Chapter 36 In the body of revenge

When the knock came, it was uncertain and harmless, like whoever was knocking wanted to make sure it was okay to come in before they did.
I sat in the car uncomfortably, wondering why I had allowed Nadia place that call to them. Now they were dragging me back to my world, my world where everyone hated me and everyone wanted me dead.
Bryan nearly ripped the car door open as he looked around the car in urgency before his eyes finally found mine. He seemed to let out a sigh I did not realize he had been holding, his eyes roaming mine as gulped.
I expected him to do a lot of things. Scream at me for leaving to meet Eve that late at night and nearly getting myself killed, maybe yell at me to make himself feel better.
But he did none of that.
His breathe felt raggedy as he gathered me into his arms, holding on tightly like it would kill him to let go of me.
" Don't ever do that okay? Don't leave without telling me, please don't. I can't stand it".
The more he murmured those words, the more my heart beat swelled.
I did not want to think about it, but I hated how hard my heart pounded the more he talked.
" Am I interrupting something?" A voice said from behind us, causing us to pull away quickly.
Eve.
She had a smug smile on her face as though she has expected me to come back, her eyes practically begging me to spill her secret.
I did not know what came over me. Maybe I was still suffering a concussion from the fall, but I got up, pushing past Bryan and in front of everyone that has come to sympathize with me and welcome me home, I slapped her, hard.
For a minute, the whole world seemed to fall quiet and everyone was at a loss on how to process this new happening.
I stared at her for a long nagging second, eyes burning with rage.
" You pushed me off that goddamn cliff" I said to her, earning gasps from the people around.
She clutched her cheeks in surprise. Just like her, I was stunned too. Where did this courage of mine come from?
" How dare you lay your filthy hands on me?!" She yelled, trying to claw at my hair but I waived her away, my hands pulling at her own hair and this time around again, landing another slap on her face.
" Miss Akira!" One of the people in the crowd gasped but i did not mind.
I gave Bryan a once over. He was standing there, hands in pocket and a soft smile on his face like he was witnessing a moment he would forever be proud of.
Yes. I don't know what happened to me when I fell, but I felt surprisingly daring, bold.
Eve stared at me in shock, her body shaking with rage.
" You won't get away with it"
I huffed.
" You too. You will be getting to hear from my lawyer very soon. And I will make sure you pay for attempting to kill me"
The eyes of everyone was one the both of us now but I did not mind.
She did.
" You will pay for this" she seethed.
" I think I don't have to inform you again that your contract with my company has been terminated. I will never work with someone as deceptive as you. So don't even bother".
" You can't do that! The contract is signed already!" She yelled.
She looked almost like a lunatic, her eyes blazing as she yelled.
" I can. And you will be seeing my lawyer in regards to that soon"
She turned around realizing that she had failed, hands still clutching her cheeks.
Her footsteps were quick as she walked over to her car, driving off almost immediately.
" You seem....different" Bryan noted.
I shurgged.
" Maybe what I needed was to fall off a cliff. I'm ready for revenge now. I am sick and tired of them walking all over me. I'm tired of being weak. I could have died that day. What if I had died? Then it would have all been for nothing. I can't do that any more. I will make all of them pay for it"
He was pleased. I could tell from the way he smiled with his eyes at me.
" It took you long enough. Don't worry, I will make sure you have everything you need to work. " He said.
Brielle was next. She did not wait for me to come to her, her steps faltered as she walked over to where I stood, her hands shaking.
" I just wanted to say that my aiding her was a mistake. She told me that she will be giving you a warning and that's it. I had no idea she would try to...."
Words failed her as she pursee her lips, refusing to meet my eyes.
I was happy that I made her feel that way. I wanted her to understand the gravity of her actions.
" I will be filing a case against you too and you will be speaking with my lawyer very soon" I said.
I hated that seeing her face pale gave me joy beyond understanding. This was what I loved to see.
" And you are also fired" Bryan added.
That was when the first tear dropped. And after that, it became nearly unstoppable.
I turned to look at Nadia, her own smirking face showing that she enjoyed it just as much as I did.
" Well good luck to you then. I have to get back home and help mum make dinner" she said.
I shook my head.
"What if I told you I want to offer you a job?" I asked.
Her lips parted in a gasp.
" Wait.... really?"
I nodded.
" Leon posted an advert about needing a new personal assistant a few days ago. The interview is on Monday. I want you to apply and get the job so you can work as a spy for me. I will reward you handsomely too. What do you say?"
