Ella Rossi sat at the dining table, the bitter taste of the medicine she just took still lingering in her mouth despite the water she drank.
Her long hair flowed down her back, her skin glowing with health, and her silk pajamas hugged her figure perfectly.
It was Valentine's Day. Last month, when she came back to the Smith Villa, Arthur Smith had promised he'd be home to spend it with her.
As the sky outside darkened, Arthur still hadn't shown up.
After a moment of hesitation, she dialed his number.
It rang for what felt like forever.
Just as she was about to hang up, someone answered.
"Hello? Who is this?" A woman's voice.
Ella stammered, "I must have dialed the wrong number, sorry."
Just as she was about to hang up, she heard Arthur's voice, "Who was that?"
"She said she called the wrong number."
And then the call ended.
Staring at the familiar number on the screen, Ella knew she hadn't dialed wrong.
The woman's voice was unmistakable; it was Ava Davis, the woman Arthur had always had a thing for.
Ava had just come back to the country last month, and it seemed like she and Arthur had reconnected pretty quickly. No wonder he'd been leaving early and coming home late recently.
Looking at the table full of food, Ella managed a bitter smile.
To be healthier and get pregnant, she'd been taking medicine year after year.
But sadly, Arthur didn't even want to sleep with her. Every time they had sex, it felt like he was just going through the motions.
For today, she'd gone all out. A month ago, she started learning to cook from the housekeeper.
He probably wouldn't come back today, would he?
Deep down, Ella knew he wouldn't come back even on such an important day, but she still held onto a sliver of hope for Arthur.
"Just wait for him tonight," Ella murmured.
The clock on the wall ticked away, and the hands moved past midnight.
Arthur still hadn't returned, and Ella sat at the dining table all night.
As Valentine's Day passed, she finally went back to the bedroom, disappointed.
All night, Ella couldn't sleep; her mind was filled with thoughts of Arthur.
The Rossi family and the Smith family went way back, and Arthur's grandmother, Sophia Wilson, liked her a lot. It was Sophia who brought Arthur and Ella together.
When she first found out she was going to marry Arthur, she was excited for an entire night.
It was all because of this well-kept little secret. When she met Arthur at eighteen, she had fallen for him hard.
She thought marrying Arthur was a dream come true, but didn't expect him to have a thing for Ava.
Back then, because Sophia didn't like Ava, she forced her and Arthur apart by giving Ava money.
In the end, Ava took the money and went abroad, which gave Ella the chance to marry Arthur.
They'd been married for five years, but their relationship was more like that of strangers.
This time, she didn't want to hold on anymore.
She didn't know how long it had been before she fell asleep, and even in her dreams, everything was about Arthur.
In the middle of the night, a large hand touched her shoulder.
Under the dim light, Ella's figure was particularly alluring.
Arthur, reeking of alcohol, leaned in close, kissed her ear, and let his hand wander down, finally stopping at her most intimate spot.
By now, Ella was wide awake.
Arthur knew her body well and could easily ignite her desires.
"If you're awake, don't pretend to be asleep," Arthur said, grabbing Ella and laying her flat on the bed.
He roughly tore off her nightgown and unbuckled his belt with one hand.
He released himself and, without a second thought, thrust into her with reckless force.
Without any foreplay, Ella was dry and unprepared.
She couldn't handle the violent thrust and cried out as he entered her body.
"Arthur, slow down, it hurts," Ella pleaded, pushing against his chest.
Arthur chuckled and leaned over her.
One hand pinned her hands above her head, while the other teased her nipple, which gradually responded to the stimulation.
Ella whimpered, her resistance fading.
Sensing her arousal, Arthur began to thrust harder, each movement hitting her deep.
"Ava..." Arthur mumbled, drunk and unaware.
Ella stiffened, her desire vanishing instantly.
He was treating her like she was Ava.
Feeling Arthur's growing arousal, Ella felt a wave of disgust.
She struggled violently. "Arthur, you bastard, look at who I am!"
Her efforts were futile. Arthur commanded, "Don't move! Turn around and kneel."
She knew Arthur liked this position, and she used to comply willingly.
But now, she just wanted it to be over.
Arthur withdrew, leaving the sheets soaked.
Without waiting for her response, he grabbed her waist and lifted her to the edge of the bed.
Seeing her attempt to escape, Arthur held her slender waist with one hand and guided himself back in with the other.
Then came a series of violent thrusts, the sound of their union echoing in the quiet room.
Ella knew she couldn't escape. Tears welled up in her eyes as she endured it all.
Despite Arthur's roughness, she couldn't deny a trace of pleasure.
She bit her lip, trying not to make any more embarrassing sounds.
She didn't know how long it had been before Arthur paused briefly, then began thrusting even more violently.
Ella couldn't help but cry out, her voice soft and low.
If he hadn't been holding her waist, she would have collapsed from exhaustion.
After what felt like an eternity, Arthur finished, releasing himself inside her.
Ella's body trembled, taking a while to calm down.
Afterward, Arthur grabbed some tissues to clean up, while Ella lay weakly on the bed.
It took her a while to gather the strength to walk to the bathroom, her legs shaking, and she cleaned herself up.
Looking at herself in the mirror, her cheeks were flushed.
Returning to the bedroom, Ella lay back down, and Arthur had already settled in bed.
Seeing her return, he moved closer and fed her the medicine.
Every time after they had sex, Arthur always gave her birth control pills to prevent pregnancy.
This time, Arthur was very drunk. After putting the pill in her mouth, he lay back down.
Ella hesitated for a moment, then grabbed a tissue and spat it out.
She wanted a child, hoping that maybe this time, she would get pregnant.
