Chapter 114 To marry or not to marry

Chapter 114 To marry or not to marry
AKIRA

The news of her death was the first thing that woke me up that day..or perhaps it has been the nagging headache that accompanied the nightmare I had. I could not breathe. It somehow felt like my body was on fire and still yet, the shower felt too cold to step into it.

And that was when Bryan had sat with me.

" She was killed in jail. I think that mad man paid someone to kill her before he died. He had it all planned out. Her body is being taken back to the mortuary now and they want to know if you want to give her a burial or not. If not, they are willing to do a mass burial for her alongside other criminals."

Criminals...

I hated that woman. From the first day I could understand words she has made it known that she hated me and would prefer a male child to me.

It was no news that I was a burden that she tried to dispose of every chance she got. But that did not change how I felt...she was still my mother.

" No. We should bury her" I had said.

And even when I stood in her grave, watching her body being lowered, everybody dry eyed, most just there as a show of respect for me rather than her, I still could not understand why my life fell so quickly.

But what mattered was I had won. I did not win perfect. But I won regardless.

" Akira! Are you listening to me?" Nadia asked, tapping me back into consciousness.

Suddenly I was not standing in front of my mom's grave, I was in an office with ministers that stared at me with expectations in their eyes.

I cleared my throat.

" As I was saying. I am here to reclaim my father's company and I have the documents present and everything that is needed to call the company my own. The hand over will be smooth because I already had Mr Leon sign over the company to me from prison. If there are any questions or oppositions, I will like to hear them so they can be settled now before we progress to the next stage." I said.

No one said anything and Instead, a man burst into a wide smile, nodding his head softly.

" Welcome back home miss Akira. We are pleased to have you back and please, tell us what ever it is you need to make your journey smoother"

I was surprised, but not overwhelmed. It was something I had anticipated. Their cooperation.

When I left the conference room, the gust of fresh air hit me first.

" And what else do I have to do for today?" I asked Nadia who had now become my personal assistant and helped mainly in running both companies I now had to my name"

" Nothing else. Just your dinner date with Mr Bryan. You said you wanted to get a new dress to wear to it so I had the fashion designers pick out a few things you might like"

My head felt heavy.

" Okay. Thank you so much for that, I will see to it"

Date night with Bryan...

I loved that man. It was not the way he took care of me or the way he made me feel like I was the only one present whenever we were together. But it was the Intentionality and the manner in which he held me to his heart.

Yes I loved that man. And I knew today he was going to propose. I could feel it in the air.

But what I did not know, is if I wanted to marry him.

" The steak here is very good. Maybe you can try that dessert you said you saw online? I heard they offer it here too"

I tried to draw my mind back to the date at hand. Me and him, date night.

"Yes, let's just order and get a seat. My toes are killing me and these shoes are not making it better" I managed to say between gritted teeth and a fake smile.

" Yes of course"

Through out the dinner, I could hear him talking, but I was not present. My body did not resound with his voice the way it did and I did not want to hear the words I knew would come next.

" Are you sure you are okay baby? We can go home if you want and you don't have to stay here you know" he said but I shook my head quickly.

" Oh no no..we can totally stay here, I'm just having a bit of a headache that's all".

The waiter finally brought the cake, placing it in front of me,a small smile that I knew all too well in his eyes.

" Enjoy the cake miss. " He said, almost too knowingly.

I had digged only a few spoons from the cake when I saw the box.

No...no.

Bryan gently collected the box from me, his eyes fixed on me as he pulled out the ring.

For a minute, all I could do was stare at the ring. It was a beautiful diamond ring, simple and yet elegant in the most unnatural way.

" Akira, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me in my entire life. It's not just you. It's the way you talk,n the way you laugh and the feeling you leave in my belly when you are gone. I know I want to spend the rest of my life with you if you just let me.

So please, will you do me the honors of being my wife? Forever?"

I sighed.

I hated myself.

"No..." I said .
