Lucas's point of view
Everything happened so fast I barely understand what the fuck just happened. My mind was refusing to believe that I was pacing outside the operating ward and Sophie was battling for her life. She's fucking fighting for her life in there, and it might be because of me. I might be the reason why she might not come out of there alive.
And I was more than sure that Liam was the one who shot her. How dare he fucking shoot her? Death is the only punishment I deserve. I'm going to make sure he gets what he deserves.
The sound of my phone ringing brought me out of my thoughts.
I slipped my hand in my pocket and yanked it out. Mark’s number flashed on the screen; he was the head of the guard assigned to take care of my mom at the hospital.
My brows furrowed as I slid my thumb across the green button and brought my hand to my ears, pressing the phone there.
“Tell me, Mark!”
“Liam was here, sir… He—”
I balled my hand into a fist, my heart banging against my chest. He's what? Tell me what the fuck had happened?”
Mark exhaled deeply. “He shot her, and then he shot himself…”
I froze to the ground as Mark’s words rang in my ears repeatedly. This has to be a fucking joke. My mother can't fucking die; she can't be dead.
“That's not all, sir… He set the villa on fire, with everyone inside. Unfortunately no one survived…”
I froze to the ground. This has to be a fucking dream. I knew Liam was a coward, but I never fucking expected him to be such a coward. He could have killed everyone else; I didn't give a fuck, but my mom? What was the reason for killing my mom… If he wanted to kill someone, then it should be me, not my mom.
I swallowed hard, blinking back the tears that threatened to burst out of my eyes. I somehow had hopes that my mom was going to recover and be well again, but he shattered all my dreams. On top of that, he decided to kill himself to avoid my wrath… How dare he?
“Sir, are you there?”
The sound of Mark’s voice brought me back to the harshest reality of my life.
I cleared my throat, trying hard to keep my emotions under control. “I will be there,” I said and hung up the call.

The sound of my footsteps echoed as I marched into the hospital. A month of Sophie in a coma felt like a nightmare I couldn't bear.
Not to mention the death of my mom, I couldn't describe how I felt about it. And my rage over Liam’s death was too much to bear. He wasn't supposed to die; I was supposed to make him suffer for killing my mom, but he chose an easy way out.
I sucked in a sharp breath as I reached the ward where Sophie was. Feeling ready, I pushed the door open and stepped inside.
My heart raced as my eyes locked with Sophie's. She was seated on the small bed, her back rested against the walls with a pillow in between, and she wore a white hospital gown.
Her lips were dry, her face pale, and she looked thin.
Her eyes twinkled as they locked with mine. She cleared her throat. “Lucas!”
I smiled as I strode towards her; at least she remembered me. After being in a coma for such a long time, I was somehow scared that she'd forget me.
I settled at the edge of the bed, and I moved my hand to her cheeks, stroking them gently. “Are you alright?” My voice was softer than ever, my eyes locking intensely into hers.
“I'm alright now that I've seen you...” A smile spread across her lips.
“You don't know how much you've scared me, Sophie. I thought I was going to lose you.”
For a second I thought I was going to lose her too, just like I did with my mom. I've been holding my breath for too long, and now that she is alright, it feels like I'm breathing after a long time.
“But you wanted nothing to do with me.” Sophie moved her gaze away from mine, now staring at her hands.
“To heck with my anger. I want everything to do with you, Sophie. I want to spend the rest of my life with you…”
I'm not going to lose the only woman I loved because I was angry about things that happened in the past.
Sophie lifted her gaze and stared at me openly. “Do you mean that?” She asked, her voice laced with uncertainty.
“Sophie Martin, will you marry me?” I asked, even though it was too soon. I didn't want to spend another second without her.
“No…” Sophie said, averting her gaze from mine again.
My eyes widened. “No!”
“What if you leave me at the altar again? I'm definitely not taking chances with my self-respect…” Sophie said, her lips pouting like a little girl.
I chuckled. “I won't ever leave you again, Sophie. I had all the time to think about you and our future. I want to spend the rest of my life with you…”
She had always been mine, but now I want to make it official.
“I'm not dreaming, right?”
I moved closer to her and placed a kiss on her lips. “You are not dreaming, sweetheart. I really want to get married to you.” I whispered against her lips.
“What if you change your mind?”
“Of course I won't, but if I do. I'm giving you permission to punish me however you want.”
“Are you sure you won't get bored of me and leave me behind again?”
“I promise with my life. I will not leave you no matter what happens.”
Without a warning, Sophie moved her lips away from mine and wrapped her arms around me tightly.
“I never thought a day would come when I'd say this, but I really love you, Lucas. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“I love you more, Sophie, and I will always love you. Don't ever scare me like that.”
Sophie let out a chuckle… “I will never scare you again…”
I chuckled, pulling her even closer to me, also making sure I didn't hurt her.
Since that day, Sophie and I got married and moved to another city. She was so upset when I told her about Liam. But we left the past behind and moved on with our lives, far away from any drama.
