Chapter 412: The Final Choice
Chapter 412: The Final Choice
Thalia looked at Firecold standing in front of her, unable to hide her disgust.
“You killed my son and gave me nothing in return.”
“You're alive, aren't you?”
“I don't feel alive.”
“You're breathing. That's what matters.”
“Breathing isn't enough to live.”
“Just say what you want. I don't want to be bothered with these questions. It's Baron who likes to do that.”
“I don't want my decision to be final.”
“The decision to go with me, I can accept it being changed, if you have something that interests me to exchange.” The creature said and looked lustfully at Thalia's body. “However, you can never return to this place.”
“Why?”
“You don't need to know.”
“Is there anywhere else I might want to go, if I don't get used to living among you?”
“The cave, where you and your family were sheltered.”
For some reason, Thalia didn't want to live there again.
“Is there nothing else?”
“No.”
Thalia met Adam's worried gaze and turned to Firecold resolutely.
“I'm staying here.”
Thalia could almost hear Adam's relieved breathing.
...
Nine months later...
Adam was sitting on the steps of the small balcony, watching the birds play on the swing when he heard hesitant footsteps approaching.
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He didn't feel like arguing or playing word games with her.
“Can I sit next to you?”
“I don't think I can stop you, right?”
Thalia sat down next to him.
“I know that in all these months, I've made your life a living hell, Adam.”
“What an understatement!”
“Oh, don't be like that.” Thalia said with a smile. “You shouldn't have manipulated me into agreeing to come here, but... I think Ian must have moved on with his life, found another partner and I...”
“Don't keep saying that, Thalia.” Adam said and stood up, looking at her coldly. “What if he's alone?”
“Do you think he'll wait for me? It's been many months!”
“So your decision is based on Ian's decisions? No, Thalia. I don't want you like this. I want you to choose to stay with me because you love me, not because you have no other choice.”
Thalia stood up too.
“You know I've always loved you, Adam.”
“You loved the Alpha. I'm not anymore...”
“Don't be silly! No one, not even you, can ever take away from you what was born inside you. Being Alpha is not like being born with a primogeniture that can be passed on to someone else. Being Alpha is like... Having an extra organ in your body. An organ that can't be separated from you without your life ending too. Like a heart.”
“Do you still feel Luna's attraction to an Alpha for me?”
“Yes.”
“Why haven't you told me this all these months? You've dedicated your life to insulting me!”
“You deserved it.”
Adam reached up and grabbed her shoulders violently, and the closeness made his eyes involuntarily lock onto her stubborn lips.
“You've done everything to make me hate you...” His voice was hoarse. “And all I feel when the tiniest part of me touches you is... Desire.”
“That's your hell, Adam. But it's mine too. I still think about Ian and also about Anna. I love her. She's important and...”
Adam let go of Thalia.
“If you'd been saying nicer things to me all these months, you'd know that until a few weeks ago, Anna and Ryan...”
“No!” Thalia said in surprise.
“He needed to hold her in his arms and... I think she needed to experience that love too.”
Thalia glared at Adam.
“I feel disgusted by this family. Is there no one decent? Does Tayme already know that?”
“She still doesn't know that Ryan is coming back to the Cave.”
“She'll kill Anna when she finds out.”
“Ryan will never let her find out and somewhere in the future I know they're not together anymore. Anna will put an end to her relationship with my cousin and he'll feel relieved.”
“And Anna? How is she?”
“I don't know. Ryan was probably the last Lens for her.”
“You're not going back to her?”
“No, Thalia. I'm not going back to her.” Adam said tiredly and went into the house.
Thalia went after Adam.
“I don't want to keep fighting with you, but I can't give myself to you without first knowing that Ian will be fine.”
Adam was thoughtful.
“What would you consider that would make Ian well with your decision?”
“A new love, for example.”
Adam looked around, then turned to Thalia and spoke in whispers.
“Do you know about the meeting the Lens attended with the Blue Moon?”
“Yes. I've heard fragments of conversations between the Lunas of the Past, but I don't know anything concrete.”
“I'll tell you about what happened at the last meeting. Ian knows about it, Thalia, and just like you, his fear of making you suffer is the same fear that covers you. But your destiny has always been... to split up.”
Thalia sat down at the table and Adam sat down next to her.
“Tell me, Adam. I need to know.” She said, realizing that this was the answer she had been looking for ever since her son died.
“A gentle, crystalline, feminine voice, who introduced herself as the Blue Moon herself, spoke to the ten Lensmen present at the last meeting, her words were exactly these: 'You will live through difficult days. There will be no more Blue Moon in the sky for forty years, until all the werewolves are taken away and replaced by humans, your magic will be extinguished along with the power of all the moons, but I will be here. Weak, but attentive to the slightest sign that Ian is ready to receive me. I have become human and will live among the remnants of the world disaster and when I realize that the line that ties Ian to his past has broken, I will emerge and with the consummation of our love, once again I will shine in the sky little by little.”
