Chapter 41 Leon's sly
AKIRA
It did not matter how long I have been standing there. What mattered was the bullets that seemed to miss me every time he fired.
I held my breath, feeling the bullets hit the wall behind me, that pretty fountain I had admired for a millisecond before I stepped into the house, that little vase that was supposed to be unnoticeable but now stood in the spotlight, shattered.
I was surprised I was not crying. I was too stunned to cry.
He tried to shoot again and the gun clicked.
No more bullets.
He grunted, as if blaming me for his terrible aim as he waived me away with the butt of the gun.
" Okay then, that's it. Get going before I change my mind and actually hit that pretty face of yours"
Dismissal felt like bliss. I wanted nothing more to run back to my car and get far away from this wretched place.
But my legs were glued to the ground in that firm confidence I had recently just discovered and my lips pursed.
He stared at me, head turned to the side as though studying me.
" This is the part where you turn around and scamper away from my goddamn property" he said.
I wanted to tell him how badly I wanted to, but my legs remained glued to the ground by an Invisible force.
And instead of apologies or pleas,my mouth had other plans.
" Now with that out of the way, can we go down to business?" My voice was sickly sweet when I took my seat, almost grinning.
His own brows furrowed in surprise.
His eyes seemed to darken for a minute and for that brief minute, I could have sworn my heart stopped.
Then he burst into a laugh.
" For a woman who everyone wants to bring down, you sure do have a lot of courage. When I heard of the infamous Akira, I was expecting someone weak and scrawny.
But you...what do you want?"
This was it. He was giving me a chance to speak.
I cleared my throat, clutching the proposal file I had made hurriedly on my way here, handing it over to him.
" You pulled out of the Silvio's company and losing you means losing a great asset for the Silvio empire.
I am concerned if our staff has annoyed you or come short in any way so we can fix it but before that, I took a look at your contract with the company and I decided to add more appetizing deals to it.
You should take a look at it, I can assure you that it's worth every second of your time."
My eyes twitched with nerves as he picked it up, that unruly smirk on his face as he picked up the lighter beside him, and before I could say another word, he burnt it, watching the paper erupt into flames before his eyes.
My breath jostled. This man was a pure maniac.
He turned to look at me again,.eyes more focused now.
" You should know by now that I don't care about my company. I don't even run it. It's mostly run by my personal assistant even though i still have the final say.
I'm not interested in your useless contracts because I'm sure it will never be able to satisfy me anyways. Just tell me what you want".
I heaved a small sigh internally.
" Most of my clients pulled out of my company when you did. If I can win you back, I know that the rest of them will come back. Please. Whatever it takes, my company is not ready to lose you"
Again, he chuckled, staring at me with unreadable eyes.
" You know you are nothing like what the news says you are. No one made it this far without having an appointment with me first.
Fine then. I will come back to your company and make sure everyone else does too.."
My heart leapt for joy.
Was it truly over now? Did I win?
" Thank you so much sir! I will make sure not to disappoint me" I said, unable to contain my excitement again.
He hummed, nodding.
" I guess Leon was wrong about you anyways." He said.
I stopped short.
Leon?!
" Did he do this?" I asked , that joy fast turning into unhinged anger.
" He did nothing..he just advised me and I took his advice because he was good at bowling. But I guess he was wrong"
Leon. Im going to kill him.
" If you would excuse me sir, I have to get going" i said, noting how stiff my tone felt now as I walked past him and into my car.
The only word going on and on in my head was anger. The unhinged anger towards him,.hating him, and wanting him dead.
The car parked in his building and before the driver killed his engine, I had bolted out, my steps quick as I walked over to the elevator.
The receptionist caught my eyes just in time, rushing over to me as the elevator door closed.
" Miss Akira stop! You don't have an appointment"
I did not know if she could tell how angry I was, or maybe it was the stare that I gave her, but she did not pursue any further.
The company was huge, I knew that, so it took a bit of a while to find him talking to a group of workers, smiling like he was not available for all the chaos in my life.
"Leon!" I yelled causing him to turn to look at me, and when he did, I did not wait. My hand landed firm on his cheeks, deafing him, shutting the crowd up, eyes furrowed in surprise, his own, livid.
" How dare..." He was beginning to say but one slap was not enough. He deserved one more.
And I raised my second hand, bringing it heavily on his cheeks, again.
