Chapter 84 Enemy to Stella
AKIRA
I was fast realizing a lot of things. Not everything was as it seemed in this world of immense wealth, and whatever you had could be taken away from you in a flash.
" Did you make sure it was sent to them?" I asked Narim.
He rolled his eyes, taking a puff from the cigarette he now somehow loved so much.
" Don't you trust me? I stood there and watched them open the box too. They definitely got the message" he said.
I nodded. Good.
" I heard that Leon's company is fast running into debt. What are you doing to secure it for us?" I asked.
" Come on. You know Leon is not someone you can just buy over like that. He has too much pride and even though the stock holders are at his neck to sell the company, he won't."
I nodded, again, calming myself with the rapid ticking of the clock a few feet away from me.
" Then we don't have to tell him that we want to buy it. We can just tell him we want to invest in it, and then, we can have him take the bait."
" What about Karina? You said you found out something useful" he said.
I wondered if I could trust him.
My mind flashed back to that minute in the bathroom when I had caught the both of them talking about something. Something that Loretta was not supposed to find out about.
It was then it hit me.
I could trust no one.
" It's nothing. Nothing useful has been done yet." I said, bashing his words quickly.
If I was going to help Loretta, I needed to do it on my own.
I saw a flash in narim's eyes, something I was not used to seeing him give me.
" You know...you are a very smart woman. I wonder how it all ended this way for you".
This time around, I did not pay attention.
" I don't need your compliments. So get started on them immediately" I said.
The minute he left the room, I felt the wave of nausea hit me, and I knew she, wanted to take over.
Lilian's POV
The breeze on my skin actually felt nice. For once, it felt good to be out of her body and having control of it once again.
I scanned through the papers on her desk.
Nothing particularly stood out except her schedule for the day.
She had golf practice with those stuck up bitches narim wants us to suck up to.
Well...I guess I have to go play golf.
For once since I have come in contact with Akira, I was glad that she actually had a faint sense of style. The golf outfit was almost to my taste, the skirt flow too immaculate to pass by.
" You are finally here! Dont you understand the usefulness of being punctual?"Karina yelled from across the field.
She swung her golf club in my direction, her assistant ducking as the club narrowly misses his eyes.
Behind her were the rest of the women, Including Mia and Hazel. The moment they laid their eyes on me, they seemed to pale as they cleared their throat, focusing on random golf balls that were not out of place.
Perhaps I should confront them.
I bit my tongue.
" I had work to do. I had to come late. What matters is in here now right?"
Karina hummed, throwing her head back haughtily like the proud wench that she is.
" Well since you have not done this before, and since I'm not about to have you embarrass my entire family with your stupid swinging skills at the golf event so I will be taking it upon myself to train you today".
But I was not Akira. Akira was the weak and stupid one with zero skills.
I, on the other hand, have mastered the art of golf since I was nine.
" Sure. Let me see your first swing " I said to her, just to taunt her.
Maybe she realized this, or maybe she was too self absorbed to care really, but she swung, her ball flying as it soared through the sky and directly into the pit.
A smile of victory wove into her face as she grunted.
" You see what I'm saying? I'm a pro at this. But you don't have to be intimidated. I can help you out"
I scoffed inwardly.
Her posture was too loose, she had her elbow settled too forward and it led to her ball travelling slowly.
She was good. But not as good as me.
" Oh no, I'm so scared that I will never be able to beat the almighty Karina" I said, setting my ball down.
She scoffed.
" Wait, are you mocking me?"
" No...I'm just thinking out loud. It's a thing people with brains do"
I bit my tongue deeper. Shit. I could not afford to piss her off. Akira will never let me near her again.
But surprisingly, she was not pissed. Instead, she nodded, clearing the path for me to swing.
I stared at the ball, building the connection, my eyes calm.
I took a deep breath and slowly, I hit it.
The ball travelled, fast and rough through the sky, landing gracefully into the hole.
Her eyes widened.
" Wait what?! I thought you said you had no practice?? So how could you score a ten points on your first try? Beginner's luck?"
I hummed.
" You can call it that. Whatever makes you sleep at night".
Before she could retaliate, a voice sounded from behind us, notifying me of the trouble I was now in.
And clearly, Karina did not like her too because she grunted in irritation before turning to look at her.
" I heard your engagement was in shambles Stella, is that why you are trying to ruin my day for me?"
