205. CHAOS
205. CHAOS
KADE
"Er—guys—Spencer really wants to be the one to walk her down the aisle," Layla said, surprising everyone, including my wife.
Spencer is Layla's best friend. Her best friends became close to Seline. He is also handling their firm's digital marketing. But I never thought he would become so close that he would want to walk her down the aisle.
Hell, I didn't even expect that from Kai either.
Speaking of which, Kai looked murderous. So does Zaley.
"Why do you look so murderous?"
Seline asked me.
Apparently, I look the same.
"She is my wife. She doesn't need anyone to walk her down the aisle. I'll do that."
Lilly slapped her forehead. "You knew everything half, Uncle Kade."
"Half, half." Luna sang.
"Seline's dad has to walk her down." She turned towards Kai, "You are the groom's dad. Not bride's. Spencer can't walk her." She lifted a tiny finger and shook it, "You can't do that either, Daddy. You have to walk Luna and me when we get married."
Luna gasped, "I get mawwied?"
"You are not getting married," Zaley said. Kai said at once.
There we go again.
Right then, Seline's phone rang, flashing Cillian's name. He has been trying to mend his relationship with Seline for a long time.
Seline sighed before picking it.
"Hana..." Lilly shouted when the front door opened.
"Ana...." Luna followed.
"Uncle Kade is getting married."
"You are not planning another marriage without consulting me first," Kai warned.
He really looked pissed. Another man would have cowered in front of him. But I saw the way he argued with Zaley about who should walk Seline down the aisle.
Kai has changed. To be precise, he has retired.
"This isn't why I called you." I looked at Zaley, "I didn't call you at all."
"I go wherever my girls go." He looked bored and annoyed, as if he couldn't wait to get out of this house.
Honestly, that's what I want. For all of them to get the hell out of here.
"Someone lured Seline into Nina's house and left the evidence of what I did to her."
"Who the fuck is Nina, and what the fuck did you do?" Zaley asked immediately. He doesn't look bored anymore.
There's an accusation in his tone, "Are you cheating on Seline. I swear—"
"Nina is Kade's mother," Kai said, interrupting Zaley. "Why would anyone do that?"
Zaley stayed silent for ten seconds. Just ten seconds, as if he were sewing a story of his own.
"Did you kill her?" He finally asked. And that guy got it right the first time.
I rub the back of my neck, "Kind of."
Another ten seconds of silence.
"Seline knows?"
"Yes."
He nodded in understanding. "What's the thing about luring?"
"It happened right after I killed my biggest opponent for calling my wife a whore. Maybe they are trying to make Seline hate me because now the world knows what she means to me." I explained.
"Here, they are—"
"Whoever made Seline go to that house," Kai answered for me.
"Who could it be?"
"Where is Nina's father?" I asked Kai.
"He has been dead for a long time." He replied.
"Maybe he is not. No one knows what happened there except him. I saw Nina and Gloria die. But he disappeared. Maybe he didn't die."
We all thought about the possibility of a moment.
"Give me the names," Zaley said. "I will look into it. You focus on stabilising your position."
"Dante will send you everything. Investigate it. We already found the one who bribed a couple into buying that house."
And I told him everything we found so far.
"So, what's the latest? Let's go get that asshole." Zaley was already picking up his coat.
Kai has stayed suspiciously silent.
"Since when did you guys become this close?" He asked us.
Zaley and I looked at each other's faces.
God, we both want to throw up.
Thankfully, neither of us had to answer.
Because from somewhere inside the house came a crash.
A loud crash.
Followed by Lilly screaming—
“LUNA!”
Then another voice.
“NOOOOOOO!”
Kai pinched the bridge of his nose.
Zaley sighed.
I closed my eyes.
"Why does that sound expensive?" Kai asked.
"Because it is," I answered.
The three of us immediately headed toward the living room.
The closer we got, the stranger the scene became.
Lilly was standing on top of a couch.
Luna was standing on top of a coffee table.
Storm was barking.
Hana was recording everything on her phone.
And Xavier—
Xavier was standing completely motionless in the middle of the room.
Like a statue.
A very large.
Very confused.
Very bruised statue.
Xavier was looking straight ahead.
Of course.
Because looking at people was apparently optional for him.
Especially if those people were women.
Or girls.
I honestly wasn't sure where he drew the line anymore.
"Why doesn't he blink?" Lilly asked.
"I blink."
That was Xavier's first mistake.
The second he responded, Lilly's eyes lit up.
"Oh! He talks!"
"I've always talked."
Luna gasped dramatically and pointed a finger at him.
"Biig scawy man." Then she ducked beside her father.
Seline laughed and walked towards us, "He is not a scary man, Luna. He is here to protect me." She tried to explain.
"He magic."
"I am not magic." Xavier finally answered.
Luna ignored him.
"Do magic."
"I can't."
"Why?"
"Because I'm not magic."
The conversation should've ended there.
It didn't.
Because Lilly stepped closer.
Far too close.
And started examining Xavier's face.
The giant immediately looked uncomfortable.
He deserved it.
"What happened to your face?"
Xavier looked at me as if he were pleading for me to save him. If it weren't for Seline, I would have fired myself. Dante calls it illogical.
"He fell," I answered for him.
That somehow explained nothing.
Lilly pointed at Xavier.
"He doesn't smile much."
"I do."
"When?"
Xavier thought about it.
Actually thought about it.
The room went silent.
A whole ten seconds passed.
Then he answered honestly.
"I don't know."
Lilly looked stunned.
"You don't know when you smile?"
"No."
She seemed to accept that.
Then Luna scooted a little closer to Xavier.
Not invading his space.
Just curious.
"Why you so big?"
I immediately looked away.
Zaley started coughing.
Seline buried her face in a cushion.
Xavier, meanwhile, took the question very seriously.
"My father was big."
Luna nodded.
That made perfect sense to her.
"Okay. Dady. When do I become big?"
Zaley smiled and lifted her up, "Not so soon, Luna."
And just like that, my heart softened at that sight. I hope Seline gives birth to a baby girl. Not that I have anything against boys. But girls are different.
I looked at Seline, and she was looking at me, as if she was thinking about the same.
I reached out for her hand.
Zaley is explaining to Lilly and Luna that he has to step out for a bit.
I kissed Seline's forehead.
Seline signed, leaning into me. "I wish I could come with you. Argh! These babies are not letting me do my work."
"I'll do that for both of us,” I tell her.
