Chapter 158

Chapter 158

Lily smiled and said, "Don't bother going. I ran into him and asked him to pass our materials to Manager Larson, and he flat-out refused. You'd just be wasting your time."

Mia put on a smug look and said, "Not necessarily."

Just last night, David had offered her 25 acres of land without a second thought. Surely he could bring the Wilson family's materials to Ruby or the manager and put in a good word for them?

With that thought in mind, Mia headed happily toward David's office.

Lily followed behind Elizabeth and asked carefully, "Elizabeth, Mia's already gone to find David. Aren't you going to go check on things?"

Elizabeth was still upset with David. Yesterday afternoon, Mason had gotten his head cracked open by Zane, and when Elizabeth found out that David had been there at the start but then slipped away under the excuse of going to the bathroom once things got heated, she got even angrier.

"Go to him? I'd rather go broke than ever ask him for a single favor."

Lily noticed tears flickering in Elizabeth's eyes as she said this, and she had a feeling this couple probably didn't have much time left together.

Unlike Mia, Lily was straightforward and kind-hearted. She quietly said to Elizabeth, "Elizabeth, I haven't had much contact with Mr. Jones, but I can tell he's not a bad person. And now that he's the head of security at Hill Enterprises, I'm sure he'll go even further. I don't know what you two argued about, but I think you should find a time to sit down and talk it out calmly."

There was no way a few casual words from Lily were going to get through to Elizabeth when she was this worked up.

Elizabeth said with a hint of impatience, "I get it. Can we stop talking about him and talk about something else?"

Seeing that, Lily knew better than to say anything more.

Before long, Mia came back looking completely defeated.

Lily smiled and asked, "So? Did it work?"

Mia said, clearly annoyed, "If it had worked, would I be back already? That guy is so full of himself. He's just a security manager, and he acts like he's some big shot. He actually lectured me, told me not to cut corners. I'm so mad!"

Elizabeth said like it was obvious, "See? I told you he was that kind of arrogant jerk, and you didn't believe me. Do you believe me now?"

Just like always, Mia never missed a chance to drive a wedge between David and Elizabeth.

"Elizabeth, you should just divorce a guy like him already. He's only a security manager and he's already acting like this. If he ever becomes a VP at Hill Enterprises, he'll be even worse."

Elizabeth said with a touch of defiance, "He probably won't be security manager at Hill Enterprises for much longer anyway."

Mia asked curiously, "What do you mean?"

Elizabeth said plainly, "Remember that eight percent stake in the Cole Group? He ended up walking away with all of it. He's sitting on at least 500 acres of land in the south district right now. He definitely can't develop all that himself, so if he sells it off, he'd be looking at around 1.2 billion dollars at minimum. With that kind of money, he wouldn't need to be a VP at Hill Enterprises."

After hearing this, Lily was stunned. "What? Is David's investment instinct really that sharp?"

Mia's thinking was on a completely different level from Lily's. While Lily stood there in shock, Mia said with a straight face, "Elizabeth, don't you think this actually works in your favor? Think about it — he's already legally married to you. Even if he sells off all that land later, it's joint marital property. You'd get half of it in a divorce."

Lily was speechless. Even though she was the youngest, she looked at Mia with a hint of disapproval and said quietly, "Mia, can you think a little more positively? Why do you keep pushing for David and Elizabeth to get divorced?"

Mia just laughed it off. "I'm doing this for Elizabeth's own good."

The three girls went back and forth for a good two hours.

When it was Elizabeth's turn, she took her materials and walked into Dwayne Larson's office first.

As she walked in, Dwayne didn't even look up. He kept playing a game on his phone and said coldly, "Leave the materials on the side table. Also, tell me — how much liquid capital does your family have right now? And what's your take on the pharmaceutical sector?"

As Elizabeth set down the materials, she said to Dwayne directly, "Manager Larson, the Perez family was actually in the pharmaceutical business for a period about twenty years ago. Unfortunately, we didn't stick with it."

Right at that moment, Dwayne snapped his head up. "Elizabeth? Ms. Perez? It's you! Please, have a seat."

Elizabeth was caught off guard by how warm he suddenly became.

"You're too kind, Manager Larson. I'm fine standing."

Dwayne walked over with a big smile and actually reached out to gently take hold of Elizabeth's arm, his eyes drifting down to her chest.

"Beautiful Ms. Perez, don't be so formal. You're the youngest and most stunning CEO in Seabrook — I've heard a lot about you. The fact that you came to our company in person to explore a partnership means a lot. Don't worry, I'll definitely put in a good word for you with the chairman."

As he spoke, his hand was already moving along Elizabeth's smooth arm.

Elizabeth tensed up, her guard immediately raised, and she stepped back a few paces.

Dwayne's smile slowly faded as he looked at her with an unreadable expression. "Ms. Perez, what are you doing? I personally walked over to help you to the sofa, and you pull away like that. Isn't that a little disrespectful?"

Elizabeth was no naive girl. She just hadn't expected the project manager of a company as big as Hill Enterprises to be this bold.

Elizabeth frowned and said firmly, "Manager Larson, I'm here to compete fairly for this opportunity. If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them right now."

From Elizabeth's reaction, Dwayne could already tell that his chance to take advantage of Seabrook's most accomplished young woman had slipped away.

He dropped the act, went back to his seat, and said coldly, "Ms. Perez, as far as I know, you're currently married to David, the head of security here at Hill Enterprises, aren't you?"
