry.
"Hera. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." I turn my back against everyone and pick up my pace, quickly exiting the scene. Behind me, Baek's team rejoice for their victory.
"Hey, hold up." Makayla hurries after me and holds me back by the wrist. "Your knees. They're bleeding."
I look down to my knees to see the bruise I had sustained from my fall. But none of it matters to me. All I want so bad right now, is to leave and save my face from the embarrassment.
"Come on. Let me treat it."
Makayla pulls me towards a tree before I even had the chance to argue. We sit under a fig tree while Makyala tends to my wound.
"How can you be so careless? Thank goodness it wasn't a dislocation." Makayla scolds me as she treats my wound with the help of a small first aid inside of her backpack. I did not reply, too drained to utter a single word.
From a distance, I see Jacob jog towards us.
"Hera are you alright?" He gives me a sorry look and I take a small smile in return.
"I'm okay."
"You don't mind if I steal your bestie for a minute, do you ?"
"No not at all."
"Are you sure you'll be okay?" Makayla has a reluctant look face.
"Hey, it's just a fall. Not a car crash or something that serious. I'm fine."
"Okay." She gives me a closed mouth smile and a tap on the back. I can tell that leaving me is the last thing she wants to do. But if there's one thing I hate most, it is keeping the love birds apart.
"See you in class." She adds before taking Jacob's hand and returning to the field with him.
A short while later, I get on my feet and limp back into the hallway, stopping by my locker to get a book. I shut the locker again and turn to leave but stop to my feet as I see Shawn approach my direction. I wonder if he is approaching me or passing by me.
I try to move my feet again and walk away but his voice stops me from doing so.
"Hera. Hey."
Wait. Did he just speak to me? Is this supposed to be some kind of dream?
"Uh…hi?"
Why is he talking to me? I didn't think he'd ever speak to me again after what happened at that party.
"Can I talk to you for a second?"
My eyes search into his chestnut brown eyes. "Why?"
"I'm not going to take more than a minute. I promise."
"I don't know, Shawn. I'm kinda in a hurry." All I want to do is escape this conversation and his presence.
"About that party I want to apologize…"
"It's okay. You don't have to apologize for anything. It's totally cool." I cut in before he could finish his sentence.
"It's not, Hera. I…" I cut him halfway again. I think I should leave now. It's all in the past. We're cool." I turn my back against him and walk faster than usual. I almost bump into Brianna as I try to escape from Shawn.
"Hey watch it" She hisses in a venomous tone. I ignore her and walk ahead. With the overwhelmingly spiraling emotions going on in my head, I bet I'd knock Brianna's teeth out if I paid the slightest attention to her.
And embarrassing myself more than I have today is the worst thing I could ever think of.
Now, everyone knows me as the 'sly slut' who had kissed the new, hot transfer student. Just kill me already.
