Chapter 116 A New Dawn
Chapter 116 A New Dawn
Alexander woke with a lightness in his chest he had not felt in many days. The morning sun filtered through the heavy curtains of his bedroom casting warm golden patterns across the floor. He lay there for a moment simply breathing. The memory of seeing Maddie the night before played in his mind like a beautiful dream he never wanted to end. Her smile. Her voice. The way she had looked at him across the crowded ballroom as if the rest of the world had disappeared. She was safe. She was healing. She was waiting for him. That knowledge alone made the weight on his shoulders feel lighter.
He rose from the bed and walked to the bathroom. The marble floor was cool beneath his feet as he turned on the shower. Hot water cascaded over his body washing away the remnants of yesterday's tension. He stood under the spray for a long time letting the heat soothe his muscles. His mind wandered to Maddie again. The way her hand had felt in his as they danced. The soft press of her lips when she kissed him. The gentle curve of her stomach where their child grew. He smiled to himself as he washed his hair and body. Today he will work. And soon he would bring her home where she belonged.
He stepped out of the shower and dried himself with a thick towel. He chose a crisp white shirt and a perfectly tailored dark suit. The fabric felt good against his skin as he dressed. He adjusted his tie in the mirror and ran a hand through his damp hair. For the first time in weeks he looked like himself again. Strong. Focused. Ready.
A soft knock sounded on the bedroom door. One of the house maids entered carrying a tray. "Good morning sir. I brought your breakfast."
She set the tray on the small table by the window. Freshly squeezed orange juice. Scrambled eggs with herbs. Crispy bacon. Warm toast with butter and jam. A bowl of mixed berries and a pot of strong black coffee. The aroma filled the room, making his stomach rumble.
"Thank you," he said with a genuine smile. "It looks perfect."
The maid bowed slightly and left quietly. Alexander sat down and ate slowly savoring each bite. The food tasted better than it had in days. He drank the coffee black and hot letting it wake him fully. As he ate he thought about the day ahead. Meetings. Strategy sessions. Plans for expansion. The company had waited long enough for his attention. He would give it today while his wolves continued the search for any remaining threats.
When he finished he stood and straightened his suit. The driver was already waiting downstairs. Alexander walked out of the bedroom and down the grand staircase. The estate was quiet this morning. Servants moved about their duties with respectful nods as he passed. He stepped outside into the bright morning sun. The black car waited with the driver holding the door open.
"Good morning sir," the driver said.
"Good morning," Alexander replied as he slid into the back seat.
The car pulled smoothly away from the estate and onto the main road toward the city. Alexander watched the scenery pass by. Trees. Open fields. The distant skyline of the city is growing closer. He felt a quiet determination settle over him. Today he would handle the company. Tomorrow he will focus on the war. Every day brought him closer to bringing Maddie home.
The drive took forty minutes. When they arrived at the towering glass building of Blackwood Enterprises Alexander stepped out and walked through the lobby with purpose. Employees greeted him with respectful nods and smiles. Some looked surprised to see him after his absence. He took the private elevator to the top floor and walked into his office.
The space felt familiar yet distant. His large desk. The city view through floor to ceiling windows. The leather chairs where he had held countless meetings. He sat down and immediately began reviewing reports. Numbers. Projections. Market analysis. The company had held steady in his absence but there were opportunities waiting.
His assistant Marcus entered shortly after. "Good morning sir. The executive team is ready for the ten o'clock meeting in the main conference room."
Alexander nodded. "Let us begin."
The meeting room was already full when he arrived. Department heads and senior executives sat around the long table. Alexander took his seat at the head and began without delay.
"Good morning everyone. Thank you for your patience during my absence. Today we focus on the future. We have strong opportunities for expansion into the European market. Germany and France show particularly promising data for our technology division. I want detailed proposals on the table within two weeks. Logistics. Regulatory requirements. Projected returns. Leave nothing out."
The head of international operations spoke first. "We have preliminary studies sir. Germany has favorable tax incentives for our type of innovation. France offers strong talent pools in engineering. We could see twenty five percent growth in the first three years if we move quickly."
Alexander listened carefully, asking sharp questions. "What about competition? How do we differentiate ourselves?"
The discussion flowed for nearly two hours. Ideas were presented. Challenges were addressed. Alexander guided the conversation with clear vision and decisive leadership. By the end the team had clear action points and deadlines. The meeting ended with renewed energy. The company was moving forward again.
Alexander returned to his office feeling satisfied with the progress. He sat behind his desk and began reviewing contracts when the door opened without a knock.
