Chapter 129 No victim
Chapter 129 No victim
Sparkle
“No! No! No! Stop lying, Dalton can’t die! Just stop saying that!” I screamed as my heart crashed into several pieces. Dalton promised to stay by my side forever; he said he would be here till we both died together, so I don’t want to believe he’s gone. I just can’t accept it.
Dalton promised to be there; he promised that the pup and I will be safe under his protection; dying wasn’t part of the plan. No, no, no.
“Take me back to Dalton, I know he’s not dead, you liar!” I screamed.
“I wish I could take you back, but he’s not there! I will be taking you back to your death.”
I don’t know what came over me, but I started crying hysterically, trying to get out of the car. He slowly started the engine again, trying to get the car to move, and interestingly, it did. You could see the damage here and there, but the car moved just fine.
“Are you taking me back to Dalton? Because that’s the only place I’m willing to go with you.” I informed him, but he didn’t stop moving forward.
“Sparkle, I need you to understand that you can’t go back to the Roux estate. Ronald has taken over, and if he finds out that you are carrying Dalton’s pup, he will definitely end you too.”
My heart was palpitating, and my mind was all over the place. I was trying hard to grasp what I had just been told, but that was next to impossible. I don’t believe that Dalton could lose to his uncle just like that. Dalton is strong; he’s powerful; he will never go down that easily. I saw him when he was brought to the hospital after the accident; I saw those fatal wounds, I saw what he survived, so why couldn’t he survive this? What did Ronald do to him?
“Dalton is not one to die that easily,” I said in a calm but shaky voice. I reasoned that if I calmed down a little, he would listen to me, but he only turned up the radio.
“Listen to this,” he said before turning it up even more.
“According to reports, Dalton Roux passed away after falling off a cliff in the woods near the Rouge Square. Efforts are being made to retrieve his body from the ravines, a designated search party will be transporting the remains of the late CEO of the Roux Estate’s to the Roux Estates’ morgue. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.”
He fell off a cliff? Hasn't his body yet been recovered? Then how are they so sure that he died? There’s still a chance that he’s alive. “James, did you hear that?”
“That Dalton fell off a cliff?”
“It says that his body hasn’t yet been recovered; that means there’s a chance that he’s still alive.” I hopefully remarked.
“He fell off a cliff, did you hear that?” James tried to discourage me from having any hope.
“He was also involved in a fatal accident that claimed about three lives, and he still survived. I know how strong he is because I nursed him back to health. I never thought he would survive, but he did,” I ranted, trying to make him see reason to take me back, but nothing would let him turn around.
“It will be a great disservice to Dalton and you, Sparkle. Please understand me, I just can’t let you go back.” He kept saying, which drove me absolutely crazy. I thought of jumping out of the car, but that would harm my pup, if not kill both of us instantly. I thought of calling Lucy. We might be enemies now, but I know that she has Dalton’s best interests at heart and will be willing to cooperate in finding him. Thinking of Lucy reminded me that I didn’t have a phone. My cards and everything were gone; I basically had no money, no phone, and I couldn’t escape from the clutches of this imbecile because I was heavily pregnant.
Maybe I should calm down and talk to him. He may be a beast, but he has a human side, so he might understand.
“James,” I said so calmly,
“Sparkle?”
“I don’t want to give up on Dalton just because the news says so.”
“I get you. I understand you more than you think. Can we just wait for things to quiet down? I will personally drive you back when everything calms down.” He assured me, but I didn’t trust James at all; he would never help me find Dalton. If anything, he will take me further away from Dalton just to keep the two of us apart. He has always wanted me for himself, so why will he let me go now?
I looked back and realized that we weren’t too far from the Hans Motel, just about 500 meters. We weren’t moving fast because of the slippery, Icy roads. If I’m correct, James is taking me somewhere Dalton won’t think to search for me, even if it turns out that he’s not dead.
I can’t let this happen. I have to be findable; I can’t spend eternity trapped with James. I can’t let a descendant of Ronald raise my pup. “James, where are we going?” I calmly inquired.
“Back to our town….”
“Oh, you mean your town?”
“No, I mean our town; don’t we live in the same vicinity? Where else would I take you?” He replied.
“Take me to my parents. I need my mother.” I pleaded.
“But Sparkle, she doesn’t want to see you, remember?”
I nodded, “but she won’t send me away if I show up at her door.”
“I don’t mind taking you there, but if Ronald is after you, that is the first place he will check.”
“I will pay for security,” I replied firmly.
“Whoever you pay is no match for Ronald and his team, and by now you should know this because he got Dalton.” He charged back.
“So where are you taking us?” I defeatedly asked,
“To my home.”
I nodded, at least at his place, Dalton can come and find me, if only he doesn’t have any more tricks up his sleeve. I gave up the fight and gave in to a chaotic slumber that crept over me. I woke up again with my bladder exploding, wanting to be emptied so badly.
“James, I need to pee,” I mumbled, only to look out the window and notice the unfamiliarity of the place. It was pitch black outside, but I could still tell that we weren’t in our town.
“Where are we?” I yelled.
“We’re in my neighborhood.”
I looked around again. This wasn’t the neighborhood I knew about. I don’t even think I’ve been here my entire life. Where’s this?
“I don’t remember you living here,” I remarked.
“Yes, I have two houses, so technically we’re in my neighborhood,” he replied.
Now it was glaring in my face that this man had abducted me and didn’t have any plans on letting me go, but this time it’s different; I won’t be the victim, I will make him regret this.
