Chapter 197 Kingdom Anniversary

Chapter 197 Kingdom Anniversary
Elara’s POV

“The corruption is activating!” Chronax shouted. “It’s happening NOW! Not in three days! The Empress lied!”
Void energy erupted across the kingdom. Spreading. Seeking Aurora and Ember.
“Get the children!” I screamed.
But the corruption was faster. It found Ember first. Six months old. Defenseless.
Black veins spread up his tiny arm.
“NO!” Aurora threw herself over her brother. “Take me instead! I’m stronger!”
The corruption paused. Confused. Two targets. One choice.
“Both of you, RUN!” Drakon shifted to dragon. Breathed fire at the void energy.
It barely slowed.
“Mama, what do we do?” Aurora cried, holding Ember.
I realized the truth. The anniversary celebration was supposed to be three days away. But the Void Empress had moved it up. Caught us unprepared.
“We do what we planned,” I decided. “Just earlier.”
I grabbed the corruption. Let it flow into me instead of Ember.
Pain. Immediate. Overwhelming. The void burning through my veins.
Drakon grabbed it too. Taking the other half. Protecting Aurora.
“Mama! Papa! No!” Aurora screamed.
But we’d made our choice. Both of us. Together. Like always.
The corruption split. Half in me. Half in Drakon. Both children safe.
We collapsed. Fighting the void internally. Trying to stay conscious. Stay human.
“The anniversary,” I gasped. “Still happens. Kingdom needs… to see… what love costs…”
They carried us to the celebration square. Thousands gathered. Celebrating twenty years of transformation.
From divided kingdom to united. From fear to hope. From lies to trust.
“Queen Elara!” someone shouted. “King Drakon! They’re here!”
But we looked wrong. Void-corrupted. Eyes flickering red. Struggling.
“What happened?” the crowd gasped.
Aurora stepped forward. Eight years old but ancient. “My parents saved us. Took void corruption meant for me and Ember. Sacrificed themselves so we could live.”
Silence. Shocked. Horrified silence.
“Twenty years ago,” Aurora continued, voice breaking, “Mama arrived here. A seamstress pretending to be a princess. Scared. Lying. Trapped.”
“But Papa saw through the lies. Saw her. Really saw her. And chose to try. To believe. To love.”
Tears streamed down her face. “They built this. Unity. Peace. Hope. Not because it was easy. Because it was necessary. Because love demanded it.”
“And now they’re dying for it. For us. For you. For everyone.”
The crowd started crying. Thousands of people. United in grief.
“Ten years ago, they married for real,” Lily added, stepping beside Aurora. “Chose each other freely. Promised forever. Today, they’re keeping that promise. Forever together. Even in corruption. Even in void. Even in death.”
“That’s what love IS,” Aurora finished. “Not happiness. Not comfort. Sacrifice. Choosing others over yourself. Giving everything for those you love.”
The void corruption pulsed. Drakon and I both screamed. Fighting. Losing.
“I’m sorry,” I managed to tell Aurora and Ember. “Sorry we can’t… stay… watch you grow…”
“You will,” Aurora said firmly. “Because I’m going to save you.”
“Aurora, no...”
She placed her hands on me. Ember placed his tiny hands on Drakon.
“Together,” Aurora said to her brother. “Through the bond. We take the corruption. Convert it. Save them.”
“Aurora, you’ll die!” I protested.
“No we won’t. We’re convergence. We transform things. Including this.” She looked at the crowd. “Everyone. Channel your love. Your hope. Everything this kingdom built. Channel it through us. Into Mama and Papa. Help us save them.”
Thousands of people joined hands. Formed chains. Connected.
Love poured through them. Through Aurora and Ember. Into Drakon and me.
The corruption screamed. Fought. Refused to be converted.
But love was stronger.
Slowly. Painfully. The void transformed. Became light. Became balance. Became… nothing. Just empty space where corruption had been.
We gasped. Free. Saved. Alive.
Aurora and Ember collapsed. Exhausted but alive.
“They did it,” someone breathed. “The children saved their parents.”
“Full circle,” another added. “Parents protect children. Children protect parents. That’s family.”
The kingdom erupted in celebration. Real celebration now. Joy. Relief. Hope.
We’d survived. Together. All of us.
But as we held our children, I noticed something.
Aurora’s eyes had changed. No longer silver. Now one gold. One purple. Permanently split.
And Ember’s scales. No longer shifting. Now half black. Half gold. Static. Fixed.
“The conversion cost them,” Chronax said quietly. “They saved you. But lost their perfect balance. They’re locked now. Forever between light and void. Never fully either. Never fully both.”
“What does that mean?” Drakon demanded.
“It means they need to learn. How to live divided. How to function incomplete. How to be themselves when themselves is fractured.”
Aurora looked at me. “Mama? I feel… broken. Like half of me is missing.”
“Me too,” Ember said. First full sentence. Six months old and speaking. “Broken.”
“Then we teach you,” I decided. “How to live fractured. How to find wholeness even when incomplete. How to be strong even when divided.”
“How?” Aurora asked. “How do we learn that?”
“We tell you our story,” Drakon said. “From the beginning. How your mama and I were fractured too. Divided. Incomplete. And how we became whole together.”
“Will that help?”
“It helped us. Maybe it’ll help you.”
But that night, a final message appeared. From the Void Empress.
“Congratulations. You survived. But your children are fractured now. Vulnerable. Weak.
I’ll return in exactly ten years. On Aurora’s eighteenth birthday. On Ember’s tenth birthday. On your thirty-year anniversary.
And this time, I won’t offer choices. I’ll just take everything. Your children. Your kingdom. Your love. Your lives.
You have ten years. Prepare. Because I’m bringing the full Void. The real darkness. The end of everything.
See you then.
\-The Void Empress”
Ten years.
To teach our fractured children how to be whole.
To prepare for the final battle.
To love while we still could.
Starting tomorrow.
When we’d teach them our story.
And pray it would be enough.
