CELESTE
“Georgette,” I whispered, feeling my voice crack because I was so surprised.
She looked terrible, there was not even a hint of that sweet angelic face that she once had, she really seemed to be out of her mind with her lost gaze and the slight twitching of her left eye.
"Celeste," she replied, her voice like that of thousands of breaking glass, "did you think I would be so stupid to run away without first coming for the last one I was missing? It's so easy to distract attention, do you think I was alone?"
She started to get closer to me, my stomach tightened, I felt like my heart was going to come out through her mouth.
"Don't do this," I said, knowing that I had nothing here to defend myself with other than kitchen utensils, "you have no reason..."
"Don't have? "She repeated mockingly, "Of course I have her, because of you they locked me up, and no one can get it out of my head that the baby I lost was because of you, because you killed her father!"
She still thought about that homicide in the church where her boyfriend was murdered, but it wasn't me, it was the former police officer Josue, a mentally unstable man who took it upon himself to deceive us all and who almost killed me.
"It wasn't me," I blurted out.
"Of course, of course it was you! "She shouted, "it's your fault and your disgusting generation! Your whole family, everyone who is involved in that diabolical plan deserves death before they end the world. I am the one sent to cleanse the earth!"
I looked at her as if she had loosened a screw, this woman was not right in the head.
"Georgette," I said, trying to reason with her, "you're surrounded by police, they're going to catch you."
"Let them do it," she said, "in the same way I only have one person left to eliminate."
She rushed at me with the knife and I let out a loud scream as she threw the plate on top of her with the hot sandwich; It fell on her face but she pushed it away and continued chasing me, I took the first thing I found to defend myself; a spoon, I stuck it between us when the knife was going straight towards my face, I managed to deflect it from her but she stabbed me in her shoulder in a painful way.
I kicked her in the chest which made her retreat just as the kitchen door opened, many people came in but it was Freddy who jumped in to get Gerogette off of me, and they both fell to one side of the floor, she took the lead again. knife and stabbed Freddy in the abdomen.
"Freddy!" I shouted.
Many screams were heard, there was a lot of commotion outside, Georgette prepared to stab Freddy again but then Angelo took out the gun and shot Georgette three times straight in the chest, she gasped and fell to the floor in a matter of seconds.
**************
I entered the room where Freddy was with a balloon and some donuts, the wound in his abdomen had not been serious fortunately, but he had still been hospitalized for a few days, my wound had not been that serious either, a minimal suture in the shoulder .
"How are you?" I said leaving the balloon on the side of the table, he opened his eyes blinking a few times as if he had been sleeping for a long time.
“Hello, Celeste,” he murmured, his face still icy, his attitude still annoying.
"Do you feel better?" I asked for.
"Yes, you don't have to look at me like that," he growled, "I know you chose and went for the married brother." I do not want your hurt.
I took a deep breath.
"It's complicated, you know that his wife is practically..."
"Still married." he interrupted me.
I bit my lips.
"I'm sorry," I said, "I just came to check on you."
"You saw me." He replied.
Damn he and Angelo were definitely brothers, they always took the same hostile attitude when they were angry.
The nurse entered the room carrying some medications.
"Hello Freddy, it's time to change your medication," she said.
Freddy looked at her and raised both eyebrows when he saw how pretty she was; blonde and red lips.
"I hadn't seen you," said Freddy, "how do you know my name?"
"I'm a psychic," the nurse answered and winked at him. Freddy's eyes shone.
"That's interesting, I always liked psychics." he said, the nurse laughed.
I left the room knowing that there was more than enough there, at least he had found someone else and he would surely forget what happened between the two of them.
I was on my way to the exit when I met Angelo in the hallway. He was dressed in his uniform that made his muscles stand out very well. He was distracted by his cell phone, but maybe he noticed my gaze because he looked up at me and stretched the corner of his mouth into a slight smile when he recognized me.
"Hey," he said, stopping in front of me.
“Hello,” I said, feeling my stomach turn and my cheeks get hot just from seeing him.
These last few days being alone in the apartment while we were fixing things before leaving we had gotten closer, Angelo made an effort to treat me well, to be sweet and very protective of me and of course, in intimacy we didn't seem to get tired of each other, We could barely leave the room and since there were no longer walls dividing us, everything flowed naturally.
"Celeste, weren't you getting your things ready for the flight?" He asked.
I already had my bags ready to go meet my son, but I wanted to meet Freddy.
"I wanted to go see Freddy," I explained, "but he didn't want to see me, so I think he fell in love with the nurse."
He laughed a little, I was already getting used to his laugh and his relaxed face, he made me smile for no reason.
"Freddy is one of those who falls in love very quickly," he said, "he doesn't usually mourn a possible failed relationship, he simply likes drama."
We laughed staring at each other, and then in a moment our laughter died down while still holding each other's gaze, he leaned towards me to kiss me sweetly on the lips, a kiss that warmed me up, but he separated too quickly for my liking.
"What will happen now?" I asked, I hadn't left yet and I felt like I missed him.
"It's still too quick to talk about it but he," he said, "do you want to move in with me?"
I frowned.
"With Freddy and your wife? No."
"Freddy is going to leave..."
"I don't think it's as convenient," I said, "it's like a lack of respect..."
That is, his wife still lived in his house and he could be almost unconscious, but she was still his wife, it would be awkward and he wouldn't know how to explain it to William.
"Don't take me away from him," he asked and I could see in his eyes the fear that I would disappear again.
"You can come visit him whenever you want," I said, "I won't put any restrictions on you."
He pursed his lips in discontent but finally leaned towards me and kissed me again.
"Goodbye, Celeste." He murmured.
"Goodbye, Angelo." I whispered.
I smiled at him and when I was going to leave, he received a call, his brow furrowed.
"She's my wife's nurse," he murmured, slightly confused, and answered: "What's wrong?"
I looked at him wanting to know if everything was okay. But he put a hand to his head, and his breath was taken away.
"This morning? Damn..." he whispered in a low voice, "Don't worry, call an ambulance, they will call the coroner."
He didn't need to tell me to know that his wife...had died.
