Chapter 226
Chapter 226
Edward caught on and nodded, "So, I'm your emergency contact now?"
Victoria nodded in agreement.
Not giving it much thought initially, Victoria suddenly felt a tad sheepish as Edward's gaze bore into her.
"Well, you're my go-to in Starlight City..."
She tried to clarify.
Edward maintained a grin.
Victoria, feeling a bit hesitant, blurted out, "Hey, Mr. Hamilton, who's your emergency contact?"
Hoping to shift the focus, Victoria was surprised when Edward calmly handed her his phone.
Curiosity getting the best of her, Victoria peeked.
"You haven't set one either!"
She couldn't decide if she was let down or relieved.
Arching an eyebrow, Edward quipped, "Fixed that now."
Victoria blinked. She saw him take it from her hand, press it a few times quickly, and then stuff it back into her hand.
He raised an eyebrow and said, "All right."
Victoria blushed, looking down, but a smile tugged at her lips.
Seeing through her facade, Edward teased, "Content now?"
Still blushing, Victoria nodded.
She confessed she was genuinely pleased.
Edward eased up, playfully tousling her hair, "No need for all the trouble."
"I might be tied up and unable to swing by."
If it was just a chauffeur picking her up, Edward felt obliged.
But with his hectic schedule, it might be a stretch.
"No worries, I'm doing what I love." She beamed with pride. "Oh, forgot to mention, I'm officially a full-time staffer now."
"Call me Dr. Neville moving forward."
She tilted her head proudly, seeking approval like a kid.
Edward's eyes sparkled with amusement.
Victoria was indeed a bit naive. What did it matter if she became a regular at the hospital? Once Lenora spilled the beans about their relationship, she wouldn't just be any doctor.
"Sure thing, Dr. Neville." Edward played along, but added, "Work's done for the day. Can Dr. Neville spare some time for her hubby?"
Victoria realized they weren't headed home.
"Where to?" She couldn't help but ask.
"You'll see," Edward replied mysteriously.
Victoria pouted, feeling a tad miffed.
Upon arrival, Victoria was taken aback.
"Let's head back, Mr. Hamilton!" She hesitated.
Edward sighed, expecting her reaction.
"My lovely Mrs. Hamilton, forgotten your new title?" he teased.
"You're now my wife, Victoria Hamilton. Shouldn't you feel at home here?"
Victoria blushed.
She had joked before about wanting to live the high life to amuse Edward, mentioning going to the top revolving restaurant in Starlight City, taking in the city's view.
It was all in jest.
She didn't expect Edward to actually make it happen.
Victoria didn't mind going, but she was totally unprepared. She had just changed into casual clothes after work, clearly not fitting for the occasion.
Before Victoria could express her concerns to Edward, he beat her to it, saying, "Alright, I know you're not a fan of crowds. It's just us two tonight."
Victoria was left speechless.
As they entered, the restaurant was indeed serene, with only soft background music playing.
The rotating motion of the restaurant, which gave it its name, had initially worried Victoria about feeling dizzy. But now, she realized she had overthought it. The gentle movement was oddly soothing, almost lulling her to sleep.
It was far from the glitzy scenes she had seen on TV.
"Do you like it?" Edward's tone was unusually gentle.
Victoria's eyes welled up slightly. "I love it."
She truly did. While she had only witnessed luxury and fantasy on TV, being there in person filled her heart with warmth.
"Is today a special occasion?" Victoria inquired softly.
Edward confirmed, "Yes, it is indeed."
"Today marks the grand opening of the Skyline Enterprises building, and I wanted to share this moment with you."
Victoria could feel her heart racing.
Despite considering various possibilities, Edward's words still struck a chord with her.
Before she could respond, Edward handed her a glass of red wine, "Here you go, Mrs. Hamilton, let's toast to this special day."
"From now on, each day will be even brighter than today."
Victoria's hand trembled.
To conceal her excitement from Edward, she theatrically lifted the glass and took a big sip.
She had hoped the wine would calm her nerves, but instead, it only heightened her flustered state.
Victoria realized she was undeniably falling for him.
While not surprised by this development, facing it head-on now left her feeling anxious and apprehensive.
She even found herself feeling a bit foolish.
While most would ponder whether a man they met was trustworthy, Victoria's thoughts were different.
She pondered if an exceptional man like Edward could truly be hers.
The notion felt like a daydream.
Lost in her thoughts, Edward suddenly stood before her.
"Beautiful Mrs. Hamilton, would you honor me with a dance?"
Edward asked tenderly.
Victoria widened her eyes in disbelief, "How did you stand up? And here..."
"Don't fret," Edward reassured her.
Glancing around and noticing the impassive staff, Victoria realized they were all part of Edward's team. She eased a bit, though still nervous. "I'm not exactly a dancing pro."
When was the last time she had danced?
If she had to recall, it was probably at a freshman bash in college. After a few missteps on a senior's toes, she never had the chance again.
Edward arched an eyebrow, and in the next moment, he had her in his arms.
Victoria was taken aback.
She could hear Edward's steady and reassuring heartbeat, calming her down.
She figured Edward must be a skilled dancer. Under his guidance, she didn't step on his foot once, feeling like a dancing pro herself.
