Chapter 29: Eve the Savior

Chapter 29: Eve the Savior
The Humiliation
The next board meeting was war before it even began.
Sienna entered in a tailored suit, chin high, determined to mask the storm inside her. But the room was different. No one met her eyes. Papers rustled too loudly. Murmurs broke mid-sentence when she approached.
Finally, Mr. Carter cleared his throat. “Mrs. Blackwood… there is a matter we must address. Privately, if you prefer.”
Sienna’s heart hammered. “Say it here.”
He slid a folder across the table. “These reached me this morning.”
Her fingers froze as she opened it. The pictures stared back at her — Daniel and Eve, smiling, touching, sin written across every frame.
The room seemed to close in. A heat rose to her face, but her voice stayed even. “This… is private.”
“Private?” one of the younger members scoffed. “When the CEO’s husband flaunts an affair with a junior associate? This is beyond private. It is scandal. It is weakness.”
Another voice chimed in. “If you cannot manage your household, Mrs. Blackwood, how can we trust you to manage this empire?”
The words were daggers.
Not a good wife.
Not a businesswoman.
A loser.
That unspoken verdict echoed in the silence that followed.
Sienna clasped the folder shut, her knuckles white. She refused to let them see her break. “Mind your words! Think twice before speaking to me! This company was built by my family’s blood and legacy. One scandal does not erase that. I am still the chairwoman. And I will not be dismissed by whispers.”
But the damage was done. She could see it in their eyes — doubt, judgment, betrayal.
As the meeting adjourned, whispers trailed after her. Words she had never thought she’d hear.

By evening, a call arrived on her phone. The board demanded an emergency meeting the next day.
Sienna sat in her study, the folder of pictures open on her desk, her reflection trembling in the glass. Alone, finally, she let the tears fall — hot, silent, unstoppable.
For years she had worn the crown, the perfect Queen of an empire. But now…
The cracks were spreading. And Eve was winning.

\---

The boardroom was quieter than usual. The air smelled faintly of polished wood and the bitter tang of fresh coffee, but there was something else too—something heavy and suffocating, a silence that pressed against Sienna’s chest as she entered. Her heels clicked across the marble floor, echoing in the cavernous space, though not a single head turned to acknowledge her arrival.
All eyes were already fixed on the double doors at the far end.
And then they opened.
Eve walked in.
The younger woman was radiant, draped in a pale silk blouse that shimmered under the light, her hair cascading in effortless waves. Her lips were curved in a small, self-assured smile as if she already knew she had won before the game had even begun. At her side—like a trophy she had claimed—was Daniel.
The sight made Sienna’s stomach twist. He didn’t look guilty or hesitant; he looked proud, almost smug, as though bringing Eve here was a calculated move. His hand brushed the small of Eve’s back as he guided her forward. Subtle enough for others to overlook. Not subtle enough for Sienna.
She sat at the head of the table, spine straight, chin raised. A queen in a crumbling castle.
“Shall we begin?” Mr. Carter, one of the oldest and most respected board members, cleared his throat. His voice cut through the room like a blade.
Sienna nodded, her voice calm despite the chaos simmering inside her. “Yes. Let’s.”
But she could feel it—the shift in the air. The weight of unspoken doubts. The board’s whispers, their sidelong glances, their impatience. They didn’t see her as the unshakable Blackwood heir anymore. She was wounded prey, and predators circled.
The Verdict
The discussion began with charts, numbers, and losses projected on the wide screen. Every bar of red felt like a personal attack. Eve sat quietly, eyes lowered, a perfect picture of innocence, but when she finally spoke, her voice carried like a bell.
“The company cannot sustain another quarter like this,” Eve said softly. “There needs to be… decisive action.”
She didn’t look at Sienna. She didn’t need to.
Mr. Carter folded his hands, his aged knuckles pale against the dark wood of the table. “We’ve considered every angle. The only path forward is to secure the Lennox Project. A multi-million-dollar initiative. Risky, but it’s the one chance to save this empire.”
A murmur rippled through the boardroom.
“And who do you propose should lead this project?” Sienna asked, her voice sharp.
Carter’s gaze softened, but his words were merciless. “You, Mrs. Blackwood. Only you have the name, the history, the weight to secure it. The Lennox family trusted your father. They will trust you.”
The words should have felt like validation. Instead, they felt like a sentence.
She would have to leave. Leave the city, leave her company in the hands of jackals circling her throne. And worse—leave Daniel and Eve together.
Sienna pressed her nails into her palm beneath the table to stop her hands from trembling. “Very well,” she said finally.
The Savior
“Of course…” Eve’s voice broke the silence, sugar-sweet and calculated. “If Mrs. Blackwood must leave, the company can’t simply stall in her absence. We’ll need someone to step in.”
All heads turned to her. She smiled demurely, lowering her gaze like a woman embarrassed by her own boldness. “If the board permits, I’d be willing to… assist. Temporarily, of course.”
The suggestion slid into the room like poison.
Daniel leaned forward. “I agree. It’s only practical. Eve has been working closely with me these past weeks. She understands the immediate challenges we’re facing.”
The casual use of working closely sliced through Sienna like glass.
She forced herself to keep her tone even. “That won’t be necessary.”
“But Sienna,” Daniel cut in, voice firm but almost patronizing, “you can’t do both. You can’t handle Lennox and manage this chaos here. We need stability.”
His words weren’t just a statement—they were pressure, a subtle command. He wanted her gone. He wanted Eve here.
Sienna looked around the room, meeting the board members’ eyes one by one. Some looked away. Some looked apologetic. A few, worse than the rest, looked eager—ready to embrace Eve’s offer like sheep desperate for a shepherd.
Her pulse hammered in her ears, but she swallowed the lump in her throat. “If that is what the board believes… then I’ll take the Lennox project.”
The decision was made. With a single nod, she signed away her control, if only for a few weeks.
Behind Closed Doors
Later, when the meeting adjourned, Sienna stayed behind, staring at the empty chairs. She felt hollow, like the shell of a woman who had once been unshakable. Her reflection in the glass wall looked foreign—tired eyes, lips pressed thin, shoulders bent under invisible weight.
Her father’s voice whispered in her memory: Never let them see you bleed.
And she hadn’t. Not yet.
But she could feel the blood pouring beneath her skin.
Celebration in Shadows
That night, hidden from Sienna’s view, Eve clinked her glass of champagne against Daniel’s in the quiet of the Lake House balcony. The moon painted her features silver, and her smirk gleamed sharper than the rim of her glass.
“To survival?” Daniel asked, raising a brow.
“No.” Eve leaned closer, her lips brushing his ear as her voice dropped to a whisper. “To victory. Phase Three begins.”
Her laughter drifted into the night, soft and cruel, while Sienna—miles away—prepared herself to leave everything behind.

Sienna is cornered, forced to step away while Eve steps into her place beside Daniel. But is this Sienna’s downfall… or the moment she begins to sharpen her own blade?
