Chapter 35 THE TRUTH XAVIER COULD NEVER TELL

Chapter 35 THE TRUTH XAVIER COULD NEVER TELL
“Oh congratulations Dr. Alexander,” someone said with a cheerful tone.

“We heard the news, you are officially one of us now I am so happy for you.”

Another person came forward. “Congratulations Dr. Alexander. This is wonderful news.”

Suddenly the entire lobby was filled with people walking up to Xavier and shaking his hands.

Nurses, junior doctors and even senior doctors who had been hanging around the doors waiting for the news.

In this hospital, news spreads quickly especially if it had to do with Aris Thorne.

Everyone was talking about how the new rookie had faced off against the most famous Aris Thorne.

Xavier smiled with a polite smile as he nodded to each and every one of them.

“Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.”

One of them got close to him, a nurse he had always greeted and brought coffee for ever since he started his work in the hospital.

“I heard that you answered every single question that even the top doctors in the world couldn’t even answer.”

Xavier shrugged, “I just did my homework in a proper way.” He said in a humble way.

Inside, he was already thinking about his next move.

He shook some hands as a doctor put a hand on his shoulder.

“All right everyone give the man some space,” Doctor Craig said as he appeared behind him. “He’s had a very rough morning and you Alexander come over to my office. We need to talk.”

Xavier nodded as he turned to the crowd, waved to them like he was some sort of celebrity before following Craig down the hallway and into Craig’s office.

The moment they entered, Craig gestured to the leather chair across his desk as Xavier went to sit down.

Craig didn’t sit down right away, instead he walked to the whiskey cabinet to bring out two glasses which he poured for himself and for Xavier a glass of whiskey.

With that, he walked over to the seat that Xavier was sitting in and gave him the glass before walking around his seat to sit down.

“Well congratulations, how about you drink up? That is your first drink from me. Just think of it as me buying you a drink for being successful.”

Xavier chuckled, “thank you so much sir.”

He took a sip of the drink as it burned down his throat before he grimaced and kept the drink on his lap with a firm hold.

“You really did it, didn't you?” Craig asked with a smile, his face showing pride and suspicion. “You know I’ve been practicing medicine for over thirty years and I’ve seen different kinds of people but what I saw today, dude that was something special.”

Xavier leaned back, keeping his posture relaxed as he looked at the drink in his cup before dropping it on the table.

Craig looked at the drink. “You’re not going to drink?”

Xavier shook his head. “I’m not really an alcohol fan.”

“Oh you’re one of those mummy’s boys who deal with only orange juice.”

Xavier chuckled at the playful words of Craig. “Actually I am more like an organic guy. I don’t drink all of this because it’s dangerous to the health, but I am glad I could meet the board expectation.”

“Expectations?” Craig said as he leaned forward with his eyes fixed on Xavier. “You didn’t just miss them. You blew everything away, but I have to ask you something, Doctor to Doctor, man to Man. I want to know how you knew about all those diseases. How did you handle his questions like you’ve been doing this for years? If you cheated be honest with me because if you did, I want to know. I’m not going to lie, I rather hear it from you than from Thorne who will want to destroy you.”

Xavier looked him in the eye with a straightforward smile. He knew that he had to be careful about what he put out because if he told Craig the truth about how he had known about his answers, he could be in so much trouble.

In fact, nobody will believe him. Who was going to believe that he came from another world, that he was a surgeon and in his other world he died and woke up in somebody else’s body.

He would get him sent straight to a hospital, possibly a psychiatric ward.

Xavier shook his head. “I did not cheat. I didn’t have an earpiece and I didn’t steal any papers.”

“Then how did you do it? Some of those theories you mentioned are barely in the journals.”

“Like I said, I did my research,” Xavier said, pulling in some random story from his mind. "Throughout my life, I’ve been interested in things that so many people ignore while some of the students were out partying and having orgies. I was always looking at different medical records, trying to find patterns in rare diseases. I’ve spent thousands of hours studying because practicing medicine is my passion."

Craig frowned as he tapped a pain against his chin.

“Where did you get the money to find all of this research to buy the equipment… to access the database like you knew about that thing you talked about?”

Xavier didn’t blink as he thought about the people who had given him money to disappear. He then thought about the money his system had provided. If he told this man about the system powers, he knew how this man was going to react.

He took in deep breaths as he smiled.

“I had the money, sir. I’ve been lucky enough to have funds to support my interest and my dreams. I didn’t need a university lab to do the reading. I bought all I needed to buy and stayed quiet in my small cubicle until it was ready.”

Craig looked at him for a while, trying to catch a lie, but he finally nodded.

“Alright, that makes sense. Families usually have rich kids, but sometimes they have a kid who’s really into their work and lucky for us, we had you in.”

Just as Craig finished, he pulled up a file on his computer and looked at it before looking back at Xavier.

“Now I’ve been checking your records here at the hospital for the past two weeks even when you were still in training. I’m seeing that you spent so much time in the lab instead of being with your colleagues at break time. You even spent time at the lab late at night."

Xavier knew this discussion would come sooner or later, however, he stayed quiet letting Craig continue to speak.

"Now I’ve always wondered what you’re doing there at night. Why spend so much time in the lab when you could be resting or having fun or I don’t know… impressing some girls out there. What is so particular about this lab that you just won’t tell me about?”
