Chapter 214 Epilogue (ELION)

Chapter 214 Epilogue (ELION)
The illness was fucking painful, but losing Calia would have hurt even more. I had been on the verge of giving up back then, unable to bear that wretched, agonizing treatment any longer. I would have preferred death to living with all that pain. But Calia fought hard to keep me going and urged me to continue the treatment. She gave me a new life—and with it, new hope. Our family was growing. I wasn't going to let Calia fight this battle alone again, the way she had four years ago.
I underwent a comprehensive MRI scan. They sedated me, then slid my body into a giant capsule for nearly an hour. Calia was absolutely determined to see me recover, so I didn't want to let her down. Two days later, the results came back. The chemotherapy had failed because of a separate infection in my intestines. My unhealthy lifestyle had severely damaged my organs.
Calia worked day and night to devise the best treatment plan for me. She asked Dr. Aldric to treat the infection first before resuming chemotherapy to ensure the best possible outcome. I had to endure the painful treatment process all over again. But whenever I felt like giving up, I remembered the future Calia had promised me. I was going to be a father to more than one child. I couldn't leave Calia to raise them on her own.
The days flew by, I grew accustomed to the pain—even made friends with it. The treatment became more manageable by the second month. The infection cleared up after a full three weeks of complex antibiotic therapy. Then, they resumed the chemotherapy to rid my body of that damn cancer.
If it weren't for Calia, I would be dead, buried six feet under. If it weren't for Calia, I would have spent my life as a miserable man. She was the light in my life, a miracle that appeared after years of living in darkness.
After six incredibly long and painful months, all our patience paid off. I recovered—fully recovered, with no cancer cells left in my body. It was a miracle. Even Dr. Aldric was amazed at how quickly I healed. Six months was a short time for a stage-three cancer patient to recover. It was all thanks to Calia. I never could have made it through without her support.
Over the next month, I worked hard to build back the muscle I’d lost, wanting to look truly fit for my wedding to Calia. I proposed to her the moment I was discharged from the hospital, and we held the wedding a month before she was due to give birth. I planned it that way because I wanted to officially be both a husband and a father by the time the baby arrived.
"Elion..."
"I'm here, baby."
"I'm so tired."
"Go back to sleep. I'll take care of the kids."
"Thank you."
I kissed her forehead, and she stirred slightly before drifting back to sleep.
She had given birth just two weeks ago. It was a long labor. She endured contractions for twelve hours before delivering naturally. She was an amazing woman. It was the first time I’d ever seen a woman push human beings out of her belly. Even a guy like me shed tears in the delivery room when my babies were born.
Luca and Lucien were born perfectly healthy. They cried so loudly it seemed to shake the walls of the delivery room. The moment I held them skin-to-skin, I felt an instant, powerful bond with them. In that moment, I vowed to protect my children with all my heart, because they were so precious. Lea was thrilled to be a big sister. She helped Calia and me look after her little brothers.
Before checking on the twins in their room, I went to see Lea. My little girl was already awake. She climbed down from her bed and came over to me, her hair still tousled from sleep.
"Daddy..."
"Did you sleep well last night?"
"Yes."
I picked her up, and she snuggled affectionately against my neck.
"Where's Mommy?"
"She's sleeping."
"I want to see Luca and Lucien."
"Let's go to their room. We need to give them their milk."
"I want some milk too."
"I'll have Edward get you some milk, okay?"
"Okay, Daddy."
"Good girl."
The twins were crying in their room. Their diapers needed changing, and I handled it without any trouble at all. I had decided to retire from the mafia world after recovering from cancer. Jack respected my decision, even supported it. He was no longer the assistant who trailed me everywhere I went. He was now the vice president, working full-time at the office. It was a drastic change, but he said he liked his new, lower-risk life. He had even started opening up to the idea of a serious relationship.
Last time we spoke, he told me he was dating a nurse. I think they met when Jack came to the hospital a few times to drop off company reports for me.
"Daddy, where's their milk? Luca and Lucien are hungry."
"Just a moment, baby. I need to warm up their milk."
"Daddy, they're crying so hard their faces are turning red."
Well, they were just as impatient as I was.
"Here. Put it in their mouths gently, so they don't choke."
"Like this?"
"Yes. Good job. You're a great big sister."
Lea beamed.
"Daddy, I love you."
"I love you too, sweetheart."
I planted a kiss on the top of her head. She giggled as she held onto Lucien’s milk bottle.
"I love Lucien, Luca, Mommy, Uncle Jack, and Grandpa Ed, too."
And I felt so blessed to have them in my life.
