The Alpha’s Gaze

Lily sat at the small kitchen table, holding a cold cup of coffee in her hands, but her mind was far away. She kept replaying the conversation she’d had with Alex the night before. His voice, soft and tender, still echoed in her ears. He had been calm, but there was something in his words that she couldn’t forget. No matter how hard she tried to put distance between herself and the emotions she felt for him, she couldn’t erase the feeling that lingered whenever she thought of him.

Only a few days had passed since she had disappeared, but the conversation with Alex was still fresh in her mind. He had spoken to her softly, told her he loved her, even though they were far apart. She had felt pain in his words, and at the same time, a longing to hear him again, to not lose him. But she wasn’t ready for that. She couldn’t face what was between them.

It was morning, but she didn’t have the energy to do much. Her thoughts were fractured, confused. While she was lost in her thoughts, she heard a knock on the door. Gentle, yet unmistakable. The knock startled her. She wasn’t expecting anyone, and no one should know she was here, right? Who could it be?

With trembling hands, Lily stood up from the table and slowly walked toward the door. Her heart was racing. No one was supposed to be looking for her, was there? She paused for a moment, standing in front of the door, taking a deep breath, and then asked almost instinctively, "Who is it?"

"Surveyor," came the deep, calm voice from the other side of the door.

Lily paused for a moment, unsure of what to think. A surveyor? She couldn’t recall anything related to research companies contacting her, but still, she had to open the door. She glanced at the man’s figure through the glass, then took a deep breath. She had no choice but to open it.

She slowly turned the handle. When she opened the door, she froze. Standing before her were three men, each of them massive. They weren’t just tall, but broad-shouldered, imposing. There was something undeniably unusual about them, something she couldn’t place. Standing at the front was a man with piercing blue eyes that seemed to never leave her. He was tall, with sharp features, and he exuded an energy she couldn’t quite comprehend.

The first man spoke. “Hello, mate,” he said in a calm, almost mysterious tone, a soft smile playing on his lips. “I’m Sebastian, Alpha of the Moonlight Pack. We’re here to take you with us, back to Seattle.”

Lily stood there, frozen. Her body was still, her eyes wide as she tried to make sense of what she had just heard. Mate? His voice was calm, but those words reverberated in her mind like a lightning strike. Mate? What did that even mean?

Without saying a word, she glanced at the other men behind him. One was shorter but had sharp features, while the third was younger, with slightly messy hair, though all of them wore the same serious expression. They were... theirs. Hers.

“This is Jonah,” Sebastian said, gesturing to the man with sharp features. “He’s the beta, and this is Liam,” he added, pointing to the younger one who merely nodded at her. “He’s the gamma.”

Sebastian turned back to her, and for the first time, their eyes met. And in that moment, she felt something shift within her—something deep, something almost unexplainable. His eyes were intense, and as she looked into them, she felt a pull. It was a connection she couldn’t describe, a sensation that overwhelmed her.

He was her mate. But she didn’t know that yet.

“Your place is with us, Lily. You’re coming with us to Seattle,” he said, his voice steady but with a tone that left no room for argument.

Lily could only stare, her mouth dry, as confusion and fear washed over her. What did he mean? She didn’t understand.

“No...” she whispered, her voice trembling. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t know who you are.”

Sebastian nodded calmly, as though her resistance was expected. “You’re my mate, Lily. You’re coming with me, back to Seattle.”

Her body tensed, every muscle screaming for release, but she couldn’t move. Her heart was pounding, and her mind was spinning, but she couldn’t deny the undeniable pull she felt.

“We’re not giving you a choice,” he continued, his voice softer now, but firm. “You’re coming with us, Lily. There’s no escaping what’s meant to be.”

The moment the words left his lips, Lily felt the gravity of the situation settle on her shoulders. Her mate? It was impossible to wrap her mind around. What did that even mean for her? She had no idea, but she knew this was only the beginning. The pull was too strong to deny.

“I don’t... I can’t...,” she stammered, still unsure of what to make of everything.

Sebastian’s eyes softened as he looked at her. “I know it’s hard to understand right now, but it’s happening. Whether you’re ready or not, you belong with us. Your home is with the pack, in Seattle.”

With each word, her resistance waned. Every instinct in her was telling her to fight, but something else—something much deeper—was pulling her toward him. She didn’t know what to make of it, but she also couldn’t ignore it.

The door closed behind them as they stepped into her space. Lily felt as though her entire world was shifting, and there was nothing she could do to stop it.

And so, for the first time in her life, Lily realized that she was no longer just her own person. She was now part of something bigger. The Moonlight pack.
