Killian.
“Your next appointment will be in Remus Pack, right?”
Dad kept on talking about my tour in finding my mate, while I lazily slumped on the couch in the middle of his vast office.
Being a Lycan was incredibly convenient as no one dared to mess with us or they would regret it. But being the Prince of the Lycans was way better.
I didn’t fear anyone for I had battled so many wars. Actually, all the neighboring packs and even the packs from the other continents knew not to offend us. We were the strongest!
That’s why hearing and fearing words from a seer is undeniably ridiculous for me.
‘Don’t dare meet her, Prince Killian. Or it will be the death of you.’
Those were the words of the pack’s seer.
And what kind of reading is that? I mean, what kind of being could possibly kill a very strong Lycan like us, like me?
He probably made a ridiculous reading about my fate in the hands of my own mate—a she-wolf. And I could not believe Dad—the King of the Lycans—was falling for it.
“Are you even listening to what I am saying?”
Dad impatiently turned to me.
I lazily played with my glass of wine. It’d been very boring since that night of fateful reading. I was thrown to different trips not to conquer packs and enemies, but to find that certain she-wolf.
Too boring, right?
“Yeah. I heard you, keep going.”
I decided to take a sip and enjoy the sweet-bitter taste of this vintage wine that Dad had been keeping all those decades.
“Can’t you be more serious about this project? Your life is at stake here!”
I rolled my eyes.
"I am serious here. It’s just that it bored me to death to find that mate who was ‘fated to kill me’,” I stressed the last few words.
Ugh, here we go again.
I released a lazy breath as I continued to enjoy my wine.
This wine was way more interesting than plotting on how to kill my fated assassin.
“I know that you are not taking Seer Ronnie’s reading seriously.”
Well, that was true. And Dad knew better.
“But nothing from Seer Ronnie’s reading had gone wrong. You see? He had predicted how your mom would die.”
Sadness and fury filled my father’s dark eyes. Even though we had avenged the Queen’s death, he could not get over it. And no one would ever get over it.
“Everything he said really happened. We can’t be too confident and take things so easily. You are my heir to my throne. We can’t gamble with your safety, Killian.”
King Aldus gave out a frustrated sigh. I had never seen him this frustrated until that night of fate reading happened. Probably because, who could stay calm after losing his wife and now, receiving a threat to his son’s life?
And believe me, I would love to strangle Seer Ronnie’s neck ‘til he died, if not only for my father’s great value for him.
That seer puts my family in distress!
Well, not me. Because I never believed in any readings and prophecies.
I sighed deeply. Aside from being bored, I am also tired of this kind of discussion.
“Fine, fine. So, what’s the plan? If I saw my mate and future assassin in Remus pack, I would kill her right there and then, right?”
Dad gave me an irritating glance. “You think it’s easy?”
“Why not?” I shrugged him off. “How in the world not? She is just a woman. I conquered huge battles with strong Alphas, a mere female wolf could never be a problem to me.”
“Don’t be too confident. You forget that she is your mate. The powerful attraction between you and your mate could possibly be a huge hindrance to your success in killing her,” he firmly reminded me.
And the King started to tell tales about how he felt when he saw Mom for the very first time…how powerful the attraction that even a mighty king of Lycans could never ignore.
When it came to Mom, the mighty King and the Alpha of Lycans softened. His weakness was his fated mate and I knew he was thinking the same way about me.
Well, I could take that into account. I have heard a lot about how powerful the mate bond is. But I am the master of myself. I can always fight against my own feelings.
I was about to say that but I decided to choke on my words. Hearing how happy my father is in remembering the days, I don’t have the heart to destroy it. That’s the only thing that made him happy—remembering his time with Mom.
Dad suddenly turned to me and changed his tone.
“And besides, if ever your mate is in Remus Pack, I will deeply regret killing one of their members. You know what kind of leader Alpha Evo was. I don’t want to cut the peace treaty with them.”
I understood what he meant. It was not because he feared Alpha Evo. It was way out of the question. We never feared anyone.
But Dad admired Alpha Evo very much. He knew the leader of Remus Pack was truly an amazing person. He believes our world needs more of a leader like Alpha Evo.
“But my son’s safety is my priority. So if ever your mate is there, do it Killian. Kill her,” King Aldus’ firm voice was laced with regrets and agony.
I could perfectly understand. But he is right. We are living on a battlefield from the day we are born. We will do anything to survive.
I let out a hearty chuckle, making the air less gloomy. “So, have a safe trip for me? Aren’t you going to say that?”
King Aldus turned to me, arching his eyebrow, pressing his lips firmly. Worry was more evident in his troubled face.
“You dare not to come back dead, son.”
With confidence, I stand up and prepare for a toss. “Believe me, that will never, ever happen."
I gave him a confident grin.
Being a Lycan Prince who lived more than a thousand years, and won thousands of battles, what could possibly kill me? I was almost immortal. That seer must have had the wrong readings.
