Chapter 233
Chapter 233
"You had no clue, did you?"
"Well, if Edward hadn't ended up like a vegetable, not only you, but even Thalia wouldn't have been able to tie the knot with him," Samuel said with a smirk.
Victoria rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed.
She was completely unaware of this, but it didn't come as a shock. Given the Davis family's history, marrying into the Hamilton family was out of the question.
Even if it were Marcus, it was all about her being a strategic choice.
But none of that mattered. She even gave Samuel a challenging look. "Do you really think that's going to get to me?"
"Ever thought that I couldn't care less about all this?"
"No way, absolutely no way," Samuel shook his head.
He was skilled at manipulating people, mainly due to his insight into human behavior. In this regard, he was confident. But now, Victoria was claiming she was unfazed.
How could that be?
"You're just being stubborn! How can you act like you don't care when you know your husband's heart belongs to someone else?" Samuel found it hard to believe.
"Let's get this straight, Edward only married you because that Sierra turned him down!" he yelled, gearing up to make a move.
In the next instant, a glint of steel flashed as one of Edward's men sliced a sharp knife across Samuel's face.
"Your mouth is truly asking for trouble."
Samuel was instantly shocked, unsure if it was the blade or Edward's sudden appearance that startled him.
Shaking his head in disbelief, he muttered, "No way, how did you find your way here? Marcus didn't mention..."
"Do you think if you didn't do Marcus's dirty work, he wouldn't hold you accountable?"
In reality, Marcus was egging him on, trying to provoke a reaction. If it worked, he'd be pleased, but if not, he wouldn't take the blame.
Samuel crumpled to the ground.
He had thought his actions would bring Edward pain, but before he could even begin, it was all over.
As he saw Edward towering over him like a deity, he shut his eyes, somewhat in disbelief. "Why, why is she just a mountain..."
"She is Anouk's final and most crucial disciple."
This revelation not only stunned Samuel but also left Victoria wide-eyed in disbelief. "What did you just say?"
Edward sighed, "Darling, remember to inform me promptly in the future. If you had told me earlier today, I would have assured you that you didn't need to prove yourself to anyone."
"Just being Anouk's disciple would have silenced any doubts about your qualifications."
At this point, Victoria was too preoccupied to dwell on this. Was she really Anouk's disciple? Did that mean Lenora was Anouk?
She glanced tentatively at Edward, who nodded without hesitation, understanding her unspoken question.
Just as Victoria was about to say something, she suddenly passed out.
"Wife," Edward's expression changed drastically.
Samuel was taken aback. He had planned to harm Victoria, but he never got the chance!
"I didn't lay a finger on her," he blurted out instinctively.
Edward, who had been preparing to leave with Victoria, halted at Samuel's words.
"What's your plan now?" Samuel was even more terrified.
"Show me right now what's wrong with her?"
This place was too isolated, and he wasn't certain about Victoria's condition, fearing something might go awry.
Samuel blinked, "Aren't you afraid..."
Before he could finish, Edward, gritting his teeth, said, "Do you value your life? Speak up now."
Samuel didn't dare waste a moment.
He might not have many skills, but he possessed some medical knowledge. He swiftly reached out to examine Victoria.
But then, Samuel froze.
"No, this can't be," he shook his head repeatedly.
Edward's brow furrowed even deeper. "What do you mean?"
"What's the matter with my wife?" Samuel's face drained of color. Instead of answering directly, he cautiously inquired, "Mr. Hamilton, if I explain the situation, will you release me?"
"Are you trying to strike a deal with me?" Edward narrowed his eyes dangerously.
In reality, he had already summoned a doctor who should be on the way. Disregarding Samuel, he hoisted him up.
Trusting this guy had been a mistake.
Seeing Edward about to depart with Victoria, Samuel panicked.
He couldn't intimidate Edward, but he had no other option. "Mr. Hamilton, I'm not threatening you. I'm just thinking, for Mrs. Hamilton's unborn child's sake, you should do some good and let go of someone like me!"
"What did you just say?" Edward couldn't believe his ears.
Unnoticed by him, Victoria, in his arms, had also started to regain consciousness at that moment. Planning to greet Edward upon waking, she blushed upon hearing Samuel's words and decided to continue feigning unconsciousness.
Observing Edward's incredulous expression, Samuel couldn't help but shake his head.
He couldn't believe it either.
If it were anyone else pregnant, that would be one thing, but Edward, of all people!
And now, his wife was expecting!
"Mr. Hamilton, this is a cause for celebration!" Samuel tried to lighten the mood.
Edward was too overwhelmed to respond. Victoria had intended to keep up the pretense of being unconscious, but upon hearing Samuel's words, Edward stood there motionless, gazing at her with affection.
She couldn't withstand his intense gaze any longer and dropped the act!
Victoria had to feign waking up, gradually opening her eyes.
"Honey, what's going on with me?" Edward just shook his head.
He couldn't find his voice now. If he tried, he might break down.
"Honey?" Victoria grew worried.
"It's nothing, dear. I have a lot to explain, but I'm not sure where to begin. Just give me a moment to gather my thoughts, and then I'll share it with you step by step," he said, holding her closer.
Unbeknownst to her, if she hadn't vanished, Edward had intended to bring her to meet her family.
They never anticipated that after Victoria discovered something in the storage room, Edward had to resolve matters with the person he had clashed with abroad and then reunite with his family.
During that reunion, he unexpectedly came across an old photo of the Jenkins family, the same one Caleb had stumbled upon during his investigation of Victoria.
He kept this discovery to himself and quietly initiated his inquiry.
The findings left everyone stunned.
No wonder Amara had always been distant towards Victoria. It turned out Victoria was actually a member of Jenkins' family.
Sierra was also part of the Jenkins family, but not Steven's biological sister—Victoria was.
Numerous old tales were interwoven in this revelation.
He was ready to guide Victoria in uncovering the truth. He believed he had provided Victoria with a family.
However, he never envisioned she would beat him to it and find herself a large family.
Edward had a lot to express, but he didn't know where to begin. Yet, there was no hurry. They had a lifetime to untangle it all slowly.
