Chapter 100 The ruler who did not rule the world
Chapter 100 The ruler who did not rule the world
Amara POV
Peace turns out to be far louder than war.
Not in the ways I expected.
War carries screaming and steel and blood soaking into stone.
Peace carries life.
Children laughing through castle corridors that once echoed with fear. Vampire merchants arguing playfully with wolf blacksmiths in crowded market squares. Fae musicians filling taverns with strange glowing instruments while witches pretend not to enjoy themselves in the corners.
The kingdoms breathe differently now. Like something ancient unclenched its fist around the world.
The borders vanished three months ago.
Not physically.
The mountains still stand.
The rivers still cut through territories.
But the walls between species are gone.
Travelers move freely now beneath unified law. Wolves venture into vampire cities without expecting violence. Fae caravans cross Lycan territory openly beneath moonlit skies. Witches have begun establishing sanctuaries near mixed villages where every species walks the same streets.
It is messy.
Complicated.
Beautiful.
There are still fights.
Of course there are.
Hatred older than kingdoms does not vanish quietly.
But now disputes are settled beneath one crown instead of ending in massacres.
Mine.
The thought still feels unreal sometimes.
Especially during the mating balls.
Gods.
The mating balls.
Apparently once people realized fate no longer cared about species, everyone collectively lost their minds.
The grand halls have remained flooded with nobles and warriors and hopeful hearts ever since. Wolves dancing with fae beneath chandeliers dripping crystal light. Vampires courting witches beside gardens glowing silver beneath moonlight.
And mates.
So many mates.
Every week another pair appears looking shell-shocked and emotional while entire kingdoms pretend not to stare.
Edgar has become unbearable.
The terrifying stoic guard now smiles at random intervals like a man permanently haunted by happy thoughts. Eribeth visits the castle almost weekly under increasingly ridiculous political excuses no one believes anymore. I don’t know why they don’t just stay together already, but he is to join her within the next week to live in her palace.
Yesterday she claimed she arrived to “inspect diplomatic vineyard agreements.”
There are no vineyards here.
Sebastian laughed for nearly ten minutes.
Now though..
Now the castle is quiet.
Finally.
Moonlight spills through the massive bedroom windows in pale silver rivers, softening the dark stone walls into something gentler than daylight ever allows.
The fire crackles low behind me.
Warm.
Steady.
I stand near the balcony doors wearing one of Sebastian’s black shirts, the fabric hanging loose against my thighs while cool mountain air curls across my skin.
Below us the kingdom glows.
Lanterns flicker through distant streets like scattered stars fallen gently onto earth.
For the first time in my life..
The world feels calm.
Strong arms slide around my waist from behind.
Heat immediately floods through me.
Sebastian presses slowly against my back, chin resting lightly on my shoulder while his scent wraps around me like smoke and cedar and safety.
“Thinking too loudly again,” he murmurs.
I smile faintly.
“You can hear that?”
“I can feel it.”
His hands spread slowly across my stomach beneath the oversized shirt, rough palms warm against bare skin.
Everything about him feels warm.
Grounding.
The sort of warmth capable of surviving winter.
“You built this,” he says quietly after a moment.
I shake my head immediately.
“We built this.”
His chest rumbles softly behind me.
“Still getting used to that, are you?”
Maybe I am.
Because queens are supposed to be fearless creatures carved from certainty and power.
Not girls who still wake some nights expecting the world to hate them again.
Sebastian turns me gently within his arms until I face him fully.
Moonlight catches against the gold in his eyes.
Beautiful man.
Terrifying man.
Mine.
His fingers brush softly along the side of my face, slower than usual tonight. He kisses along my neck.
“You’ve.. changed.. everything,” he says between each kiss.
Emotion tightens unexpectedly in my chest.
A few months ago I stood terrified inside this castle believing Sebastian might become the very thing that destroyed me.
Now he looks at me like I hung the moon above his kingdom with my own hands.
“You’re staring,” I whisper.
“You’re beautiful.”
The words still undo me.
Every single time.
His forehead lowers against mine.
The bond between us hums warmly beneath my skin, steady as a second heartbeat.
I slide my hands upward beneath his shirt slowly, feeling hard muscle tense beneath my fingertips. Scars map across his skin beneath the warmth of firelight, each one carrying pieces of battles and survival and the brutal life he lived long before me.
He exhales softly when I touch him.
Not weak.
Never weak.
Just honest.
