Chapter 36
Chapter 36

Sunlight spilled through the curtains making Megan to furrow her eyebrows as she tried hard ti keep her eye kids shut.

The chirping of birds were loud outside of her home and not being able to drown out the noise, her eye lids pried open exposing her sensitive eyes to the bright light.

Her pupils sunk in as it took her eyes a while to acclimatize to the harsh yet warm rays.

The first thing that she noticed was that this was not her room.

This was not her bed.

She glanced around the massive room as she sprang out of bed in horror.

The blanket slipped off her frame and she could not help jut notice her slender tan legs and flat belly:

Huh?

Her skin was pale and her skin was nothing special to look at so Megan could not help but halt in her tracks.

…..This was a suite.

The walls were an ivory color with a chandelier in the center of the room.

There were white shelves on the side of the room with tons and tons of books.

Books that she, Megan wrote or edited but they all had a different name: Cleo Ainsley.

She got up to her feet and her toes burrowed into a soft pelted carpet.

Megan could not help help but close her eyes as the soft texture.

She walked over naked to the shelves to have a better look at the books.

To her, she was still in a strange dream.

Her hands brushed over the spines of the books but there were two that made her stop in her tracks.

The Girl in Room 324 – Cleo Ainsley.
Under the Cherry Blossom Tree – Cleo Ainsley.
Her knees buckled as she stared at the titles.

Her heart started to beat fast again by her chest as she could not stop the ringing in her ears.
She spun over to the vanity mirror on the dresser opposite and she rushed to it.

When she stared at the mirror, she was no longer looking at herself.

She was not looking at Megan Melroy…..She was looking at her boss…. Cleo Ainsley.

Her long black hair was now beautiful shiny brown curls.

Her green eyes were now brown eyes which flowed beautifully in the sun.

Her once paled cubby figure was now a beautiful tanned and toned figure.

She was naked and she could not help but run her hands all over her body.
“I…” Her voice faltered. “I’m Cleo Ainsley?”
Was she dreaming?

What?

How did this happen?

Then all of a sudden, the door burst open and this was more than enough to bring her out of her thoughts and back to reality.

She immediately rushed over to the bed to tie the silk sheets over her frame.

“Good morning ma’am.”

She heard from behind her.

The voice was familiar and she turned around.

In front of her was Linda…. but it was not the Linda that she was accustomed to.

This Linda was shy and lacked fashion sense.

Her hair was in a loose bun and if she her blonde shiny hair, her hair seemed dull and not taken care of.

She had in thick runned glasses as her eyes were focused on the floor.

“Just like me”
Megan muttered under her breath as she found it difficult to take her eyes off of her
.
She had a clipboard close to her chest and Megan could not miss her chapped fingernails.

It was obvious that she chewed on them regularly. Just like she used to.

She had a plain black top and joggers just like she used to.

She looked nervous and she kept her head bowed awkwardly.
“Your car is ready, Ms. Ainsley. The publisher wants you at the luncheon by noon. And…” She hesitated, adjusting the papers in her arms. “…everyone is so excited to hear your keynote speech.”
Linda finally broke the silence staring down at the clipboard that’s he once had to her chest.

Megan’s eye brows furrowed in confusion as her eyes remained fixated on Linda.

She was silent….waiting patiently for her instructions.

She blinked and the reaction came to her in an instant.

Almost immediately, the confusion that she had been feeling washed away and power rippled through her.

It felt intoxicating and Megan could not help but take in a deep breath.

This was what she had always wanted. The life of a predator and everything that came with it.

She let out a small smirk as the corners of her mouth shaped into an angle that was foreign to her.

For so long, she had dreamed of this life and imagined how it would feel to be sought after. To stand where Cleo had stood while Linda trailed in her shadow.

“Thank you Linda.”

She responded in a strange voice. She didn’t stutter and her voice did not shake.
Her voice was smooth, soft and authoritative.

The reaction came in an instant.

Linda nodded fast, her glasses shifting down to the bridge of her nose.

Beads of sweat gathered on her face making strands of her hair stick to the sides of her face.
It was obvious that Linda was nervous being in front of her.

“I’ll be out shortly.”
She said with a flick of her wrist and almost immediately, she practically ran out of the room leaving Megan alone.

She turned back to the mirror to continue to look at her new body as she dropped the silk sheets to her feet.

“Yes, this is what I have always wanted.”
She whispered to the air.

However, the moment she said those words, her chest felt heavy and the air became thicker.
From the corner of her eyes, she saw a dark figure staring at her.

She chose to ignore it but her instincts were screaming at her to focus on it.

To her, she had just acquired this new life and she was not going to allow anyone to anything get in her way.
