Chapter 139 The power of blade of heaven.
Chapter 139 The power of blade of heaven.
Daniel’s POV.
The battle between me and Lance, the leader of the Knights of the Cross, raged on. The explosions intensified, and I unleashed a barrage of powerful attacks to keep him at bay.
"Yahh!"
I tried to keep up using the Dark Lord Sword, but I realized quickly that he was a master swordsman. I couldn't follow his movements, and before I knew it, he had severed my arm.
"Ahh!"
I immediately used sand to push him back and create distance. My body's magic barrier hadn't even been able to deflect his blade. Fear surged through me as I watched my severed arm disintegrate into nothingness.
Slowly, the sand around me began to crawl back toward my body. If I hadn't been using Absolute Defense, he would have killed me a long time ago.
Even though the Dark Lord Sword could cut through anything, he had a massive advantage because he was a true warrior, whereas I was merely relying on magic spells to win.
"I cannot fight him using just a sword."
In an instant, my severed arm turned into sand and flowed back toward my shoulder, swirling and fusing until my flesh and skin were restored. The pain wasn't just physical—it was mental. The exhaustion caused by regenerating myself felt like it was draining my very mana.
Lance remained unfazed by my regeneration. He simply stood there, staring at me while gripping the Heaven Sword, its blade emitting a brilliant, glowing light.
"Your sand isn't enough to bridge the gap between our abilities, Dark Lord," Lance said coldly. "Your power is useless against my Heaven Sword."
"Don't get arrogant. The fight isn't over yet!" I shouted.
I waved my hands, and a magic circle appeared on the ground. A colossal Water Dragon erupted from it and lunged at him. Simultaneously, I rained down dozens of fireballs to amplify the attack.
"Fireball!"
I expected Lance to struggle against such a massive onslaught, but with a swift motion—dancing like the wind—he dismissed it all.
Slash! Slash!
He moved so fast that I barely registered him shredding the fireballs. Lance then sliced through the Water Dragon as if it were paper.
"Impossible. This isn't even funny anymore."
The water scattered not because of the dragon's own force, but because of the sheer power behind his blade’s edge. As he continued to destroy the fireballs before they could even get close, he cleaved through the flames as if they were fragile, physical objects.
A wave of fear washed over me, so I decided to take the opportunity while he was busy destroying the fireballs to strike. I conjured another magic circle, and Sand Spears, as hard as steel, materialized.
"Sand Spear!"
They shot toward Lance, but he noticed them instantly. He used the Heaven Sword to draw an arc of light.
"Heaven’s Slash!"
With the release of that light, all my Sand Spears were sliced down the middle, turning into nothing more than dust that hit his aura and dissipated.
"His strength is extraordinary."
He looked at me and smiled. Then, releasing a massive burst of energy, he charged. I knew I had to stop him, so I used the sand to create a shield, but he sliced through it effortlessly.
"What? He shattered my sand defense, too?"
I hadn't expected him to close the distance so quickly, so I immediately activated a Level 5 Magic Barrier for protection.
"That was too close."
The barrier managed to deflect his sword, but after barely five seconds, I noticed it cracking. A moment later, it shattered completely.
"This can't be happening. He even broke my barrier."
With the barrier destroyed, he landed a punch and a kick to my stomach, sending me flying backward.
I hit the ground hard, gasping in agony. The force of his attack had bypassed my defenses, forcing me to spit up blood. I scrambled to my feet, trembling with a mix of fear and desperation.
"Will you continue to rely solely on your power? You know nothing but throwing magic spells around," he challenged, standing there without a trace of fatigue.
I felt insulted by his words. Knowing I couldn't show him any weakness, I charged again, drawing the Dark Lord Sword to clash with him once more.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Every clash of our swords created shockwaves that shook the surroundings, shattering the rocks and trees nearby. But with every impact, I felt the weight of his power—it wasn't just his swordsmanship; his internal energy was poured into every strike.
His movements were smooth, clean, and powerful, while I was left panting, exhausted, and bruised.
"This isn't looking good. He’s completely in control of the fight."
I knew the gap in our combat experience was too wide; he was basically toying with me.
A few moments later, during the exchange, he landed a kick to my jaw that sent me crashing into a massive boulder.
