Chapter 69: Who She Is
The Demon’s Love
Chapter 69: Who She Is
Evangeline
When the Duke informed me, rather, asked me for a favor that he needed a place to reside for a little while, it was fine for me. My house, given by my dead parents, is a bit too big to settle since I was alone. I particularly don’t have that much of things because I’m alone and I don’t dare purchase due to impulsiveness.
There were times where I felt like it would had been better if I had more things. However, maintaining them is another work so I gave up. Hence, that idea of mine helped the Duke and Duchess – other than I have two available rooms, there were two storage rooms where some of the knights could simultaneously rest.
It was all right for me for I can at least give them a place to sleep in exchange of them securing the people’s peace and safety.
Everything was fine until I saw Louis’s face. I don’t, in any way, blame him for his appearance. It was just a bit awkward that we had to face each other this way. I made it sure I don’t want to see him again. But if it helps the Duke and Duchess, I supposed I don’t have a choice.
Inside my experimental room, I pulled out three chairs then Louis helped me give it to the couple.
Upon sitting on our seats, we then exchanged glances. Zaren cleared his throat, laying down a map from his pocket. I didn’t know he has that.
While he stood up, he spoke, “We’re here to tell you about my plan. I have temporarily sealed Darkness with another helping hand.”
Louis then questioned, “Right, you told me about that earlier. Is the one who helped you a powerful person?”
“Of course, we wouldn’t be able to stunt that kind of thing if he hadn’t been one.”
He arched his lips, “I feel like I know that person. Is he well?”
That’s suspicious. A powerful person who isn’t known to the public? No, Louis has an idea who it was therefore if must be someone they’re trying to cover up the identity.
I don’t want to pry on something I am not yet accessible to know.
Zaren responded, “He is very well.”
“Does he know what we’re trying to plan?”
“Since he didn’t want to make an appearance with us, I’ll make sure to inform him about it so there’d be no hassle as we exact our appointment.”
Louis satisfactory nodded his head. At times like this, I could feel that he is really a Crown Prince – a high person I wouldn’t dare to want.
I spoke with reluctance. “As I’ve told you Duke. My knowledge in hieroglyph is basics.”
Airina then told, “That is fine. I will lens my hand for your ability to awaken.”
“Well… thank you, Duchess.”
Airina stood up, looking at us with deep contemplation. Since I’ve warned them about my capabilities, they wouldn’t mock me or do anything in that sort, right?
“First and foremost, we’re dealing with Dark Magic – vicious and formidable. On the other hand, it could manipulate people thus we need to be extra cautious with what we’ll be doing.”
Zaren seconded, “Before we attempt to kill. It, it’s better that we must make sure he have had greater impact. Moreover, we’re trying to get the soul inside Darkness.”
I frowned, “The soul? What do you mean, Duke?”
“Dark Magic eats people’s soul for their existence, so eliminating is a challenge.” Louis explained to which I nodded.
This is why they called me here. Not to make me uncomfortable around Louis but to tell me about Darkness and what it does to people. I completely misunderstood their intentions. I sighed.
“That’s right, and there is someone whose soul had been eaten.”
I flinched. “Does that mean the Darkness is now living in someone else’s soul… and that’s we’re going to take it out for him to die?”
Amari nodded her head. “Yes, all correct. And that person is Amari.”
“…”
Even Louis, who was solemnly looking at them, suddenly looked at me. We were thinking of the same thing. What does they mean? Especially when Zaren isn’t reacting as if he knew all along. No, he really does been aware.
I swallowed my saliva, suspiciously eyeing Amari from head to toe. However, no matter how I look I just couldn’t think that she isn’t Amari. Does that mean even her soul is different? But how did that happen?
I clutched my hands together. I asked them, “You mean, you’re not… Amari but a different entity?,” I frowned, tilting my head, “But how was it possible that your soul was different when you’re ….”
Amari merely smiled at me. “I hope this piece of information will be kept and must not be disclosed to other people. I will personally explain this to the emperor and I am solely revealing this for you to know how weighty the situation is.”
“… Who are you, then?”
I looked at Louis who asked that question. “I am Yula but please do call me Amari when we’re outside as to not make someone suspicious of anything.”
I nodded my head, still surprised of what was happening. This was just really shocking. I didn’t know it was possible!
“I am Yula while Zaren was husband, formerly known was Zhiven. We are from different world – I don’t know exactly which world but you can call us guests. I don’t intend to scare you or anything, it’s just to make sure you’re aware. Whereas, I died, no, my body died so my helper could only take out my soul to transfer me to another world alongside Zaren.”
This is really… like a book!
“Amari’s soul, who was deprived of grievances and hatred had been eaten by Dark Magic. When I knew of this, I was terrified but with the help of Zaren, I managed to calm down. Then as Dark Magic resurfaces, I assumed Amari’s soul might had been held captivated. Therefore, please help us – if you do, not only us or Amari, but also the people.”
“Is what you saying true?” Louis asked seriously.
Amari nodded her head. “I didn’t tell any lie.”
Zaren, who was quite for a while, voiced out. “I could see she’s telling the truth.”
“You… do you believe your wife, Duke?”
The Duke smiled, “With all my heart.”
“… Then tell me, who helped you two?”
Amari glanced at Zaren who nodded his head at her.
“My familiar.”
“Who is your familiar powerful enough to transfer you to another world?”
“The Almighty Dragon, Therrion.”
