Chapter 70: Quarrel
**The Demon’s Love**
*Chapter 70: Quarrel *
Evangeline
It was hard to believe what Amari, no, Yula had said but when Terry came before us, it was more than surprising. This world contains and cultivates magic so it shouldn’t be that shocking yet the one we are talking about is the Dragons – in the records they had been extinct. Thus, believing what we were seeing, me and Louis, was a challenge feat. What if she was blurting lies?
I was doubtful. Why would I simply her story? However, the Duke appeared to have his trust on her. Also, the Dragon’s split second of appearance. They didn’t offer any other explanation how Yula got to have a pact with a Dragon. Naturally that was possible because she has a lot of mana – pure and strong at that. I’m not in any way envious, though.
After three days, we then camped from a distance while eyeing where Darkness was sealed. The surge of Dark Magic in that mountain was so much that it makes me shudder at every gaze I did. Even right now. The Duke recommended that I always look at the mountain so the day we exact our plan, I wouldn’t stumble down that easily. So I had been doing it ever since we arrived here.
There was also another comrade – a cute child who clings at Yula, he seemed to love her as if she was his mother which was quite adorable. I also wished to have children, a husband who’s willing to create a family with me. I don’t need an extravagant identity to be happy. If possible, I want an ordinary life like this.
“What are you thinking?”
Uninformed, a man I had been doing my best to hide from came and spoke in an easygoing voice. It reminded me of the first time we met – it was quite similar like this. Nevertheless, I shouldn’t be in the same space with him for so long unless I want another problem from arising.
I turned away with a frown on my face. I felt his hand clasped on my wrist then I instinctively looked at him. I hadn’t even taken a few steps, yet he wanted me halt and gaze at him.
“I’ve made it clear, Your Highness.”
“Evangeline… you know I want to talk to you. Why do you keep avoiding me?”
I gritted my teeth. “Your Highness, I am but a mere commoner. I dare not want to make you stay here with me. Besides-“
“I know you don’t mean that.”
“How are you exactly to discern that, Your Highness?” I cut him off with a mocking sentence. I noticed how his eyes fluctuated and his grasp on my wrist tightened.
“Evangeline, do you hate me?”
“I do…,” I gulped my saliva, “I hate that you kept showing in front of me when I never needed you.”
A wronged smirk graced his mouth. “You hate me that much after professing your affection for me?”
I flinched.
“Your Highness. It was just a moment of recklessness and doubt. I am not in love with you.”
Finally, a frown was on his forehead. As long as I keep this up, both of us wouldn’t have to hurt. He is the Crown Prince while I am just a mere commoner. If we got together, people would criticize me and him – I don’t want him to suffer. If ever, let it be me to weigh it all. This is the best.
I pulled away from him who was yet to say anything then I sighed.
“I told you, Your Highness. You are but a guest in my short life. Identity comes with a great responsibility; I wouldn’t want you to bear feelings for me when you shall be equal to everyone.”
“How exactly do you want me to do that after you took my first?!”
“Your Highness!!!”
I yelled. H-he… he was drunk that time and I… even so, it was because he suddenly pulled me closer that our lips met. I didn’t want to violate him in any way but if this how it went on, I must take responsibility. No… I must not waver.
I explained, “Everything in life has a first. Please see to it that it’s just something that brushed against your lips.”
He suddenly walked over me, and I held my breath. He was… dangerous.
“W-what are you doing?” I asked, stepping back in cautious.
He smirked, “If it wasn’t then,” he lifted my chin with his forefinger, “Let’s do it for real.”
“… W-what…”
As he inched forward, I heard my heart pounding so loud it felt like it was making music. I suddenly got wary if he could hear my heartbeats. More importantly, I should push him away despite my emotions. My cheeks heated up then I carefully pushed him away while I lowered my head.
“Let’s keep our distance, Your Highness.”
“Evangeline.”
“As I don’t want to be involved with you.”
I clenched my hands and I reluctantly turned away, feeling my cheeks reddened due to his unexpected approach. W-will he really kiss me if I hadn’t pushed him away? Why does he keep on seducing me with that handsome face of his?!

Yula clicked her tongue, and then turned to me.
“How are we going to work this team if you two will not make up?”
I lowered my gaze, “Duchess… I can still do my job properly without bearing personal feelings.”
“But it could affect how you perform.”
“Duchess…” I softly called, as though to convey using her title that it was just unnecessary knowing that the gap between us is just too much.
I heard her dejected sigh. “I understand what you’re going through. I had over thought it, too. That was before I married Zaren and talked to him. As we got into more arguments, I discovered that if we do not communicate, we’ll be the ones to suffer, either.”
I frowned at her words.
I shook my head, “He’s the crown prince, Duchess. I am only a commoner…”
“Do you think he’d give up just because of your identities?”
“… I’m not sure.”
“Furthermore, now that you’re here to help us, certainly, Louis wouldn’t want you leave without facing the Emperor.”
I gaped hearing that title.
“The E-emperor? No way, Duchess. I must not face him if I don’t want to die.”
She giggled, “You’ll face him to recognize your helping hand.”
“… Duchess, do you think if I accept him, people will still believe of his fair judgement?”
I looked up at her, hopeful that she’d give me an optimistic answer.
She smiled, “Why don’t you talk to him?”
