Chapter 027 The Wedding Date
As the evening meal commenced, the final arrival was Adrian's aunt, Melissa. Her solitary entrance prompted a question from Ruben, his tone tinged with a hint of displeasure. "Where's Daniel?" he queried.
"He's attending a classmate's birthday celebration," Melissa responded, her voice echoing the emptiness of the room.
Ruben's mood seemed to lift at this news. "Oh, does Daniel have a girl he's taken a liking to?" His face brightened, and he nodded approvingly. "He's certainly of age. If the girl is suitable, he should introduce her to us."
"Hmm," Melissa responded, her enthusiasm not matching Ruben's. She knew Daniel well enough to keep her expectations in check.
Natalie, who had been eavesdropping on the conversation, felt a ripple of surprise.
She had been too preoccupied with her own affairs to pay much attention to Daniel. However, she had recently heard whispers at school about Daniel being seen with a girl named Emily Cooper.
So, the rumors were true. Yet, she found relief in this revelation. If Daniel continued to pester her, she would have to devise more excuses to reject him.
On the return journey, Adrian took the wheel. He glanced at Natalie through the rearview mirror, his gaze landing on the pearl necklace adorning her neck. "Did Melissa give you that?"
He recalled seeing Melissa leading Natalie away for a walk after dinner, and when Natalie returned, she was wearing the necklace.
"Yeah."
"What did she tell you?" Adrian probed.
"Melissa said..." Natalie's voice trailed off as she hesitated, a memory resurfacing. Her thick lashes fluttered, and she fell silent.
"Yeah?" Adrian, focused on the road, thought he had misheard her.
"She said..." Natalie's cheeks flushed with shyness before she finally murmured, "She hopes that we can set a date for our wedding soon so we can start a family early."
Adrian's eyes met hers through the mirror, a surge of emotions washing over him. He squinted slightly. They indeed needed to set a wedding date. Yet, for some reason, Natalie's face flashed in his mind. The reflection of "Alice" in the mirror seemed to bear Natalie's shadow. Natalie had indeed left a lasting impression on him!
Meanwhile, in a hospital room, two figures were entwined beside Alice's bed...
Alice bit her lip, her moans growing increasingly uninhibited. The man playfully smacked her backside. "Aren't you afraid the nurses will come?"
"It's your fault," she retorted, her face still marred by red blotches that hadn't faded. Her usually pretty visage was not at its best, drawing a faint look of disgust from the man. Yet, she was being quite reckless.
"When is that rash going to clear up?" he asked.
"The doctor said, as long as the rash is under control, it should mostly clear up by next week..." Alice admitted, feeling uncomfortable. If not for her allergic reaction, she would have been at the Howard Villa, not needing Natalie to stand in for her!
The man flashed a wicked smile. "Imagine if your dad or your mom walked in on us making love, we'd be finished."
Alice, lost in pleasure and drenched in sweat, dismissed his concern. "My parents won't come at night. Carlos, don't leave tonight, I get so bored on my own."
"Am I much better than Adrian?" The man, referred to as Carlos, was actually Paul's son. Merely thinking of Adrian ignited a fierce competitive desire within him.
Alice was taken aback. She had never slept with Adrian; she had no way of comparing their capabilities in bed.
Even though she had managed to secure Adrian's proposal after that night at the hotel, he hadn't made love to her. His demeanor was polite yet distant, which frustrated Alice to no end!
Finally, she resisted. "Don't. It'll be terrible if I get pregnant..."
