Chapter 111 The end of Leon
Chapter 111 The end of Leon
~BRYAN ~
Her voice seemed to crack when she spoke and her hands trembled slightly, but she was fine. My baby had come back to me and she looked healthy.
" We have to go back. There is a man there. He is malnourished and starved and he won't be able to survive the night if they find out I have gone. So we have to go back for him now" she kept repeating over and over as I grabbed her hands, trying to steady her and understand what she was saying.
" You have to calm down! What is going on?" I said, trying to shake her awake, her mindless ramble cutting through my heart and scaring me.
She ran her hands through her hair angrily, the kind of look she would give to show I was not listening to her plastered on her face.
" Why the hell are you not listening to me?! I said he is going to be killed. He helped me escape so I can't just let him be killed like that".
The tears welled in her eyes and my heart broke. I was going to kill Leon.
" You have to rest miss, please come with us. We will get you to safety and you can get some sleep and have your body tested" one of the police women that came along with us said.
By now, the whole area where she has been found looked like a crime scene with officers poking through the grasses to find whatever clues they could.
" I don't want safety. Are you guys not listening to me?! A man could lose his life! He could die! So please....I beg you."
I ran my hands through my hair in frustration. Whatever she wanted, I knew she was not going to stop until she got it.
" How about this, you tell me the route to the house and I will get there and make sure I save that man even if it's the last thing I do. But you have to promise me that you will go with them. I cannot have you near Leon again, I cannot have you anywhere near danger again for my sanity. Please..."
She bit her lips, eyes tired and I could see the reluctance flicker in them for a brief moment but then she sighed.
" You promise to find him?" She asked.
" If it's the last thing I do" I said.
She pulled me closer, hands wrapping around my neck as she whispered gently in my ears.
" Also, it's not Leon. It was never Leon. Leon was just a pawn. The main villain is my step brother. He should be there, I will explain everything to you when you get back"
When she pulled away, hands now in the police officer's, her eyes turning to look at me for a brief second, I could not believe that was true.
There was no way.
The road to the warehouse she described was steep. Too steep. The grasses and bushes has long overgrown, covering whatever path that could have been formed and there was no sigh of life, or of a car ever passing down that route.
And surprisingly, she was right, because we came to a huge building that was painted black to the touch, almost disappearing into the night if we did not have a torch.
" Who the hell paints their house all black?" One officer exclImed, staring at it in the distance like it was the cave of the devil itself.
" Someone who defies the laws of the world" another officer breathed.
That was when it hit my nose. The unyielding smell of smoke and burning grass.
" Shit! The house is on fire!" One officer called, snapping all of us out of our reverie.
I moved quickly.
I should have known. This was a classic technique for Mafia lords when they have the idea that they would be found out. Burn everything and leave no trace.
My feet were nimble as I rushed through the burning house, looking for the man she has mentioned, the whole house empty and the furniture already catching up with the flames.
" Mr Bryan is in the furnace already!" I could hear one of my men scream outside but I did not care. I had to find him.
I searched every room and corner, the fire spreading wildly as the smell of gasoline hit my nose.
Shit. This whole place was going to blow on a couple of minutes.
And finally, I found the small secluded room.
But no one was inside. Just decaying flesh and a skeleton.
On closer examination, I realized it was a human. That could have been living a few hours ago. But his body was now so emancipated, he looked nothing short of a miracle to even be alive.
But now...he was dead.
I gathered the sack of bones in my hands as I rushed through the burning door, the smoke tickling my senses and stinging my eyes as I ran through, body aching in the room.
Fire surrounded every corner and turned and slowly, I realized I was trapped.
I pushed and pulled on a window until finally, it gave way, shattering and sending shards of glass clocking out the frame and missing my body by mere inches.
But it opened, and fresh air suddenly rushed in.
I stepped out, still clutching the dead humans as the fresh air rushed through my lungs, threatening to knock me out as I took in deep breaths over and over again.
" Mr Bryan is here! We need oxygen!"
" We found him sir! We found Leon!"
The voices are rowdy but amidst all of them I heard what mattered to me the most.
That bastard, Leon. He has been found.
Behind me, I watched them push him into a car, his eyes turning to stare at me and smirk one last time before the door shut close.
