Chapter 83 Eighty-Three.

Chapter 83 Eighty-Three.

KYLE’S POV.

Katniss slept on the floor overnight and I get to lay on a bed after years, but it’s because I am sick.

My head feels like it is being poked with a gazillion needles, and my body feels like it’s being torn apart from every single angle. I can feel the poison in every part of my body. The pain I feel is nothing like I’ve ever felt before and it makes me want to wish for death; but I can’t, not with the worry on Katniss face and not with Olivia still being out there.

Olivia… she had a fight yesterday, but Katniss told me she won with one strike. It makes me wonder if she has awoken her Fae energy. She has to have, considering I already awakened mine despite being a clutz who does not know how to use it.

I cough for the umpteenth time today, dragging the duvet up my chest as I look around the room. I’m the only one here and I’m bored to death.

Katniss isn’t around. She went into the forest — with Toby guarding her so she won’t run – to look for plants that can help with the poison in my system. And Helios is somewhere within the cabin, keeping an eye on me.

Not like I can even escape if I want to. I can’t even move a limb without writhing in pain.

The door to the room opens. I turn my head slowly, expecting Katniss and Toby to be back, but I see Orion instead.

He closes the door behind him and stands by it, crossing his hands behind his back as he stares at me. He’s probably happy the poison is doing the work before he gets to unleash his hybrid wolf on me.

Just as I am about to look away, he speaks.

“I met with your sister. Again,” he says, completely gaining my attention. “She remains adamant. Seems like she does not care about you like I thought she would. Instead she seems to prioritise the King, who enslaved her, over you. I did some digging with Sven’s gamma, and apparently your sister is his mate.”

Eh? That should be impossible. A Fae and a werewolf hybrid cannot possibly be mates.

“I said the same thing too,” he says, almost as if he could read my thoughts. “Your face says more than words ever could. But apparently, Sven confirmed it. Which only strengthens my suspicions.”

I manage to sit upright on the bed, holding back my groans at the pain I feel. Every pores in my skin bleeds with sweat.

Orion words sounds too unbelievable to be true. Besides, Katniss never once mentioned Olivia being the Kings mate to me. Unless it’s not public information.

‘Which suspicions?’ I sign, coughing.

“That Sven is a Fae. Just like you and Olivia.”

A laugh escapes me, but it comes out as a wheeze. I feel like a squirrel at the edge of death. ‘That’s ridiculous,’ I sign in response. ‘He brought down the walls of Eris. He hates our kind. How could he be a part of something he hates wholeheartedly?’

Saying Olivia and the King are mates is already unbelievable enough. But saying he is a Fae? It makes no sense.

How can he be a Fae, yet resent his own kind? Besides, it is common knowledge that King Sven is a hybrid. His father was too.

“You see, Kyle. I truly think Sven is a Fae, and I have reasons to. Which is exactly where you and your sister come in. I know Faes can recognise other Faes, especially those who have awoken their Fae energy.”

‘And Olivia does not want to help?’

“She keeps denying it.”

‘If she does, then does it not mean he isn’t a Fae then?’

“The thing is, I think she is lying. She also hasn’t awoken her Fae energy, which is surprising considering you have. Her match today was also a total fluke.”

I frown, stuck at the information about Olivia not awakening her Fae energy. It is more than surprising.

Olivia should have awoken it at the same time I awoke mine since we are twins.

‘That should be impossible,’ I sign.

“Quite unfortunate since it gives her a huge disadvantage against the Ripper Ghost, but even with it she was bound to lose anyway. So Kyle,” He says, voice getting deeper as he takes a step forward, “help me find out if Sven is a Fae and I promise to help save your sister before her match against the Ripper Ghost. Not only that, but I also promise to help you with a cure for the poison. We both know Katniss is wasting her time out there looking for a cure, because she does not even know the kind of poison circulating inside of you. Trust me, Kyle, I would heal you and get both you and your sister into the Kingdom of Eldians. What do you say?”

I cough again as I begin to sign. ‘And if I say no?’

Orion tilts his head slightly and smiles wickedly. “I let the poison finish its job or I let my hybrid make it faster while Olivia faces up against the Ripper Ghost and gets torn to shreds. I wouldn’t say no if I were you.”

I really have no choice here. Because I am literally choosing between mine and my sister’s death and our freedom. There is only one answer.

Still, the thought of King Sven being a Fae is absurd. Unthinkable. Also being Olivia mate? What exactly are the goddesses doing?

I sigh as I take my lower lips between my teeth. Even if I want to read King Sven energy, I cannot because I do not even know how to control my shitty Fae energy. Ever since the day I used it against the guards and Nico, I haven’t felt it again.

But I do not even know how to tell that to the man in front of me.

‘I will help you,’ I sign, being left with no choice.

Orion face breaks out into a huge grin that it takes up half of his face, his ocean blue-eyes gleaming in the dim light of the room. “Finally, a Fae who has the sense to understand a good deal when they are offered one. So, how exactly does the Fae energy recognition thing work?”

I do not know that, but I don’t say that. Instead, I lie. ‘I need to see him physically or a strand of his hair or something.’

Orion’s grin disappears, replaced by a perplexed look. And it makes my stomach churn. I wonder if my lie already gave me away that I have no idea how to control my Fae energy or how to detect other Faes. Then, he sighs. “Getting his hair would be difficult. But letting you get near him would mean risking my only hope of ever bringing him down entirely. Let me think about this, Kyle. Rest well.”

He does not hesitate to leave the room after, and with my whole body in pain, I barely think about anything as I go to sleep.

“Kyle, wake up!” A voice wakes me up.

I open my eyes, immediately hit by a bount of headache. My entire clothes are drenched in my own sweat.

“Good news!” Katniss whispers-screams in my face.

I cough, turning my head to properly look at her as I sit upright. She holds a bottle in her hand, one with eligible words written on it but I cannot clearly see it. ‘What time is it?’

“You slept through dinner yesterday night. It’s morning already,” she says, nudging her head towards the window.

I stare at it and see the sun gradually breaking through.

“Either way, I have good news,” she says, bringing my attention back to her. She holds the bottle to my face — the word cure written on it. “Someone handed this to me in the forest.”

‘What? And you took it? Are you an idiot??’ I sign, panicking. I am almost tempted to grab the bottle from her hands and smash it to the floor.

Katniss pouts as she drops the bottle on the bed. She crosses her arms around her chest. “The person said Olivia sent it.”

I frown. ‘Did you see the person face?’

“No. But the voice sounded like a man. He said Olivia sent him the cure for your poison and since she has awoken her Fae energy she can tell where you are.”

My frown deepens.

Something isn’t right. Orion told me Olivia hasn’t awoken her Fae energy yet, so which is it?

I pick the bottle and scrutinise it. Well, it definitely does not look like something that can kill me before the poison inside of me does.

I bring it to my nose, inhaling the smell and I can definitely catch the lingering scent of Fae energy which for a moment makes me think the bottle was indeed sent by Olivia — which would mean Orion is lying, but there is another smell there. One that smells of Sandalwood.

And Olivia does not smell of Sandalwood.
