Chapter 31: Storming the Meeting
That night, a cold wind blew tension around every corner of the road, leading to Giovanni's leaders' meeting site. Ricardo's team moved silently, carrying the necessary equipment and weapons. The location was a grand villa on the city's outskirts, surrounded by high fences and heavy security.
“It's going to be difficult,” Alessandra warned. “Giovanni always ensures places like this are guarded with the best security.”
“Difficult does not mean impossible,” Ricardo replied firmly. “We're going to cut the head off this network tonight.”
Ricardo led the team into the villa's perimeter. Sofia remained in the communications van with Alessandra, monitoring the situation through the remote-controlled drone camera.
“Four guards at the front gate,” Sofia reported over the headset. “There are two more on the upper balcony.”
Ricardo signaled Salvatore, who, with his small tea,m moved to immobilize the guards with stun guns.
Once the gate was secured, Ricardo's team slipped in through the back garden. The hushed atmosphere made their heartbeats feel louder.
“Enter through the kitchen door,” Alessandra directed. “The security there is weaker than the main door.”
Inside the villa, Giovanni's leaders were having a heated debate.
“We must strike back now!” one of them shouted. “Moretti is being too bold!”
Giovanni just smiled coldly, sitting at the end of the long table. “Be patient. He's walking right into our trap.”
However, before they could continue their discussion, a noise from downstairs interrupted them.
“Report, sir!” one of Giovanni's bodyguards rushed in. “We've been attacked!”
Giovanni stood up slowly, his face remaining calm despite the hatred in his eyes. “Get everyone ready. Don't let any of them get out alive.”
The Battle Heats Up
Ricardo and his team met fierce resistance as they entered the villa's central room. Gunshots filled the air, ricocheting between the luxurious walls that were now caked in chaos.
“Take me to the meeting room!” Ricardo ordered, moving forward while covering the fire.
Meanwhile, Sofia, watching from the van, held her breath every time she saw Ricardo in danger.
“Ricardo, to the left!” Sofia called out through the headset, alerting him to a guard approaching from the blind side.
Ricardo moved nimbly, taking out the guard with one precise shot.
“What's the status of the other team?” Ricardo asked.
“Salvatore is already heading for the west side,” Alessandra replied. “They'll create a distraction there.”
Ricardo finally reached the meeting room, where Giovanni's leaders prepared to flee.
“No one leaves here,” Ricardo said coldly, pointing his gun.
Giovanni turned around, his eyes meeting Ricardo's. “Ah, Moretti. You've come at last.”
“Your game is over, Giovanni,” Ricardo insisted.
Giovanni chuckled. “You believe that destroying this place will bring me down? This network is bigger than you can imagine.”
A fierce battle ensued. Ricardo and Giovanni eventually engaged in hand-to-hand combat, demonstrating their strength and endurance.
Outside, Sofia struggled to contain her anxiety as she watched all the chaos through the cameras. “Ricardo, you need to get out of there right now!”
However, Ricardo would not back down. With incredible bravery, he finally manages to incapacitate Giovanni and orders his team to take the other leaders prisoner.
As Ricardo returned to the van, lines of exhaustion were drawn on his face. Beneath that, however, was something more substantial: sturdy determination, unwavering despite the night's toll.
“We did it,” he says in a heavy voice, but a note of triumph is tucked in.
Sofia didn't wait any longer. Without hesitation, she hugged Ricardo tightly, letting the warmth solace her from the tension they had just experienced.
However, they both knew that this success was just one small step. Giovanni may have lost tonight, but another enemy must be waiting in the shadows, plotting his next move.
“This is just the beginning,” Ricardo said quietly. His voice was no longer triumphant but laden with an awareness of the challenges ahead. His eyes looked at Sofia, deep and full of conviction. “But I know we can finish this with you by my side.”
Sofia nods, her eyes shining with the same determination. Their hands were firmly linked, like a bond that no storm would break. “We will win, Ricardo. I believe that.”
And in that cramped van, in the middle of a risky night, there was a moment of silence-a moment where both knew that they were not only fighting the world but also standing as a team, strengthening each other for whatever was to come.
The Wound Left Behind
When Ricardo's team returned to base, the morning was breaking. The silence that fell over the room did not reflect the euphoria of victory. Everyone carries traces of the night's battle scars on the body and exhaustion in the soul.
Sofia, though relieved Ricardo had survived, couldn't hide her concern. She led Ricardo to one of the chairs in the medical room while Alessandra helped treat the rest of the team's injuries.
“Take off your shirt,” Sofia ordered softly but firmly. “Your wounds need to be treated.”
Ricardo chuckled, trying to reduce the tension. “I'm fine.”
However, Sofia was not amused. “Ricardo, don't be stubborn.”
She looked at him with an irresistible gaze. Finally, Ricardo gave in, opening his shirt to reveal a cut on his side.
Sofia carefully cleaned and bandaged the wound. Her hands trembled, not from fear but from realizing how close Ricardo had come to death that night.
“Every time you go to the battlefield, I feel like I'm losing a part of myself,” Sofia whispered.
Ricardo raised his hand, touching Sofia's cheek gently. “I know. And I promise I will always come back to you.”
Meanwhile, Giovanni has been taken to the headquarters' basement as a prisoner. He was sitting on a chair with his hands tied, his face still showing arrogance despite his unfavorable circumstances.
Alessandra entered the room with a hateful expression. “You think your game is over, Giovanni?”
Giovanni only laughed softly. “The game hasn't started yet, Alessandra. You think destroying my place and arresting me will stop all this?”
Ricardo joined a moment later, walking steadily despite his injuries. He looked at Giovanni with determined eyes.
“Tell me what you know about your network,” Ricardo began. “If you cooperate, I might consider not making your life worse.”
However, Giovanni remained silent, only smiling mockingly. “I won't give you anything, Moretti. You don't know who you're dealing with.”
On the other hand, Sofia begins to delve into the documents retrieved from Giovanni's villa. As she flipped through page after page, her eyes fell on a familiar name.
“That can't be...” Sofia whispered, frozen in place.
Alessandra, who happened to be passing by, noticed Sofia's expression. “What is it?”
Sofia pointed at one of the documents. “This name... it's someone from my past.”
Alessandra examined the document. “He was one of Giovanni's regional leaders. What does that have to do with you?”
Sofia bit her lip, her mind spinning rapidly. “He is the one responsible for the death of my family.”
When Sofia shared her findings with Ricardo, the man thought deeply.
“If he has a connection to your past, then he will be our next target,” Ricardo said sternly.
Sofia hesitated for a moment. “But this isn't just about revenge. I don't want my personal feelings to interfere with this mission.”
Ricardo touched her shoulder, providing genuine support. “It's more than just revenge, Sofia. It's about ensuring people like him don't hurt anyone again.”
After gathering additional information from documents and other sources, Ricardo's team began planning their next attack. Their target was a regional leader operating in a port city that was the center of Giovanni's illicit trade.
“This time, we won't just attack. We're going to cut off their resources,” Alessandra explained.
Sofia, who felt she had business with this target, decided to get more involved in the planning.
“I want to come,” Sofia finally said.
Ricardo looked at her skeptically. “This is dangerous.”
Sofia gave him a stern look. “I can't keep hiding behind a screen. I have to do it.”
That evening, Sofia stands on the balcony, looking out over the city shining in the distance. Ricardo joined her, carrying two glasses of wine.
“Are you ready for the next step?” Ricardo asks.
Sofia nodded, clutching her glass tightly. “I'm ready for anything.”
Ricardo smiled slightly despite the worry in his eyes. “Then let's face this together.”
