Chapter 414: He can't get over it

“Wait!” Ian ordered.

Baron interrupted his intention to leave.

“How is she?”

“Thalia?”

Ian looked away.

“Ian, like you, she will never get over the death of her son. While she was adjusting to her new home, far from well, she kept repeating meaningless things. She talked a lot about the lack of light. She claimed that she was living in a dark place, even when all the lights were on. She would never recover without... him.” Baron said.

“This is all your fault!” Ian said angrily.

“No. You know whose fault it is. And I hope you never reveal our secret, Ian. I've fulfilled your every wish, but there are ways I can make your wishes become your nightmares.” Baron threatened and walked away.

...

Five minutes after Baron left, Anna entered the dining room, which Ian was also using for studies, with her hands full, with David and Donald's children on either side of her.

Ian looked at the children behind him and they knew that everything was all right and joining the two smallest members of the Lens family, rushed off to the playroom. He took the opportunity to start gathering up the notebooks with the children's lessons.

“Is everything all right here, Ian?” Anna asked hesitantly.

“I don't think so much as in your love nest.” He said in his icy voice.

“It's been seven years, Ian. How long are you going to mourn your father's death?”

Ian looked sharply at Anna.

“My father is Max. And I'm not moping.”

“You don't treat Ryan with as much hostility as you do me!”

“It wasn't Ryan who betrayed my Alpha.” Ian said and took the notebooks to a room with many steel cabinets and began to put the objects away, making sure that each one was in its proper place. Anna followed him.

“I didn't cheat on your father either! I stayed with...”

“Yes, you did! If you had allowed him to feel that he could trust you not to abandon him again and again and again, he wouldn't have fallen in love with Thalia, she probably wouldn't even exist, if you hadn't interrupted his wedding to Naya and now I could be talking to him!” Ian shouted angrily.

“Ian your father is dead!”

Ian looked at her incredulously and shook his head impatiently.

“I know you think you're seeing a strange world through his eyes, but Ian! Let's face it! That's impossible! You yourself heard his bones breaking and...”

“We heard Ryan's bones breaking too and he's not here? Enjoying the pleasures you can offer him when he gets between your legs?”

Anna approached in an impulse and slapped Ian's face.

“Don't talk to me like that again! I'm your mother!”

“I dismiss your motherly love. Go back to Ryan's cell and spare me your unwanted visits...” He interrupted himself and suddenly looked puzzled at Anna. “Why are you with David and Donald's children?”

“Your brothers went out with Ryan.”

“Idiots!”

“They won't accept being locked up here.”

“And they think anyone likes this situation?”

Anna touched Ian's bearded face.

“None of us have come to terms with Tayme and Thalia's fate and each of us does what we can to forget our own weakness.”

“Ryan doesn't look like he's spent all these years unhappy.” Ian said sarcastically, but also to try and warn Anna that something wasn't right, but like every other time, she just justified her lover's actions.

“I think he thinks that if he shows his true feelings about these losses, I'll consider him weak.”

Ian gently removed his mother's hand from his face.

“He came here.”

“The thing that took Tayme?”

“Yes.”

“What did he say?”

“Something about keeping his word. Something about a city... But I don't think it's true. It could be a trap...”

Anna was pensive as Ian talked about his conversation with Baron, omitting what he knew about Thalia.

“He doesn't lie!” Her face was suddenly illuminated by the clarity in her mind. “Ian! Whatever this creature is, every time he has appeared before us, he has revealed things to us. Some of those things served to keep everyone safe and if we analyze everything he's said so far, it was the truth!”

“Do you think we should go up to the surface? That we'll be safe, because he said we would?”

“Yes! He's never lied before!”

Ian shook his head in doubt.

“The children need this, Ian. Think about it before you make your decision.”

Ian took a deep breath.

“Ask everyone to come and meet me in the entrance room of the cave. I'm not going to make a decision alone that affects everyone's life.”

Anna looked proudly at Ian.

“I'll let the children spend the night here. Is that all right with you?”

Ian nodded affirmatively.
