Chapter 27

Jamie POV

We sit in the tiny room, waiting for the doctor to come in. I sit in between Liam and Andrea. The three of us are silent while we wait. I am so afraid of what they are going to say.

The doctor comes in, accompanied by a nurse. He looks at Andrea. “This is nurse Rhaina; she will take you to see your husband now,” the doctor says to Andrea.

Andrea is ushered out of the room to see Trey. “Can I see Crystal now?” I ask him.

“Crystal is stable, she will be fine, but there is something you need to know before you back in to see her,” the doctor says.

Liam and I both brace ourselves. What the hell is wrong that he has to tell me before I go in to see her? “We did extensive blood work on Crystal, and I just got her lab results back. I went in to tell her. She wanted me to tell you before you come in the room with her, which I usually do not do, but she wanted you to know, and she is weak. She is in and out sleeping. She will probably sleep a lot over the next few days,” the doctor says.

“What did you find in her blood work?” I ask.

“Crystal is pregnant, I would say about two weeks, from when she says her last period was, but we would need to do an ultrasound to be sure,” the doctor says.

“She is pregnant?” I ask.

“Yes, she is pregnant. I will take both of you to see her now,” the doctor says.

I get up to follow the doctor to Crystal’s room. I go into the room. She is hooked up to a lot of machines. She looks pale. I touch the hand her IV is in softly and lean down to kiss her forehead.

Crystal opens her eyes and closes them back. She fights to open her eyes again. “Just rest,” I say to her.

Liam is standing close by. “Liam is here with me,” I say to her. She nods her head. She begins to whisper something. I lean down to her. “Did he tell you?” Crystal says. Her voice cracks.

“Yes, he told me,” I say to her.

“Are you mad?” Crystal asks me.

I squeeze her hand. “No, I am not mad; I love you. Why would I bet mad?” I ask her.

“Because you told me you did not want any children,” Crystal says.

“That was before I met you,” I say to her.

Crystal smiles and drifts back to sleep. Liam takes me by the arm and pulls me away from the bed. “Listen to me; you had better take care of Helen before she gets out of the hospital. She cannot be in danger. Crystal and that baby need to be protected, got it,” Liam says to me.

“Will you stay with her while I make some calls?” I ask Liam.

“Yes, go handle your business,” Liam says.

I lean down and kiss Crystal. “I will be back soon; Liam is here with you,” I say to her.

She is sleeping again. “If anything changes, you call me immediately,” I say to Liam.

“I won’t leave her side,” Liam says.

I leave the room. I go to check on Andrea and Trey before I go outside to make some calls. I step into the room. Andrea is sitting with Trey. Trey is sitting up in the bed.

“I think I have decided that we will no longer be holding any kind of events for our clients,” I say to Trey.

“That is fine with me; the last two have been a disaster,” Trey says.

“How’s Crystal?” Andrea asks me.

“She is good. She is sleeping, and she is pregnant,” I say.

“No way,” Andrea says.

“Yes, about two weeks. They did blood work on her and found out. We will not know anything for sure until she gets out of the hospital and can see her doctor, but yeah, she is pregnant,” I say.

“Congratulations, why aren’t you with her?” Andrea asks.

“I need to make sure Helen never bothers us again,” I say.

“What are you going to do?” Andrea asks.

“For starters, I am going to make sure she cannot get out of jail,” I say.

“Has she been arrested?” Andrea asks.

“She better have been, we left before the police got there, so I do not know. I am going to go outside and make some calls,” I say.

“My brother works at the police department. Do you want me to call him,” Andrea asks?

“No, it is fine; I will call,” I say.

I go outside and call the police department to make sure she is in jail. I wait on hold forever until a detective finally comes to the phone.

“Mr. King, this is detective Rice; I understand you are inquiring about Helen King,” he says.

“Yes, I am. She shot my finance and my office manager at my home. I want to know if she will be able to make bail or not?” I ask.

“No, sir, she will have to see the judge, and that might take some time. I will need a formal statement from everyone involved,” detective Rice says.

“Everyone involved is in the hospital, so you can come whenever you like, but Crystal is fragile. I do not want her upset. Trey is up and talking, so you should be able to get a statement from him,” I say.

“I will be by later this afternoon,” detective Rice says.

I hang up the phone. I want to get back to Crystal. I go back inside the hospital and down the hall to Crystal’s room. Liam is sitting with her. She does not deserve any of this. I will make this right. If I have to kill Helen myself to make sure she never bothers us again.

I go into the room. Liam gets up to let me sit down in the chair beside Crystal.

“Did you find out anything?” Liam asks.

“She cannot make bail. The detective will be by to talk to Crystal and Trey later today,” I say.

Liam sits on a chair at the foot of Crystal’s bed. I hold her hand as she sleeps.
