Chapter 37
The sun was high in the sky as Megan- no, Cleo left her suite into the black car waiting for her.
Megan had never had a car not to talk to someone opening the door for her to enter.
It all felt foreign but she fit into the role quickly.
She sat at the back sipping on a glass of wine as the driver started the car.
Linda was in the front seat with her head bowed.
Megan was in a blue tight dress and her make up was done to perfection.
She did not need to do much as Cleo Ainsley was indeed a beautiful woman.
Her tanned skin glowed in the warm sun and her brown curls fell down in waves around her.
The ride was silent and after what seemed to be like hours, the car finally pulled up to Ainsley Editors building.
But now, it was her building.
Cleo’s heart thumped violently against her chest as her toes curled in excitement.
She would walk into the building and all eyes would be on her.
Everyone would struggle to please her.
The car door was opened for her and the driver offering a hand to her carefully guided her out of the door.
She did not miss the way his eyes ran down her body and this made Cleo’s chest puff out in pride and confidence.
This could all be a dream and she planned to make the most of it but if it was not a dream, Cleo was more than ready to do whatever it took to make sure that she could continue to live this life that the heavens had given her.
However, there was one thought that was gnawing at the back of her mind.
She was trying hard to stop herself from thinking about it.
What happened to the real Cleo?
Pushing these thoughts to the beck of her mind, she started to make her way into the huge building.
Her heels clicked against the pavement confident and steady as her hips swayed with each movement.
This was something that she had always envied from afar from Cleo and Linda especially.
The one blew at her brown curls furthering the sensual feel that she felt.
The thrill coursed through her vein like fire and the moment she entered the building, every one stood up tobgredg she and all eyes were on her.
It was an immaculate feeling.
It was something that Megan thoughts that she could never hope to achieve in her lifetime.
She was escorted to Cleo’s office and Megan could not help but subtly stare around.
She looked like a child on Christmas.
Even though she had worked in this same building for more than a year, not once had she been called into this office and had the opportunity of seeing what it looked like on the inside.
It was beautiful.
A huge chandelier stood in the center of the ceiling and her desk was farther inside of the office.
The moment she sat down, a young man nervously came towards her with what seemed to be a manuscript in her hand.
She knew him.
He was one of the employees from the sales department and someone who always gave her a hard time.
To Megan, he was someone that was highly confident but now, seeing him in this state just makes him look so pathetic to her.
“M-Miss Ainsley…here are the manuscripts for the luncheon with the publisher later this afternoon.”
He said as beads of sweat started to gather at the sides of his face.
He tried to fake confidence with a small laugh as he tried to wipe his sweat away with a handkerchief:
However, her eyes remains hard as she stared down at him with a straight face.
How truly pathetic Megan thought.
However, she was no different
The moment she entered the restaurant, it was hard to ignore the flashes that followed her.
It was all foreign to her and she was nervous but her body cared otherwise.
It was like her body had a mind of its own which only made sense as it felt like she had borrowed it.
Her stride was confident and her posture perfect.
Megan always knew that Cleo Ainsley was a huge deal but she never thought it was to this extent.
For paparazzi to intrude her privacy even when going for something as simple as a luncheon.
However, no matter how she tried, Megan could not quell the hate that welled up from the out of her stomach.
The reason why Cleo Ainsley could enjoy all of this glory was because of her.
She never put in the hard work and hardly showed up to the office.
She was the one putting in all the work and having the sleepless nights and not even a thank you.
The door to the restaurant was opened for her and almost immediately, a young man came rushing towards her.
“Ms. Ainsley, at last! We’ve been dying to hear about your upcoming projects. The Girl in Room 324 has already broken records. And Under the Cherry Blossom Tree, what a triumph! Truly, you’ve changed the landscape of modern literature.”
He said and just like that, Megan was back to her composed self.
“Thank you for your praises.”
She responded gracefully in a voice that still sounded so foreign to her.
However, Megan was confused.
How could it be that these books have already reached the ears of the press and publishers when they practically don’t exist yet?
Did Linda somehow go behind her before she was done proofreading?
Then again, she had no idea what was happening.
This morning, she woke up in the body of her boss.
She could feel the weight of dozens of eyes on her but Cleo’s body was used to the attention. It stood tall and confident.
She turned to look at the publisher but instead of a mesmerized look, he head a confused look on his face.
She did not miss that others in the room had the same expression.
“W-who are you? Where is Miss Ainsley?”
He asked as he shook his head as if to clear his mind.
Megan slowly turned to the mirror beside her and her breath quickened.
She was Megan Melroy again.