My king has always sounded most human when he lets himself feel.
Sebastian’s mouth brushes mine gently at first.
A kiss without urgency.
Without war inside it.
Slow enough that I can feel the smile forming against his lips when I lean closer.
Then his hands tighten around my waist and the kiss deepens.
Heat curls low in my stomach instantly.
Familiar.
Dangerous.
Wonderful.
He backs me toward the bed carefully, never breaking the kiss while moonlight spills silver across dark sheets behind us.
The crown rests abandoned atop the nearby table now.
For once I am grateful for that.
No rulers.
No kingdoms.
Just him.
Just us.
Sebastian pulls back only far enough to look at me again, eyes darker now beneath the flickering firelight.
“You have any idea what you do to me?” he asks softly.
Probably.
But I like hearing him say it anyway.
I smile faintly. “Maybe.”
His laugh brushes warm against my mouth before he kisses me again.
Slower this time.
Deeper.
The kind of kiss that says more than words ever manage to.
Outside, the unified kingdom sleeps beneath peaceful skies.
Inside, Sebastian holds me like I am something sacred.
And maybe that is the strangest thing of all.
Because after everything…
After war and blood and fear and crowns…
I think he is sacred to me too.
My fingers slide through his dark hair as he spreads my legs, pressing his cck against my opening..
“I love you,” he says quietly.
No hesitation.
No fear.
Just truth.
The words hit me harder than any crown ever could.
For a second I can only stare at him.
Then I smile.
“I love you too.”
He pushed himself inside me causing my back to arch.
“Goddess..” I moan. He feels so amazing inside me. Stretching me to my limits.
He thrusts slowly at first, then a little faster.
His hand finds my face, my jaw, grabbing it ever so gently and kissing me.
“You feel amazing, my love.” He moans, his deep voice causing me nearly combust.
His thrusts grow faster, I wrap my legs around his and flip us. Now I’m on top, moving my hips and grinding into him, feeling immense pleasure seep through my very being.
I lean down, licking his neck where my mark lays.
He growls, grabbing my hips and moving me faster until I feel the need to cm force its way upward.
“Sebastian!” I cry, my orgsm ripping through me. A few moments more as I ride it out, he groans and stills, filling me with his seed.
Soon I will give him an heir.
I can feel it already.
“You’re so beautiful. I’m proud you’re my mate.” He says, pulling me against him.
I giggle ever so slightly. “Even if I’m a weird cross species creature?” I ask.
“Most definitely, Amara. You’ve brought more peace than anyone I’ve ever met. You are quite the being.” He says, kissing my forehead.
•••••••••••••••••••••
And so it ended, not with silence, but with something far rarer in the histories of kingdoms.
Peace that actually survived its own birth.
The lands did not become perfect, because perfection is a story told by those who have never lived through the weight of difference. There were disagreements still, storms of opinion, old instincts that sometimes rose like ghosts beneath the skin of every species. Yet for the first time in recorded memory, conflict no longer meant extinction. It meant conversation. It meant compromise. It meant choosing tomorrow over tradition.
Across the unified realms, borders ceased to feel like wounds in the earth. Wolves ran patrols alongside fae sentries beneath the same sky. Vampires governed cities that welcomed witches into their council halls without fear or ceremony. Markets once divided by bloodline now rang with laughter that belonged to no single people, but to all of them at once.
Love, once considered a fragile accident, became something else entirely. A constant. A force no longer whispered about in secrecy, but spoken of openly beneath lanternlight and moonrise. Not every bond was romantic, not every heart found its match, but fear no longer dictated who was allowed to try.
And still, despite all the blending of lives and destinies, the world did not fracture into something unrecognizable. There were no scattered lineages of hybrid heirs claiming divided thrones. There was only one exception to the old rules of blood and separation.
One crown.
One sovereign.
One name that history would not be able to dilute into myth or metaphor.
Amara.
The queen who should not have existed by any law written before her. The girl born of fractured bloodlines and buried expectations. The “impossible thing” who walked into a throne room meant to judge her and instead rewrote the meaning of authority itself.
She did not conquer the kingdoms.
She did not erase their identities.
She held them together long enough for them to learn they were never meant to be enemies at all.
And so the world remembered her not as a weapon of fate, nor as a prophecy fulfilled in fire and fear, but as something far quieter and far more enduring.
A beginning.
Queen Amara, the one who came from nothing and carried everything.
The ruler who did not end the world..
but finally taught it how to live within itself.
