Chapter 96

Right in the heart of Romulus outskirts, inside the mansion, was a throne room where Malachi sat. The man whose soul was as dark as the devil, his hands which had wrung necks held a glass of wine that he sipped slowly while he sat on the throne. He placed his foot on the footstool, leaned back, and enjoyed the silence of the room. He sat in the throne room alone, his dark eyes staring at nothing in particular. He ran his left hand through his luscious dark hair while playing with the glass of wine.

It was doomsday, even the clouds were dark in Romulus because it was about to witness one of the great magical wars written in history. Was Malachi prepared for this? Of course, he was the king. He has the power, and the moment he gets his hands on Delphine then he would be on top of this world.

Although he was bold, a sense of fear was still held in his heart. His mind wasn’t stable as he kept thinking about what Delphine would do the moment she took back her throne. People would respect her, she has the strongest magic there is. She could do anything.

No, he won’t let that happen, he will never allow Delphine to take over the throne he has painstakingly gotten. He was going to kill her, suck those powers away from her, and rule over Romulus. He would win this war, he would fight and he would be the strongest werewolf ever lived.

His pride wouldn’t let him think about the fact that there is a possibility that Delphine might have an edge over him. He will cut down her left arm, which is her mate, and when she is feeling that excruciating pain, he will take everything that’s hers. When the time is right, he will then push his magic straight into her heart, he will kill her mercilessly.

As they say, if a cat catches the mouse, it won’t kill it immediately.

Malachi laughed, he laughed so hard, his laughter echoing inside the empty room.

The servants who heard his laughter could not help but walk faster as they had felt chills down their spine. Who doesn’t fear Malachi? Everyone does. No one could look him in the eyes as they needed to protect themselves. Not everyone served him, but they had to. He ruled over everyone with an iron fist. Even his advisors feared him. With the power of the gem and the witch staff, Malachi was unstoppable.

Malachi took in a deep breath, savoring the magnificent smell of power and furniture, basking in his glory. He was a proud man, he was strong and he sees himself as the strongest of them all. Who dares challenge him? He sipped the last droplets from his cup.

A moment after, a henchman walked in, he knelt on one knee, his head bowed as a sign of respect. “Your majesty, the troops are ready for departure. They are waiting for your words and blessing to send forth.”

Malachi’s head swelled with pride, he would never get tired of the fact that he was stingy and ruled over everyone. He walked out with boldness, his head held high. Standing on the balcony, he looked at the troops that had gathered below to listen to him. Malachi felt like he was greater than god, he was ready to take over everyone. Once he broke the spell that prevented him from entering Romulus, he would be great.

“My people. Soldiers, fathers who have left their families to come to help me take over, I welcome you all. You are fulfilling a great duty, one that people would remember for generations to come. The moment we win; would be the moment we shine. Romulus and Bloodmoon pack would completely be ours. We would be among the strongest pack across the world, everyone would fear us, they would fear our name. The moment of victory starts now” he smiled then added, “To glory!”

“To glory!” Everyone cheered.

Malachi grinned, his eyes wrinkling at the side.

“That was a great speech, sir” the henchman who stood beside him said.

“Stop sucking up to me. It will only get you killed,” Malachi replied as he put on his coat. Malachi knew no one liked him, even the ones that were following him to war just wanted to satisfy their selfish interest. Some were people who had stayed by his side out of respect and the power he holds. Some were people that vowed to follow him from a long time ago. The henchman was a trainee, no one had told him about these rules. He gulped, promising to never say anything again in his life.

After this, the journey began. Malachi on his high horse followed behind thousands of troops of shoulders as they marched towards the bloodmoon pack.

It will take three days for them to officially arrive at the vast land of the bloodmoon pack, tents have been carried, and hunters who were to hunt for meals were there. Especially when a storm hit them on the second day. Still, they marched on, whereas Malachi enjoyed the feeling of being carried around by his people. This power he held was something he did not want to give away that easily, so he would fight tooth and nail with Delphine as long as she did not get the throne. Sometimes he would change into his wolf so that he could feel the fresh air against his fur.

Nothing beats the natural breeze.

A few more soldiers are already ahead and close to the Bloodmoon pack. Everyone was ready to fight, even though they knew they might lose their life, they did not give up.

….

In Bloodmoon pack, Delphine stood at the edge of the forest, as she watched Ruby lead the children, pregnant ladies, mothers, elderly and sick leave the pack towards a safe underground house in the forest. Delphine’s eyes had teared up when she saw the way one of the male soldiers found it hard to let go of his pregnant mate. It wasn’t easy to let go when they knew the chance of survival might be below.

Delphine wished for all these problems to come to an end soon. She wants them to win this war against her uncle. She felt helpless, she wished there was a way to use her powers to save everyone but she can’t seem to ignite that spark. Ever since she lost Lila due to Malachi she was never herself again. What’s the use of having a power that you can’t use to save anyone? She was supposed to be the most powerful werewolf out there but here she was feeling like a weakling. She should be the weakest werewolf ever existed.

