Chapter 214
Chapter 214
Damon jumped in, "Come on, Dad just woke up. Why bring up that stuff again?"
Paloma rolled her eyes and muttered, "I'm just saying, if we don't sort this out now, how will people see Marcus and the Hamilton family in the future?"
She was worried about Marcus's future.
Despite Damon's reminders, she insisted on mentioning the Hamilton family.
Gavin's expression shifted as he heard this.
Damon cut in, "Can you just hold off for a sec?"
Paloma finally quieted down.
"Dad, don't stress. Marcus has got this," Damon reassured confidently.
Marcus chimed in, "Yeah, Grandpa, you can count on me with the Hamilton Group!"
Their words oozed confidence, as if Gavin hadn't brought up transferring shares to Edward.
But underneath, they felt a bit uneasy.
Luckily, Gavin just nodded, "Okay, got it."
Marcus felt relieved, thinking Gavin's share transfer mention at the party was probably a passing comment given the circumstances.
Feeling more assured, he signaled to Damon, who got the message, "But, Dad, the current situation might be a bit tricky."
"I heard that after you were taken to the hospital yesterday, Edward caused a scene, claiming he should attend the board meeting as the second-largest shareholder of the Hamilton Group!"
"Second-largest shareholder?"
Gavin paused for a moment.
But he quickly realized his mistake. It was clear Edward had his strengths, which is why he wasn't too concerned about his shares.
"Okay, I see," he said calmly.
Marcus grew worried, "Grandpa, if that's the case, the Hamilton Group is in serious trouble."
"Edward is no longer part of the Hamilton family."
"And, Edward also mentioned that Victoria is now the largest shareholder of Skyline Enterprises. If we let him take over, the Hamilton family will be at Victoria's mercy."
He emphasized.
Gavin's face darkened as he sternly said, "Ridiculous."
He didn't mind if Marcus or Edward ended up with the Hamilton Group, but he couldn't stand the thought of it falling into someone else's hands.
Gavin narrowed his eyes and said firmly, "I'll appoint Marcus as the chairman, Damon, back him up!"
Marcus objected, "Grandpa, it's not about titles now, it's about shares."
"What good is a title without real power?"
He wanted authority.
Surprisingly, Gavin brushed off his concerns, waving his hand impatiently, "Enough, I just woke up and still feel unwell. We'll talk about the shares later."
Marcus wanted to say more, but Damon saw the situation and turned to Paloma, "Dad needs rest. You stay here. Marcus and I will handle yesterday's mess first."
Reluctantly, Marcus was led out of the room by Damon.
As they walked away, Marcus shook off Damon's hand when he felt Damon's grip loosen, "Dad, why are you dragging me? If we delay discussing the shares, he might hand them over to Edward."
"No, the night is young, and I must..."
Seeing Marcus getting more worked up, Damon quickly covered his mouth and guided him to a secluded spot before sighing and scolding, "Enough, loose lips sink ships. Who knows how many eyes are on us right now?"
"If you act now, Edward might not hesitate to take control of the Hamilton Group."
Marcus frowned, clearly displeased.
He was about to speak, but Damon anticipated his thoughts. Reluctantly, Damon acknowledged that Marcus was no match for Edward.
"Even if you're not thrilled, what can you do?"
"Do you think the Hamilton Group can rival Skyline Enterprises at this point?"
Marcus had no comeback.
Damon knew he got through to him, so he sighed and reasoned, "Regardless, your grandpa hasn't handed over the shares yet. It's not a done deal."
"Don't forget, Samuel mentioned Edward's days might be numbered. If he kicks the bucket early, maybe Skyline Enterprises will fall into our lap."
Marcus hadn't thought about this possibility.
But Damon's words intrigued him, "What do you mean?"
Damon elaborated, "If Edward kicks the bucket, do you really think everything will automatically go to that Victoria from the sticks?"
"We can make a move then, let Jasper, that incompetent one, fight for it. It could end up in our hands."
He sounded confident.
To Damon, both brothers, Jasper and Nathan, were easily influenced.
Seeing the situation, Marcus reluctantly agreed, "Let's take it step by step."
Damon nodded, reminding him, "Remember to keep things smooth with the Davis family."
"But..."
When it came to the Davis family, Marcus hesitated.
Damon understood his reluctance and warned sternly, "I don't care what you do outside, but don't stir up trouble for me now."
"Firstly, Thalia and her unborn child are your bargaining chips in front of your grandpa."
"Secondly, Declan's resources are limited. Don't risk big for something small."
With Damon's caution, Marcus nodded.
However, when Damon urged him to text Thalia, Marcus messaged a different number instead.
He got a prompt reply.
Raising an eyebrow, Marcus said, "I'll go find Thalia first. You handle yesterday's mess."
Damon hesitated, but he had no choice. He hoped Marcus could handle things solo, but with Marcus's fiery temper, anything could happen.
He had to let him go.
Damon needed to act fast, so he had to trust Marcus to smooth things over with the Davis family.
Marcus didn't take it seriously.
To him, Thalia had no options left. Even if she regretted it, there was nothing she could do.
As expected, Thalia, with her spoiled attitude, was furious that night and pinned everything on Amara.
Thalia whirled around and slapped Amara without a second thought.