"Is that all you've got? Is that all you can show me, Dark Lord?" Lance sneered.
I saw the arrogance in his eyes. I knew he was looking down on me after failing to counter his attacks. I spat out more blood, my vision blurring slightly. I forced myself to stand again. My sand felt heavy; my concentration was fading due to the excessive use of magic.
Because of that i cast a healing spell to mend my injuries.
"Oh? So you're also capable of casting high-level healing magic," Lance remarked.
"Our fight isn't over yet!" I screamed, releasing a vast magic circle that summoned a colossal sandstorm.
The storm engulfed the entire area, giving me the chance to escape and put some distance between us. Lance didn't look worried at all. Instead, he ran straight into the heart of my storm.
He moved like lightning through the fierce winds, his Heaven Sword becoming a brilliant streak of light within the darkness. He darted around, and in moments, he spotted the magic circle I had created. Without hesitation, he sliced it.
The wind began to die down, and with a second swing of his sword, he dissipated the sandstorm, clearing the area of all dust.
I was shocked, frozen in place. I hadn't realized he was already attacking me.
"He even nullified my sandstorm, ' I thought.
In an instant, he appeared right in front of me, his Heaven Sword pressed against my throat. The edge of the blade nicked my skin, drawing a single drop of blood.
"This fight is over, Dark Lord," Lance said quietly, his face filled with pity—a feeling that stung worse than any insult.
I tried to gather my sand to form a defense or launch a counter-attack, but I was overcome with fear and doubt. My hands shook with hesitation.
"I can't beat him. He’s just too strong."
Before I could move, he quickly disarmed me by kicking the Dark Lord Sword out of my hand. It flew several meters away and buried itself in the ground.
After that he kicked me again, pinning me to the floor with his boot pressed against my chest.
"What will you do now? Will you surrender and accept your death?" Lance asked.
I knew he was immensely strong, but I couldn't just lie here. His words suddenly reminded me of Lea and the others.
"That’s right. If I give up and die, my companions will be in grave danger."
I had to be strong for them and fight until the very end. I was furious at myself, filled with frustration.
"It can't end like this."
Sand exploded around me, wrapping around my body. I crumbled and merged with the sand to escape his hold. Using the sand, I managed to distance myself and reform my body in another part of the clearing.
Using Absolute Defense drained my energy rapidly, and my body was reaching its limit.
Fortunately, the Dark Lord System was able to replenish my lost energy, and I used a healing spell to close the wound on my neck.
"I never expected it would come to this. Ordinary attacks aren't enough against him."
Popo spoke to me through our mental link to calm me down. "Daniel, stay calm. I know you were overwhelmed by his strength and are feeling afraid."
He reminded me that it was normal for an opponent to be superior in combat, but that didn't mean I would lose, especially since I still possessed the Dark Lord System. He mentioned that as long as I had Dark Lord Points, I still had a chance to win.
"That's right. There is still hope."
I realized I wasn't an expert warrior, so I shouldn't try to out-sword him. My magic spells were far more powerful; those were my true path to victory.
"Fine. I admit it—you're better with a sword," I said.
"Hmm... So, are you giving up?" Lance asked.
"Huh? Of course not. I admit you're strong, but I have other tricks up my sleeve." I said, manifesting a magic circle.
Water surged from the circle, gradually forming a massive Water Spirit. "Poseidon's Wrath!"
With all its strength, the Water Spirit hurled its trident. The pressure of the water was so intense that it shattered everything in its path. Even so, Lance didn't look afraid. He prepared his strike.
"Useless."
With one swing of his Heaven Sword, he sliced the spirit's trident in two before it could hit him, leaving a massive crater in the ground where it landed. I was stunned. I had never seen anyone stop the Water Spirit's attack before.
"Impossible. This isn't fair."
The Water Spirit began forming another trident for a second attack, but Lance leaped forward, charging straight at it. He didn't give it a chance to react. He moved so fast the spirit couldn't defend itself, and he sliced it into four pieces.
The watery body collapsed and dissolved into the air. I was shocked to see it didn't reform; it had simply vanished. "What’s happening? Why did the Water Spirit disappear entirely?"
"I forgot to mention," Lance said, "the Heaven Sword has anti-magic properties. Its blade can destroy any type of magic spell."