She sighed. She gave Ruby a nod then turned on her heels and decided to walk back towards the pack-house. Her footsteps made a resounding noise on the cobblestone. Her mind wasn’t even paying attention to where she was headed, she just kept on walking. She turned, looking around the beautiful town. There was so much she did not want to give up, and Bloodmoon pack was one of them. What if she wasn’t able to save them all? What if she became so hopeless and brought down Damien with her? Damien has always been her rock, what if she lost this rock?

The thought alone made Delphine’s heart rate spike up. She can’t lose him. Come on Delphine, stop thinking like that. She thought to herself. She crossed her arms over her chest, her head down, her brunette hair covering the side of her face as she walked faster.

Malachi was strong and with the help of the magic gem, he was stronger. At least he can use his powers, her powers were already rusted.

Stop doubting yourself.

Delphine felt her werewolf talk to her, but how could she not. “If I was so powerful then Lila wouldn’t have died,” Delphine said to her werewolf.

You can’t change the past but now you can change the future.

Can I? Delphine asked herself. She used to have so much faith in herself, but not anymore. Those days were long gone.

A storm had hit yesterday, the ground was still wet and mucky, the atmosphere was foggy. The sun was up there shining down at them but it looked like a dim golden bulb since clouds were covering it. The sun was watching and waiting for the events to unfold.

Delphine was still walking around when she heard a child cry. She turned to her left where she saw a little girl sitting on the wet grass, her eyes were brimming with tears, her hair sticking to her face. There was a broken doll lying at her feet.

Delphine’s heart ached, so she walked towards the little girl and squatted beside her. She touched the little girl’s head to comfort the crying girl.

“Hey, honey. What happened to your doll”?

The child turned to look at Delphine, her tears lessened a little. “Someone…stepped on…my doll,” she said in between sniffs.

Delphine smiled a little, she looked at the doll which had its head smashed beyond repair. She pats the little girl’s head.

“I promise to get you a new one when this is all over. Okay?”

The child nodded. “Will you also…get me a new daddy if…my daddy doesn’t come back?”

Delphine’s eyes widened the moment the child said that. How was she supposed to reply to the innocent child’s question? Should she reassure her that everything was going to be fine?

“I…”

“Steph, there you are,” A woman said as she rushed towards the little girl. The woman bowed down in greeting before picking up the little girl and leaving Delphine alone.

The little girl’s statement had left Delphine in another fit of nervousness. Children might lose their fathers, their family just the way she lost Lila, all because of her weakness and Malachi. She clenched her fist in annoyance. This all should be motivation for her to use her powers and defeat Malachi once and for all. Just spark up a little magic!

“A penny for your thoughts?” The cool mellow voice broke Delphine from her reverie.

She looked up to see Damien walking towards her, his shirt sleeves rolled up to his sleeves, his dark hair was ruffled but the dark eye bags weren’t discreet enough and it showed he lacked sleep.

Delphine smiled. “Hey”

Damien sat beside her. “Hey” he placed a kiss on her forehead. “I could feel your anxiousness from afar so I came to check up on you. I see you aren’t holding up too well.”

It was only with Damien did she show her weak spot. “I am scared. What if everything went awry and Malachi won. I don’t want to lose you and I don’t want any family to lose their loved ones either. I wish we could prevent this” They both sat on the grass which was dried, Delphine rested her head on Damien’s shoulder, Damien put his arm around her shoulders, using his hand to rub against her shoulders as comfort.

“You won’t lose me; neither will I lose you. I also wish that I could prevent this from happening but your uncle’s envy is rooted in his bones. But there is one thing I am confident of, I believe in you. I trust you, all I want is for you to trust yourself. Where is that my brave mate that’s ready to take over the world and face all her troubles head-on?”

Delphine smiled, she looked into Damien’s hazel-colored eyes which twinkled under the bright sun.

“I love you, Damien”

“And I love you, Delphine” He placed a palm on her cheeks, moved closer, and placed a kiss on her soft pink lips. That electrifying connection was still felt between them. With their love, they would be able to take over the world.

The kiss was short-lived because it was interrupted by Daciana who scrunched her nose upwards when she noticed their kiss.

“Goodness, haven’t you heard of getting a room? PDA is rude, I mean come on there are kids around”

Delphine blushed at her statement but Damien rolled his eyes. “What do you want, Ciana?”

Daciana’s countenance changed. “The warrior we sent out has returned. Malachi and his troops are close. We need you at the front-line”

Damien and Delphine stood up quickly at the moment.

“Has everyone been evacuated?” Delphine asked.

“Yes, the last set just left. You don’t have to worry about that,” Daciana replied.

Delphine nodded. Damien held her hand.

“We got this,” Damien said to her through their mind links.

Of course, this made her smile. It’s officially time to dance to the tune of war.
