Chapter 65 I Had A Dream About Us
Evelyn’s POV
I made my way into the mansion, the faint scent of the sun still clinging to my clothes. I wiped my palms against my robe and inhaled softly before turning into the dining room.
Kim was there.
Not just there. She was pressed so close to Lorenzo it looked like she was trying to melt into his body. One hand on his shoulder, her fingers idly playing with the collar of his shirt.
I wonder what she could be doing here again, I have never walked in on her in the dining room before.
Her smile stretched, like she was auditioning for a toothpaste commercial, like she wasn’t just pretending to be in pain a few hours ago.
Lorenzo sat still, jaw tight but not moving away. Not leaning closer either. Just….. existing with her wrapped around him.
My steps slowed. The air in the room thickened, crowding my lungs. And for a second, I wondered if maybe I should turn around and go back outside, pretend I forgot something in the garden, pretend I wasn’t seeing what I was seeing.
But Patricia saw me first.
“Good morning, Ms. Martins,” she said warmly, already reaching for the serving spoon.
But before the spoon could even click against a plate, Kim’s voice stopped her.
“Patricia, don’t bother.” She didn’t even turn. She just lifted a hand, flicking it casually in the air. “Let Evelyn do it.”
My breath stopped.
Lorenzo’s head snapped slightly toward Kim. “Kim.”
“It’s fine, Renzo,” she cut him off sweetly, sliding her fingers down his arm as if she owned it, owned him or owned the entire damn house. “Since Eve came into this house she’s been doing nothing. So I suggest she starts learning how to make herself useful.”
My ribs tightened. Something burned low in my stomach.
Patricia blinked, eyes shifting between us, unsure.
I stayed frozen.
Kim dragged her eyes over me, one brow lifting in fake innocence.
“Don’t just stand there, Eve,” she said, her voice smooth, annoying, childish. “Serve the food.”
I felt Lorenzo’s gaze on me. Heavy. Uncomfortable. Maybe he wanted to stop her. Maybe he didn’t.
But the bottom line? He didn’t say anything else. And hurts more than insults. The fact that he is still acting like last night meant nothing, was more painful.
I swallowed, my throat tight, and forced myself forward. My fingers felt numb as I took the serving spoon from Patricia, who looked like she wanted to pull me into a hug.
I served the food.
My hands shook a little, but I kept my face calm. I wasn’t going to give Kim the satisfaction of watching me crumble.
Kim kept watching me, satisfaction swirling in her.
Lorenzo’s jaw clenched. “Eve.” He called out in a low but firm voice. “Enough. Sit down and eat, let Kim serve herself.”
Kim’s mouth pouted, defiance hovering over her. “But…..”
“No but.” Lorenzo cut her.
He turned fully to her, curious before breaking his silence. “I’m yet to hear from you, from what we discussed yesterday.”
“Um….yes, about that….” Kim’s head snapped, eyes darting around. “I was going to tell you…..I had a dream.”
Lorenzo straightened up quickly, rather than hear her and that made me wonder what it was all about.
“Yes, spill it already.” He added quickly.
Kim remained still, her eyes drifting from Lorenzo to me. “Uhm….don’t you think we should be discussing this privately?”
Lorenzo turned, stared at me a little too long before turning back to Kim. “Just go ahead. Eve isn’t going to interrupt.”
Kim smiled dangerously before titling her head dramatically feigning concern. “Well, I saw us together last night, we were so much in love that you promised to never leave me again.”
Kim moved closer to him, her hand resting on his face. “Now is beginning to make sense. The night you found me in that forest, it was fate. It didn’t just happen.”
“Lorenzo we are bound to happen, our souls are tied together.
My eyes widened. What the fuck is she even saying?
And Lorenzo isn’t even stopping her. He sat clueless, calculating and disturbed like he was fighting himself to believe whatever lies she was selling to him.
My mind raced to what Gideon had told me on how Lorenzo saved her. Could there be more? Is she actually trying to say that Lorenzo and her are meant for each other?
That means I have no place in his heart.
“Was that all you saw?” Lorenzo broke the silent, “what about your old face? Did you get to see or remember anything from our past?”
Kim rubbed her neck nervously, “well, I didn’t see much.”
Lorenzo sank back into his chair, disappointed.
“But don’t worry, I believe it will only take time because it has been decades.” She added quickly.
I wanted to pretend that I didn’t want to ask questions regarding to what they were discussing by biting my head on the food but none of it was working, so I decided to take a leave because I was like a piece of object there.
My fork clattered on the ceramic plate, I pushed back my chair, the scraping sound of the wood against the floor dragging loud enough to pull their attention.
“I will give you two spaces, I will return after you two are done with this conversation.”
Before I could turn, Lorenzo caught my wrist quickly. “Wait.”
I stood still but didn't turn right away.
“Sit back and eat, you don’t have the right to walk out of the eating table without my permission.”
“Oh, I do.” I snapped back, anger coiling inside me.
He tried to say another word, maybe take control the way he has always done but Kim caught his wrist. “Oh, Lucifer. You don’t have to worry yourself about crap like her. Just forget about her and let’s talk about us.”
Lorenzo fumed but slowly released me and focused back on his food.
A sting of tears clustered at my eyes but I fought it back, refusing to let it show and headed outside.
I sat at a pavement beside the garden, my head buried on my palms when I heard a foot step approaching and slowly I lifted my head.
